Chapter 61 - Chapter 60: Nami's illness

The Going Merry was still in the air while everyone was holding onto some part of it until they finally fell into the sea, causing the entire ship to shake violently.

"Ouch... Is everyone okay?" Oliver asked with a headache due to the impact.

"I never thought I would fly at some point," Sanji said, taking some barrels off himself.

"I hope I never have to go through this again," Zoro said, coming out of the storage room, which was where he fell.

"We really made it out of that fish," Nami said in disbelief.

"That was incredible!" Luffy and Usopp shouted.

"How are you guys okay?" Vivi asked.

"They are special," Oliver said when he saw Elegg, who was still hugging him. "Hey, you can let go of me now."

"T-That was... Entertaining!" Elegg shouted, separating herself from Oliver. "It was like a gigantic air cannon!"

"Yes! It even cut the ocean! How incredible the strength of the giants is!" Usopp said.

Oliver was watching how Luffy, Usopp, and Elegg were even more excited than they were at the beginning.

"I guess it was a good thing I bought another bed for the women's room," Oliver said, looking at the clouds in the sky. 'That bastard is already up to his old tricks. Elegg... Why her?'

Oliver closed his eyes, trying to relax for a moment, when he felt someone touching his face, so upon opening his eyes again, he saw Elegg poking him with her finger.

"What's wrong? What's wrong? Don't tell me this left a Beastkin out of strength," Elegg said, continuing to poke him. "Or do you need help getting up?"

"I'm fine, just a bit tired," Oliver told her, getting up.

When he was getting up, he noticed something.

'Was she always this small?' Oliver thought upon noticing the size difference as he saw what seemed to be two Eleggs before it returned to just being one. 'Hmmmm... Something isn't working right.'

Everyone started doing different things; Luffy and Usopp were celebrating that they were going to the town of the Giants, Elbaf, seemingly having forgotten what they had just been through. Zoro was training with heavy weights with the goal of being able to cut steel. Sanji was in the kitchen preparing food for everyone. Nami and Vivi were talking a bit outside, while Oliver had been guiding Elegg around the ship so she could see it completely.

"And this is the women's room. As you can see, it's much better than the men's," Oliver said, entering carefully so as not to hit his head.

"Wow! Now this is a room! Not like yours!" Elegg said upon seeing the room.

She went straight to one of the beds to jump on it and get comfortable.

"Well, that's because there are more of us and there isn't enough space for so many beds," Oliver said.

"Hmmm... And the three of us will have to sleep in two beds?" Elegg asked.

"Be thankful that I bought an extra bed beforehand, otherwise the three of you would have to share one bed," Oliver said, feeling somewhat dizzy.

"Then I'll take this bed. I'm sure they won't mind," Elegg said, already arranging her things in the room.

"You sure are fast with that," Oliver said while looking at Elegg's bag, which had many strange parts inside. 'Doesn't she have any more clothes?'

"Can you help me? I want to move the bed," Elegg said as she crouched down to check something on the bed.

"You're barely in the room and you already want to change how it is," Oliver said, trying not to look at Elegg too much. "Come out from there and I'll help you."

Elegg came out from under the bed and Oliver was going to help until a scream was heard.

"Everyone!! Come quickly!" Vivi shouted.

Oliver and Elegg looked at each other before running outside, where they saw Nami on the floor, agitated and sweating bullets.

"Nami-san has a terrible fever!!" Vivi shouted.

"We have to take her inside," Oliver said, going with them to pick Nami up in his arms, where he felt that his arm wasn't moving right, but he brushed it aside. "Let's go."

They took her to the women's room, where they laid her down on one of the beds.

"Usopp-san, we need a cloth and water," Vivi told him.

"Right away." Usopp quickly went out to fetch what they asked for.

"Her fever keeps rising," Oliver said, touching her forehead, but he could barely feel it. 'It might not be a very good idea to have heat resistance in these cases.'

"I brought it!" Usopp said as he arrived.

They placed the cloths on her forehead to try and bring her temperature down.

"Nami-san isn't going to die, right?! Right, Vivi-san?!" Sanji said, crying.

"It was probably the weather. The one barrier that no sailor on the Grand Line is guaranteed to cross!" Vivi said. "Even the fiercest pirate who came from any other sea could die from an illness."

"First let's focus on bringing her temperature down," Oliver told them.

"Hey, but if she eats some meat, her illness will get better, right, Sanji?" Luffy said.

Sanji explained to Luffy that he gave the best food they had on hand to Nami, Vivi, and now Elegg, so they were perfectly nourished, and he wasn't able to do anything more for her.

"40 degrees?! Her temperature keeps going up!" Vivi said.

"Could she have gotten sick from something on Little Garden?" Elegg asked.

"Maybe," Vivi said.

"There will be doctors when we reach Alabasta, right? How long do you think it will take us to get there?" Usopp asked her.

"I don't know, but we might arrive in a week!" Vivi told him.

"Is an illness that serious?" Luffy asked.

"I don't know, I've never had one," Sanji and Usopp said.

"A person's body raises its temperature to be able to eliminate the disease or virus in the system, but the body can't withstand such a temperature," Oliver explained to them.

"But is that temperature normal?" Luffy asked.

"If she stays at 40 degrees, I highly doubt she'll make it through the night," Oliver said.

"NAMI IS GOING TO DIE?!" Luffy shouted worriedly.

"NAMI-SAN, DON't DIE!!" Sanji shouted crying.

Usopp and Karoo were screaming all over the room, which was bothering Vivi.

"Silence! And stop running around here!" Vivi shouted at them.

"We have to find a doctor and save Nami!!" Luffy told her.

"I get it! But please, calm down," Vivi told him, trying to calm Luffy.

"No, you shouldn't..." Nami said.

Nami sat up a little, making Luffy happy, thinking she was fine.

"There's a newspaper in the desk drawer," Nami said.

Vivi checked the newspaper, which stated that 300,000 imperial soldiers of Alabasta had joined the rebels, causing Vivi to worry excessively.

"Now the rebellion in Alabasta will advance at full speed. That newspaper is from a few days ago. I'm sorry... even if I had shown it to you, we wouldn't be able to go any faster, and I didn't want to cause you any worry; that's why I hid it," Nami said. "Do you understand, Luffy?"

"I get the impression that it's something serious," Luffy said.

"Yes, well, you understood it better than I thought," Nami said.

"But if we don't find a doctor soon..." Usopp said, worried about Nami's temperature.

"I'm fine, that thermometer is broken. No one could survive with a temperature of 40 degrees; it's probably just heatstroke." She got up from the bed to head up to the surface, but she was grabbed by Oliver.

"Nami, don't pretend there's nothing wrong with you. It even shows on your face. It's better if you stay in bed," Oliver told her, trying to get her to stay in the room and rest.

"It's fine, I don't need any doctor. So let's go straight to Alabasta as we had planned. Thanks for worrying about me." Nami thanked them all.

"Hey, Nami! You have to stay inside!" Oliver shouted, going after her.

Nami left the room, where she started scolding Zoro for not following the guide of the Eternal Pose.

"Nami, you have to go inside," Oliver said, holding her by the arm.

"I'm fine. No problem," Nami said.

She stood looking at the sea, where she noticed something.

"The air has changed," Nami said.

"The air? Look, the weather has been good all this time," Zoro said.

"Exactly, call everyone," Nami said.

"Shit. Everyone! Get up here from below!" Oliver shouted.

"What's going on?" Sanji said, coming out along with the rest.

"We have to move the ship," Oliver said.

"What's wrong, Nami-san? The sea is calm and the weather is fine," Sanji said.

While they were talking, Oliver went to raise the anchor and pull it up onto the Merry.

"Hmmmm..."

Luffy approached Nami and placed his hand on her forehead, confusing her a bit until he pulled it away, feeling how it burned.

"Ouch! God, you're burning up! We have to stop the ship and take you to a doctor!" Luffy complained, his hand hurting.

"Don't be ridiculous! This is my normal temperature! Stop being an idiot and help the rest," Nami yelled at him.

"Are you sure something is coming? It's not possible to predict the weather," Elegg asked her.

"Shut up and move the ship!" Nami yelled at them.

Following Nami's instructions, they turned around to deviate from the route they had been following previously.

Just then, Vivi came out of the room, making the rest stare at her.

"I have something to ask of all of you. I know I'm telling you this after you decided to let me board this ship with you, but my country is falling into a terrible fate, and I want to hurry and get there," Vivi said, worried about her country. "That's why we can't postpone it in any way. So I want to head this ship towards Alabasta at Maximum Speed."

"Of course. We promised you," Nami said with a smile.

"So we are going to look for an island with a doctor. We have to cure Nami-san's illness as soon as possible, then we'll be able to head to Alabasta at full speed, right?!" Vivi said determinedly.

"You're right! With Nami, it will go much faster!" Luffy said with a smile.

"Are you sure? You're a princess; you have a million people to worry about," Usopp said.

"Yes! That's the reason why we must cure Nami as soon as possible!" Vivi said.

"Well said, Vivi-chan! I'm in love all over again!" Sanji said.

"You've got guts," Zoro said.

"It's a good strategy to get Nami to agree to be cured," Elegg said.

"If she hadn't done it, I probably would have done something stupid to make her agree that we go to a doctor," Oliver said, relieved.

"I'm sorry, Vivi. I really think I am sick," Nami said, barely able to stand.

Just then, Luffy gave a loud shout because a giant hurricane had appeared in the exact same place they had been heading previously.

"We have to head south! To find a doctor!" Vivi shouted.

Everyone cheered in approval, and then they went to lay Nami down in the room to monitor her temperature while setting course to find a doctor.

That same night, Oliver decided to stay awake keeping watch over the Going Merry while the rest rested.

Oliver made sure that everyone was sleeping, so he prepared to train, though he went to the bathroom first.

"I have to get stronger. I was barely able to overcome that giant fish skeleton, but I highly doubt I can overcome steel."

He felt a pain in his neck, so he took off his leather jacket, seeing how black lines had appeared all over his body, starting from his neck.

"This isn't Nami's illness. It's something else, and it doesn't look like necrosis. One Piece and its weird diseases... I have resistance to poisons and diseases, and I also have an adaptive body. With that, I should be able to hold out until we reach Drum..."

He tried to put his jacket back on when everything started spinning, causing him to fall over the bathtub, unconscious.
