Director Chang stayed in Meilan Hall for only four or five minutes. After drinking a few toasts, he excused himself and left.
His main purpose was to clear up any misunderstandings, and at the same time, formally meet the two hottest stars in the entertainment industry right now, as well as chat about the progress of Full House's filming.
Zhejiang TV had already secured the first broadcast rights to the drama. With summer vacation approaching, a large-scale publicity campaign was about to begin. The station placed high hopes on the ratings; even the advertising sponsorship plans had been drafted in advance.
Director Chang knew exactly how important this series was, so he treated Lu Chen and Chen Fei'er with deep respect. It wasn't just because of their status in showbiz, more importantly, Zhejiang TV's collaboration with their studios involved massive financial interests.
The moment Director Chang left, Lu Chen's phone rang.
It was Gao He calling.
"Old Third, you in Hangzhou yet?"
Even though Lu Chen was now a nationally famous idol, in Gao He's eyes, he was still the same "Old Third" from dorm room 405 at Jianghai University.
Lu Chen liked it that way. He laughed. "I'm here. Currently eating at Egret Manor. You?"
"Ahem!"
Gao He sounded completely tormented. "Fourth Brother and I, along with a bunch of friends, are stuck outside Xiaoling's place. They won't let us in! Those bridesmaids are definitely trying to kill us!"
Lu Chen burst out laughing. "Hahaha! Grabbing the bride always means passing three trials. Want me to come help?"
Gao He was overjoyed. "If you can help, that would be amazing! Finish eating, I'll have Fourth Brother drive over to pick you up."
With their level of friendship, polite words would only feel distant.
Lu Chen naturally had no objections. "Tell Fourth Brother to call me when he arrives. I'll come out to meet him."
"Good!"
After hanging up, Tian Tian, sitting beside him, asked curiously, "Your friend is getting married today?"
Lu Chen nodded. "Yeah. So I'm leaving Fei'er in your care today."
Tian Tian pressed her lips together, smiling mischievously. "So you're just going to hide Sister Fei'er away? Not taking her to the wedding banquet?"
Such a little attempt at stirring the pot couldn't possibly shake Lu Chen. He laughed. "I'll bring her when I get married next time."
The truth was simple: Chen Fei'er's identity was too special. Bringing her along to a buddy's wedding would overshadow the bride and groom. He couldn't let his friend's wedding banquet turn into his girlfriend's fan meet.
He and Chen Fei'er had already agreed to invite the newlyweds out for dinner the next day. That would solve everything perfectly.
Tian Tian was speechless.
Chen Fei'er hugged her and said playfully, "I don't care about him. We're having a girls' day together!"
Tian Tian sighed dramatically. "Seeing you two being all lovey-dovey makes me want to fall in love myself."
Chen Fei'er offered, "Should I introduce you to someone?"
Tian Tian curled her lip. "No thanks. I'm focusing on my career right now. Men are just illusions. I'll think about it later."
The two continued chatting and laughing, and the atmosphere remained warm and lively.
About half an hour later, Fourth Brother's call came in.
Lu Chen waved his phone at Chen Fei'er. "I'm heading out. You guys take your time eating."
Chen Fei'er nodded. "Be careful."
Lu Chen grinned. "Got it, dear."
"Eek-!" Tian Tian shivered dramatically. "So mushy!"
Lu Chen laughed, greeted Xiao Haichao and his wife again, and then left the private room. Outside Egret Manor, Lu Chen quickly spotted Fourth Brother's car.
"Fourth Brother, you've made it big, huh?" Once he got into the car, Lu Chen looked around the pristine interior in surprise. "Driving a Benz now, I see."
Fourth Brother, Zhou Rui, was a native of Hangzhou, skinny and plain-looking. He shot Lu Chen a contemptuous side-eye. "Cut it out, big star. This Benz is borrowed for the wedding convoy. I'm just a lousy driver."
Lu Chen burst out laughing and punched him lightly. "Quit whining. Drive!"
Zhou Rui: "凸!"
On the way to the bride's home, Lu Chen chatted with Zhou Rui and caught up on the brothers' current situations.
After graduation, Gao He had stayed in Hangzhou instead of returning to his hometown, even giving up the job he had lined up. He currently worked with Xiaoling at a local game company. They couldn't afford a house, but they lived happily and supported each other. Their early marriage was the result of long consideration, not impulse.
Zhou Rui explained, "Xiaoling's family was pretty against it, mainly because they don't have a house. So the two just went ahead and registered their marriage directly."
It wasn't just opposition, at the beginning, Wang Xiaoling's parents strongly disapproved of the relationship, almost to the point of cutting ties with her. Their condition for accepting them was simple: Gao He had to buy a house in Hangzhou.
But with Hangzhou's current housing prices, that was something young people simply couldn't afford. In the end, it was Xiaoling's determination and Gao He's sincerity that won them over. The story in between was complicated enough to write a novel.
Lu Chen nodded. It hadn't been easy for Gao He and Wang Xiaoling to finally be together. Long-distance relationships during college had a 99% failure rate, but fortunately, these two had the courage to see it through.
Old K, Wan Hongzhi, had gone to Huhai after graduation. He worked under his senior at first, but soon resigned and moved south to Shenhai to work at an internet company. Because work was too busy, he couldn't make it to the wedding.
As for Zhou Rui, he was working in the gaming department of Feiteng Company.
Feiteng was one of the top three internet companies in the country, famous for Yibao and YifuPay. Its gaming division was incredibly strong, developing and operating numerous hit online games.
Importantly, Feiteng was based in Hangzhou, and its employee benefits were among the best in the industry. Among the four brothers from the dorm, aside from Lu Chen, Zhou Rui was doing the best career-wise.
Everyone had their own opportunities in life. Overall, everyone was doing well, though it was a pity they couldn't all reunite this time.
Zhou Rui couldn't resist gossiping: "Old Third, are you and Chen Fei'er actually planning to get married?"
His face was full of envy. Chen Fei'er was a real goddess. Who could've imagined that the guy he once shared a dorm with would end up dating her? It was like hitting the ultimate jackpot in life.
Lu Chen laughed. "Not thinking about marriage yet. What about you? Got a girlfriend?"
Zhou Rui pulled a bitter face. "My mom dragged me to a few blind dates, but either I didn't like them or they didn't like me. Nothing ever matches up. I've given up, just going with the flow now."
Among the four dorm brothers, Zhou Rui had the worst luck with girls. In four years of college, he was the only one who never dated. The worst part was when the other three were all paired up, and he was always the lone shadow.
But Zhou Rui didn't mind too much, he was perfectly content living with his games.
Chatting all the way, they arrived at the residential complex where Wang Xiaoling lived.
