----

The morning sun bathed Kyoto Jujutsu High's training grounds in golden light.

Ryosuke stepped through the gates, his bag slung over his shoulder, a yawn escaping him.

"Two weeks away… feels like forever."

He had barely set foot on the gravel when—

"Ryosuke-kun!"

A familiar voice echoed across the field.

He turned his head.

Kasumi was running toward him, her face lit up with a bright smile, her blue ponytail swaying behind her.

"You're finally back!"

She stopped in front of him, hands on her knees as she caught her breath.

"How's your family? We were so worried when we heard about the accident…"

Ryosuke blinked, then smiled softly.

"Ah, that…"

He scratched the back of his head.

"Yeah, they're fine. Just a scare, nothing serious."

"Sorry for the lie, Miwa… but I can't exactly tell you I fought Gojo Satoru."

Kasumi let out a sigh of relief.

"Phew… that's good news!"

"So, you're back."

A sharper voice came from behind her.

Mai approached, arms crossed, her piercing gaze fixed on Ryosuke.

"You heard about the tournament?"

Ryosuke raised an eyebrow.

"Tournament?"

"Yeah."

Mai nodded.

"The interschool tournament. Kyoto versus Tokyo. It starts in two days."

Ryosuke frowned, then shrugged.

"Well, that's not our problem, right? We're second-years."

A metallic sound echoed nearby.

Mechamaru.

"Normally, yes,"

his synthetic voice replied, calm and slightly amused.

"But this year, there's only one third-year student. And just three in second-year."

He paused.

"So… they might add one or two second-years to fill the team."

Ryosuke blinked.

"Huh? Seriously?"

"Very seriously."

Kasumi nodded vigorously.

"Apparently, they're really short on people this year…"

"WELCOME BACK, RYOSUKE!"

A booming voice thundered across the field, followed by heavy footsteps.

A chill ran down Ryosuke's spine.

"Oh no…"

He turned slowly—

And there, like a human hurricane, Aoi Todo charged straight toward him, a brilliant grin on his face, arms wide open.

"My brooother! I missed you so much!"

His massive hand sliced through the air, aiming for Ryosuke's back—

one of his legendary brotherly slaps—

But—

Ryosuke sidestepped effortlessly.

Todo's hand hit nothing but air.

"Oh!"

Todo froze, then burst out laughing.

"Hahaha! Still as sharp as ever, my brother!"

He turned to him, completely ignoring Mai, Kasumi, and Mechamaru—as if they didn't exist.

"I hope your family's doing well!"

Ryosuke sighed, then smirked slightly.

"Yeah, thanks, Senpai. They're fine."

Todo nodded vigorously, his grin widening.

"Perfect! Because I need you, my brother!"

He placed a heavy hand on Ryosuke's shoulder.

"I want you to join us in the interschool tournament!"

Silence.

Ryosuke blinked.

"Huh?"

"The tournament!"

Todo squeezed his shoulder enthusiastically.

"We need you on the team! You're strong, fast, and most importantly—you're my brother!"

Ryosuke frowned.

"Wait… is that mandatory?"

"Of course!"

Todo nodded firmly.

"It counts toward school credits! If you don't join, you lose points for the year!"

Kasumi's eyes widened.

"But that's not tru—"

Mechamaru nudged her metallically, shaking his head slightly.

Kasumi froze, then shut her mouth and looked away.

Ryosuke was silent for a moment, scratching his head.

Then—

as if remembering something—

his expression changed.

A spark lit up in his eyes.

A faint smile formed on his lips.

"Ah…"

He looked up at Todo.

"The Tokyo second-years… they're competing too?"

Todo blinked, surprised by the question.

"Huh? Oh, yeah. Most likely."

He crossed his arms.

"They've got the same problem we do. So they'll probably send their second-years too."

Ryosuke's smile widened slightly.

"Perfect…"

He turned toward Mai, Kasumi, and Mechamaru.

Then back to Todo.

"Todo."

Todo straightened up.

"I'm in."

Todo's eyes lit up.

"Seriously?!"

"Yeah."

Ryosuke nodded.

"But… on one condition."

Todo tilted his head, intrigued.

"Which is?"

Ryosuke jerked his thumb toward his classmates behind him.

"I'll only join if my whole class comes too."

Mai raised an eyebrow.

Kasumi blinked in surprise.

Mechamaru… stayed Mechamaru.

Todo was silent for a beat—

Then burst into laughter.

"Hahahaha! Of course, my brother!"

He clapped Ryosuke on the back—

which Ryosuke dodged again.

Todo laughed even harder.

"The more, the merrier! Bring your whole class! It'll be even more fun!"

He waved as he started walking away.

"Alright then! See you all in two days for the tournament!"

His heavy footsteps echoed as he left, whistling cheerfully.

Once Todo was out of sight, Mechamaru turned to Ryosuke, crossing his metal arms.

"You're dragging us into things without asking now?"

Ryosuke shrugged, a smirk on his lips.

"What? Would you have said no?"

"That's not the point."

Mai stepped closer, glaring coldly.

"Why do you want us to come?"

Ryosuke met her gaze steadily.

Then—

He smiled.

"Because it's going to be interesting."

Kasumi, meanwhile, was practically bouncing with excitement.

"I think it's great!"

She turned to Mechamaru, grinning.

"It'll be amazing training, right? And we'll get to see how the Tokyo students fight!"

Mechamaru sighed—a synthetic sigh, but still a sigh.

"I suppose…"

Ryosuke crossed his arms, his smile fading slightly.

"Let's be clear, though."

He glanced at his three classmates.

"Right now… we're way below Tokyo's second-years."

Kasumi blinked.

"Huh?"

Mai frowned.

Ryosuke nodded.

"I've met them before."

"Well… in my past life, anyway."

He looked back at them, his expression hardening.

"So here's the plan."

He raised a finger.

"For the next two days… I'm going to bring you up to their level."

Kasumi paled slightly.

"U-up to their level?"

Ryosuke smiled—

a smile that was anything but reassuring.

"Yeah."

He folded his arms.

"Intense training. No breaks. No mercy."

Mechamaru sighed again.

"I was afraid you'd say that…"

Mai smirked slightly.

"Interesting."

Ryosuke nodded, walking toward the center of the training field.

"Alright. We start now."

Kasumi swallowed hard, glancing nervously at Mechamaru.

"I've got a bad feeling about this…"
