Lyra walked through the confusing corridor trying to find her way back to the living room. She knew she couldn't start work till the young master of the house was back. She was prompted to remain in her room but she realized she hadn't eaten anything the whole day. It was evening already so she wanted to find something to eat.
After a few minutes of walking in the corridor, she finally got to the stairs. Phew! She was relieved to have located the stairs. She quickly rushed down and suddenly paused when she got down. She just realized she didn't know the way to the kitchen. Infact, she didn't know anywhere around here. She bit her lips in frustration. Her stomach grumbled for the fifth time and she sighed. 'What do I do now? Where's the kitchen, I'm so hungry.' She muttered to herself. She was about to take a step when she sighted the elderly woman from earlier. She recalled the Madam introducing her as the chief cook. She definitely knows where the kitchen is. Lyra thought and walked quickly to catch up to Miss. Goergia. "Excuse me Ma'am?" She called out to Miss Goergia who turned after hearing her voice. On sighting her, the old lady smiled and walked towards her. "Yes dear. I was just about sending a maid to get you. You must be hungry. Come with me. " She said and Lyra sighed in relief.
She followed Miss Goergia who led her to the dinning. It was a large dinning room that could contain an extended family. This got Lyra wondering how many people lived there. "Sit down dear. I'll get your dinner." The old lady said. Huh? No. She couldn't possibly sit here. "Here? I can't do that. I'll just eat in the kitchen." Lyra hurriedly rejected the offer. Sit at the dinning of this noble family? With all the years she had worked for rich families , she knew not to do something like that, no matter how good they were, a maid like her had no right to sit on such a noble chair. Before Miss Goergia could say a word, Lyra walked out of the dinning forgetting the fact that she had no idea where the kitchen was. She stopped and turned around to look at the old lady who walked behind her. She waited patiently for her to get to where she stood. "You're such a stubborn girl. Aren't you?" Miss Goergia teased her and she grinned. "Come on, you must be starving." Lyra followed her without a word and when they got to the kitchen, Miss Goergia offered her a stool where she sat and waited for her food.
After a while, the food came and Lyra hurriedly ate the food like she hadn't eaten in days. Lyra had never eaten such food before but her hunger made her turn a blind eye to that fact. Also, the food was really delicious. Lyra couldn't tell if that was the case or it was because she was very hungry but in a few minutes, she had finished the food.
Realizing she wasn't alone and was being watched by people, blood flowed to her face adding some blush to her milky face. Miss Goergia chuckled at the sight of the girl. She felt guilty for not asking her earlier if she was hungry but seeing her eating with so much enthusiasm was a relief.
It seemed the girl had no idea why she was there. Miss Goergia had taken a liking to the stubborn yet humble girl. She wondered what the young master would think of her when he got back.
Lyra felt shy knowing she had eaten like an animal but she couldn't be blamed. She was hungry. She got up to help the other maids with the dishes. Lyra loved to work and sitting idol a whole day wasn't something she was used to. Even after Miss Goergia asked her not to, she insisted continuously.
An hour passed and Lyra was still in the kitchen chit chatting with the maids and helping them out with their chores. In no time, the girls had gotten acquainted to Lyra's presence. She was really nice and funny and they enjoyed her company. They couldn't wait for her to resume with them.
They had prepared dinner for the family and finished their chores in no time. They had some free time before the young master would be back. Lyra decided to retire to her room for a while. It was good that she made friends in no time, her job here wouldn't be boring.
Laying down on her bed and looking up at the ceiling, Lyra wondered how everyone at home was doing. Her Mom and Dad and her two little brothers. She missed home but she couldn't call because she didn't have a phone. She sighed. 'How depressing' she muttered to herself.
Taking her mind back to her surrounding, she sat up and looked around again. She still couldn't believe this was her room. She had placed her clothes in order inside the closet and had taken a bath earlier. The bathroom was nothing less, it was all glass in there and there was an automatic shower.
Earlier when she entered the bathroom, she couldn't find the shower or anything that looked like one. No shower? She thought. How was she going to take her bath now? "Where do I get water?" She asked herself and was completely startled when water gushed out of the side walls of the bathroom wetting her completely. She stared dumbfounded at the walls. She couldn't believe it. The moment she said water, she was all wet. So all she needed to do was say water and the water will sprout from the wall? Hmm, how interesting. She thought.
She chuckled at her ignorance after remembering that scene. Things were so different in this house or was this how it was in all of Los Angeles? she couldn't tell. She fell back on her soft bed and closed her eyes enjoying the comfort from the fluffy pillows. She soon fell asleep with no care in world. She had never felt this relaxed in her life, she wanted to relish it for as long as it lasted...
