Su Qing knew every rhythm of Yan's day. She knew that at 10:00 AM, Yan's shoulders would tense from the mountain of reports, and a cup of jasmine tea would miraculously appear on her desk. She knew that at 3:00 PM, Yan's blood sugar would dip, and a single piece of dark chocolate would be waiting by her keyboard.

"President Lin," a junior secretary stammered at the door. "Mr. Zhao Feng is in the lobby. He says he has an appointment for the merger discussion."

Lin Yan sighed, rubbing her temples. "I don't remember an appointment, but the Zhao family is a key partner. Send him—"
"No."

"Excuse me?" Yan asked, her voice dipping into that dangerous, icy CEO tone. "Su Qing, you are an assistant. You do not tell me 'no'."
Su Qing walked toward the desk. The "slow burn" of their proximity felt like standing near a furnace. She leaned over the obsidian surface, her face inches from Yan's. The scent of sandalwood from Yan and the faint, floral sweetness of Su Qing mingled in the narrow space between them.
"He is not here for a merger, President Lin," Su Qing whispered, her voice low and intimate, sending a shiver down Yan's spine. "He is here to trap you. If you see him today, he will suggest a dinner. At that dinner, he will suggest a 'partnership' that involves more than just stocks. I am protecting the company's interests... and yours."
Lin Yan's breath hitched. The way Su Qing looked at her—with a mix of fierce possessiveness and agonizing tenderness—made her heart skip a beat. It was as if this girl could see a future Yan hadn't even imagined yet.
"How could you possibly know his intentions?" Yan whispered back, unable to break eye contact.
"Because I've seen the way men like him look at treasures they don't deserve," Su Qing said. She reached out, her fingers ghosting over the sleeve of Yan's blazer, a touch so light it was almost a hallucination. "Trust me. Just this once. Tell him you are busy with internal restructuring."
For a long moment, the office was silent, save for the hum of the air conditioning. Yan felt a magnetic pull toward her assistant—a desire to lean into that protective shadow and let the world wait.
"Tell Mr. Zhao I am unavailable," Yan finally said to the secretary, her voice slightly breathless. "All week."
The secretary scurried away.
Lin Yan stood up, her height matching Su Qing's. The tension between them was thick enough to touch. "You've crossed a line, Su Qing. Why do you care so much? We've known each other for six days."
Su Qing didn't back down. She stepped into Yan's personal space, her hand moving from the blazer to the small of Yan's back, pressing just enough to ground her.
"I've known you for a lifetime, Yan," Su Qing murmured, the informal use of her name making Yan's knees weak. "You just don't remember the part where I promised to never let anyone hurt you again."
She withdrew her hand slowly, the skin-to-skin contact through the fabric leaving a trail of heat. "I'll go prepare your lunch. You need to eat."
As Su Qing walked out, Lin Yan collapsed back into her chair, her hand trembling as she touched her own heart. It was racing—not with stress, but with a terrifying, beautiful anticipation.
"Who are you?" Yan whispered to the empty room. "And why does it feel like I've been waiting for you to save me my whole life?"
