Spirit Painting is different from normal painting.
It requires one to tap into the astral planes to infuse the painting with the very essence of the soul. Since Spirit Paintings can be manifested, it requires a connection to the astral plane.
Normally, Kent wouldn't have to worry, provided he had a Spirit Brush. These brushes are created with a connection to the Astral Plane already established within them.
So when using such a brush during the painting process, the painter wouldn't have to tap too much into their soul essence.
Kent doesn't have that, so he was forced to use his soul essence for all three paintings. Also, since the paintings he had painted aren't exactly simple, it drained him more than he expected.
