Chapter 798, Easy Money in a Small Town

"Let your Aunt Glenda come up with one, she's the cultured one."

Glenda shot him a glare.

Wu Heng stepped into the study, reabsorbing the three ghosts into his body, then opened the realm gate and walked in.

...…

When he stepped out of the gate, he was back in the same dorm room he left from.

He stood by the window and glanced outside, then used the walkie-talkie to call over Li Yanhong.

Before long, the door was knocked.

Li Yanhong entered with her owl in tow.

"How have things been these past few days?" Wu Heng asked with a smile.

Li Yanhong sat down on a chair nearby and replied, "Nothing major. The pharmaceutical plant is in full production, and the arms factory has also tightened up on management."

Wu Heng nodded. "And the prison? Any issues there?"

"I took a trip there. Nothing seemed off from the outside. I didn't go inside the cells, and I couldn't understand what the skeletons had written, but everything seemed fine," she continued.

The prison was run entirely by skeletons.

There was no need for human supervision.

Wu Heng himself only went there to check logs or see if the skeletons needed anything.

Li Yanhong, understandably, couldn't make sense of their operations even if she went.

"Any news from Qi Hancai?"

"The Korean base has started relocating," said Li Yanhong. "Qi Hancai said they've demolished the shanty areas and moved everyone to the city center. Pretty similar to what we did here."

"Good. Tell her to intensify training for the skeletons, especially on satellite ops. See if they can launch another one. Also, if Zhao Yanqiu doesn't have anything going on, have her come back. Xiaoxiao just said she misses her."

"Okay, I'll call her in a bit," Li Yanhong agreed, then glanced at her notepad. "Oh, and the central station agreed to lend us some talisman books. They'll bring them over during the next trade exchange."

They'd been asking about talismans for quite a while.

Probably didn't make much progress, hence why they were willing to lend them now.

"No rush. If they're willing, great. If not, no need to push."

Li Yanhong nodded. "That's about it. Everything's running smoothly."

Wu Heng stood up. "Alright, take me around the base."

"Sure." Li Yanhong stood as well, and the two exited the room together.

They strolled around the base.

As dusk neared, everyone headed to the cafeteria.

Wu Heng returned to his room and used the realm gate to go back to Rentam City.

...…

He came down from upstairs.

The skeletons had already laid out dinner on the table.

Wen Mansa smiled. "Master, perfect timing. Dinner's ready."

Wu Heng took a seat at the table. Wen Mansa and Slater each took their own chairs.

They ate a little.

Then Wen Mansa said, "We've arrested all the informants the corpse mentioned. They're being interrogated."

"They probably don't know much. Just get the basics," Wu Heng replied.

Wen Mansa sipped some water. "Does Master have any plans next?"

"No major moves in the city. Wait for that level-18 Professional to arrive, then we'll act."

Slater thought a moment. "With the messenger and the other spies cleaned out, this Professional might notice things right away. We should be prepared."

"It's fine. As long as he enters the city, I'll spot him first," Wu Heng reassured them.

Slater nodded. If he said that, he must have a way.

Wu Heng put down his utensils. "Wen Mansa, are Ghost Train tickets common in Rentam City?"

Wen Mansa looked over. "Not really, but they do pop up occasionally."

"How do people get them?" Wu Heng asked.

That prince's messenger had one in his ring. The intel also said the level-18 Professional would be arriving via such a ticket.

If the prince himself had one, they'd need to guard against his escape.

If he used a ticket in front of Wu Heng, he could use the [Conductor's Hat] to board too. But if the guy fled beforehand...

That'd make things a lot harder.

Wen Mansa pondered a bit. "Not sure, but there must be some method or channel to obtain them. Doesn't Master know how?"

Slater, sitting beside her, turned her gaze to Wu Heng.

Clearly, Wen Mansa knew more, and as a Blackstone Town Steward, Slater was a bit behind on intel.

Wu Heng shook his head. "No idea about the tickets, but I have a hunch the prince or those Secret Cult people might know something."

"Possibly," Wen Mansa agreed.

"If we're clueless for now, so be it. The answer might show up later," said Wu Heng.

Wen Mansa looked at Slater. "Steward Slater, since Master is here today, shall we all spend the night together?"

Slater blushed instantly but kept her poise. "I'm still staying in the next room."

"No big deal. We all know the deal," Wen Mansa smiled at Wu Heng.

"Rest well, and keep it down tonight," Slater said, rising and heading to her room upstairs.

Wu Heng said, "Don't tease Slater. She's a steward, not into that kind of joke."

Wen Mansa giggled. "Master, you looked a little expectant just now."

"I did not."

Wen Mansa smiled and stood. "Come on, let's feed the baby and then get to bed."

They entered the nursery and played with the baby for a while.

Then returned to their room to rest.

...…

Creak~!

Late at night, the dim room echoed with the door opening.

Slater, lying on her side, opened her eyes wide.

The golden leopard nearby lifted its head, glanced at the door, then curled back up.

Slater didn't move, just waited quietly.

Then someone climbed onto the bed, arms wrapping around her waist. "I came to keep you company."

"Not staying with your sweet little maid?" Slater murmured.

"She's asleep. I'm here for you," Wu Heng hugged her from behind.

Hmph.

Slater huffed and bumped her back into him.

"Sorry I didn't come see you before. Things were busy," he whispered by her ear.

Slater sighed softly and turned around. "Then why not at least write me a letter?"

"I wanted to, but last time you said not to, in case Yuli saw it."

"So now it's my fault?" Slater glared.

Their eyes met. His hands roamed over her.

Slater reached a foot down, nudged the golden leopard.

The leopard sighed and slipped out the door.

Then the two embraced.

...…

Two days later.

A train stopped in a distant forest.

A man in dark leather armor, with twin daggers at his sides, stepped off.

He glanced at the distant city, pulled up his hood, and started walking.

200 gold to kill a level-10-ish city lord.

Money sure is easy in these backwater places.
