The two of them knew very well that they were not used to be pointed at by others and would rather explore on their own.
A guide is fine.
But having their own paths being pointed at so clearly was clearly a big no.
On the other hand, Ruben was different from them because he was already used to have his life being arranged by others. Besides, he believed that their vision would be better than him who barely knew anything.
Considered that his own position later on was to support Samuel, Ruben didn't think that there was anything wrong with having his own path being guided by others.
