Chapter 607: Ambush, Subduing the Phoenixes
In the Beast Realm, within the Void Space, everything was silent. Chaotic spatial currents flowed quietly, concealing a deadly danger beneath.
Suddenly, a sharp sound of something cutting through the air broke the silence. From the dark distance, a mass of glowing figures appeared, revealing over twenty terrifying silhouettes.
Leading the group were three figures, and as the others gazed at them, their eyes were filled with respect and awe.
"This mission is extremely important. It will determine whether our Sky Demon Phoenix Clan can completely defeat the Ancient Void Dragon Clan. So, no one better make any mistakes. Otherwise, you'll face the full wrath of the clan rules!"
In the middle of the trio, a woman in a red dress spoke coldly, her voice icy and commanding. She appeared to be around thirty years old, but her aura was terrifyingly powerful. Her sharp, slender eyebrows were raised slightly, emitting a murderous intent that even caused the two elders beside her to instinctively move a step away.
"Understood, Supreme Elder!" everyone responded quickly, bowing in respect.
"Sister, today, the three great Dragon Islands are launching a major assault on Eastern Dragon Island. With our help, we should be able to crush it," said one of the elders in black robes standing beside the woman. He was Kunhuang, one of the Three Phoenixes of the Sky Demon Clan, who had previously clashed with Mo Yu at the Tianxuan Treasure Hall in the Leiyuan Mountains.
"No need to rush. Let them fight a bit more. The more casualties, the better," the woman in red said indifferently, her eyes flashing coldly.
"Hehe, who would have thought the three Dragon Islands would ask for our help? What a surprise!" Another elder, with a sinister face, let out a strange laugh. This was Yinghuang, another of the Three Phoenixes.
"Once we eliminate Eastern Dragon Island and gain the Dragon Phoenix bloodline, the three Dragon Islands will also be wiped out by our Sky Demon Phoenix Clan," the woman in red sneered. Just as she was about to accelerate, a sudden sense of danger welled up in her heart.
Before she could react, powerful streams of Dou Qi erupted from the chaotic spatial currents below, surging like sharp blades. These deadly attacks shot directly into the ranks of the Sky Demon Phoenix Clan, and screams of agony immediately filled the air.
"Who dares ambush our Sky Demon Phoenix Clan? Courting death!"
The woman in red snapped back to her senses, her fury rising as she saw her clan members being slaughtered in an instant.
With a cold snarl, she clenched her delicate hand towards the space below. The chaotic currents twisted violently and, with a loud explosion, were shattered by her immense power.
"Haha! If I were a coward, how could I dare ambush the Sky Demon Phoenix Clan?"
Amid the shattered space, a voice of laughter rang out. A figure swiftly shot out from the debris and appeared before the Sky Demon Phoenix Clan. With a wave of his arms, a massive aura spread out. "The Three Phoenixes of the Sky Demon Clan—long time no see!"
"Who are you?" The woman in red fixed her gaze on the newcomer with murderous intent. Her eyes narrowed, and her face suddenly darkened. "Yao Ming… You're still alive?!"
"What?! Isn't he supposed to have died after going mad from Qi deviation?" Kunhuang and Yinghuang were both stunned.
"Heh, if the three of you old monsters didn't die, how could I, the king, fall so easily?" Yao Ming laughed.
"No matter how you survived, Yao Ming, you've grown bold. Do you really think your Nine Serene Python Clan can stand on equal footing with the Sky Demon Phoenix Clan and throw your weight around?" The woman in red glared at Yao Ming, her voice dripping with icy hostility.
"Heh, what arrogance from the Sky Demon Phoenix Clan!"
A calm voice suddenly sounded from behind Yao Ming. The space beside him rippled, and two figures slowly appeared in front of everyone.
"Who are you two?" The woman in red's expression changed as she sensed that both newcomers were Dou Saints.
"Mo Yu, Zihuo!" Kunhuang, standing beside her, answered in a deep voice.
"Mo Yu? You're the one responsible for preventing our Sky Demon Phoenix Clan from obtaining the Dragon Phoenix Origin Fruit?" The woman's face darkened further, her teeth gritting in anger as she glared at Mo Yu.
"That's right. It's me," Mo Yu replied with a smile.
The woman in red took a deep breath, her gaze shifting between Mo Yu, Yao Ming, and their companions. Clearly, they hadn't come in peace.
"Yao Ming, do you intend to start a full-scale war between the Nine Serene Python Clan and the Sky Demon Phoenix Clan?" the woman's voice was cold as ice.
"And why not?" Yao Ming responded with a cold shout.
"The Nine Serene Python Clan has grown arrogant!" the woman's expression sank. She then turned to Mo Yu and Zihuo. "Are you two also planning to break all ties with the Sky Demon Phoenix Clan?"
"Break ties? Did we ever get along in the first place? However, if you kneel and bow three times, maybe we can settle this peacefully," Mo Yu sneered.
"Brat! I was dominating the Dou Qi continent before your mother was even born!" Yinghuang roared, his eyes flashing with killing intent. His powerful Dou Qi erupted like a storm.
"Kill them!" The woman in red, her face ice-cold, spat out her words filled with murderous intent.
"Haha! Let's see how much progress you Three Phoenixes have made after all these years!" Yao Ming laughed as he shot forward.
"I alone am enough to deal with you! Kunhuang, Yinghuang, take care of the other two!" The woman in red sneered and darted toward Yao Ming.
However, before she could reach him, a slender figure appeared in front of her, blocking her path.
"So, you're the leader of the Three Phoenixes. Let me personally experience your strength," Mo Yu said, standing in her way with a light smile.
"A mere late-stage One-Star Dou Saint dares challenge me? Are you looking to die?" the woman in red said disdainfully, her cold eyes locked on Mo Yu. To her, only Yao Ming was a real threat. Mo Yu and Zihuo, both being One-Star Dou Saints, were insignificant and couldn't change the outcome of the battle.
"Oh, then show me the power of a Two-Star Dou Saint," Mo Yu replied calmly.
"If you're so eager to die, then hand over your life!" The woman's eyes gleamed with malice. With a flick of her hand, a massive red spear, over a hundred feet long, condensed from powerful energy. It shot toward Mo Yu like a bolt of lightning, as if piercing the sky itself.
This woman was indeed the leader of the Three Phoenixes, and her Two-Star Dou Saint strength was enough to crush any One-Star Dou Saint.
Yet, to everyone's surprise, Mo Yu made no move. His eyes closed slowly, as if he was simply waiting for death.
Seeing this, the woman's face broke into a cold smile. In her mind, Mo Yu was clearly walking into his own death.
Even the powerful warriors of the Nine Serene Python Clan were confused. Some of the elders, dissatisfied with joining Yuan Mansion, murmured, "Clan Leader, is Lord Mo Yu being reckless? That Phoenix is—"
Before the elder could finish, everyone's eyes widened in shock at the scene that followed.
"Shatter!"
Just as the red spear was about to strike, Mo Yu suddenly opened his eyes. He softly uttered a single word.
Crack!
At the sound of his voice, an indescribable wave of soul energy surged out from between his eyebrows, like a violent tornado.
Under this soul pressure, the red spear instantly disintegrated. Even the energy it was made of dimmed and faded.
Mo Yu's soul power was at the half-step Emperor level, comparable to a Three-Star Dou Saint. For a Two-Star Dou Saint like Phoenix, there was no contest.
In a single exchange, she was already on the losing side. Her expression changed drastically, her eyes wide with disbelief.
"Retreat!" Phoenix, though shocked, was no novice. Realizing the danger, she immediately tried to retreat.
"Where do you think you're going?" Mo Yu's cold voice followed her. In a flash, he appeared in front of her like a ghost, his finger piercing through her defenses as a surge of terrifying soul power burst forth.
Bang!
Caught off guard, Phoenix grunted in pain as she was sent flying back, stumbling hundreds of feet before finally stabilizing herself. Her eyes, now filled with fear, were locked on Mo Yu. She had finally realized that he was using soul power—a force far more dangerous than physical strength.
"Sister!"
Kunhuang and Yinghuang, who had been preparing to fight Yao Ming and Zihuo, were horrified to see Phoenix sent flying by a single blow from Mo Yu. They immediately rushed to her side, their eyes filled with fear as they glared at Mo Yu.
"Sister, what happened?!" Kunhuang asked, alarmed.
"His soul power is incredibly strong—he's close to the Emperor level!" Phoenix gritted her teeth, still in shock.
"What?! Emperor-level soul power?!" Kunhuang and Yinghuang were both stunned.
The Emperor level represented the peak of soul power on the continent. Even an Eight-Star Dou Saint wouldn't dare underestimate an Emperor-level soul user.
The strongest figure in the Sky Demon Phoenix Clan was only a Five-Star Dou Saint.
Kunhuang stared at Mo Yu in disbelief. Not long ago, when they clashed at the Tianxuan Treasure Hall, Mo Yu had just broken through to become a Dou Saint. Yet in only a few months, he now possessed such terrifying soul power. It was truly terrifying.
"No, he hasn't fully reached the Emperor level yet. If he had, I wouldn't have survived that attack. But he's on the verge—at the half-step Emperor level. Given time, Mo Yu could very well achieve full Emperor-level soul power," Phoenix said gravely.
Kunhuang and Yinghuang breathed a slight sigh of relief, but hearing the latter part of her statement made their hearts tense up again.
If Mo Yu ever reached full Emperor-level soul power, it would spell disaster for the Sky Demon Phoenix Clan.
"Sister, what should we do now? Should we call for the clan leader?" Yinghuang asked grimly.
With Mo Yu's half-step Emperor soul power, combined with Yao Ming and Zihuo, their group had no chance of winning a direct confrontation.
Their only hope would be for the clan leader to step in personally.
"No, the clan leader is in a critical stage of his seclusion. He can't be disturbed," Phoenix shook her head bitterly. "We'll have to retreat for now."
Before leaving, Phoenix turned to Mo Yu, her eyes filled with venomous hatred. "Mo Yu, you have guts! The Sky Demon Phoenix Clan will remember this. From now on, we are sworn enemies. We will never rest until you're dead!"
She had never felt so humiliated. Leading a mission, she had expected an easy victory, but instead, she encountered a force far beyond her ability to handle.
"I'll be waiting," Mo Yu replied with a faint smile.
Phoenix's face twitched in anger, her eyes burning with fury. But she suppressed her rage, swiping her hand through the air to create a spatial tear. Without another word, she stepped into the rift.
One by one, the elders and strong warriors of the Sky Demon Phoenix Clan followed her into the tear, none daring to look back for fear of being struck down by Mo Yu.
As the last of the Sky Demon Phoenix Clan disappeared, silence returned to the void. Yao Ming turned to Mo Yu and congratulated him. "Lord, your power is unmatched. You've sent the Three Phoenixes fleeing in disgrace."
Behind Yao Ming, the warriors of the Nine Serene Python Clan exchanged awkward glances. Initially, many of them had doubted Mo Yu, believing he was reckless for challenging Phoenix. None of them had expected that he, at such a young age, already possessed the fearsome half-step Emperor soul power.
After witnessing Mo Yu's strength, many of the elders who had been against joining Yuan Mansion began to have a change of heart.
Seeing their newfound respect, Mo Yu nodded in satisfaction. His display of strength had been meant to intimidate and ensure they understood his power.
"Next, we head to Eastern Dragon Island," Mo Yu said, his smile fading as his gaze turned toward the distant void.
The Three Phoenixes were merely the appetizer. Mo Yu hadn't killed them outright to avoid provoking the mysterious leader of the Sky Demon Phoenix Clan.
With the Phoenixes retreating, his next goal was to help Zi Yan quell the rebellion on Eastern Dragon Island...
