For several minutes, nobody spoke.
John stood at the edge of the stone platform, watching the Hollow Wyrm sink farther into the darkness. Its golden eyes had closed, but he could still feel its presence beneath his feet. The creature hadn't been defeated, and the damaged chains around its body hadn't magically repaired themselves. Whatever had happened during the trial had only bought them time.
He wasn't sure how much.
John glanced at the messages still lingering in his vision.
**[Legacy Trial: Suspended.]**
**[Bearer connections: Unchanged.]**
**[Additional conditions: Unknown.]**
At least the Legacy hadn't forced him to sacrifice Serah's connection to it. That was a start.
"John?"
Lythriel's voice brought him out of his thoughts.
He turned. She was standing a few steps away, looking at him with a mixture of concern and curiosity.
"Are you hurt?"
"No."
She gave him a doubtful look.
"You're holding your chest."
