About twenty to thirty minutes after Mayor Williams left his office, the phone on his desk suddenly rang.
James, who was sitting on the sofa and pondering something unknown, suddenly turned his head to look at the phone. He slightly narrowed his eyes and waited for two rings before getting up to answer it.
It had rung seven or eight times in total. If it wasn't a call that absolutely needed to reach the Mayor, the caller might have hung up by the third or fourth ring.
Being able to stay on the line like this indicated that this matter was indeed very important.
"This is the Mayor's office."
"Mr. Mayor?" The person on the other end seemed unfamiliar with James's voice and felt it wasn't the Mayor speaking.
"This is James. The Mayor has stepped out for some urgent matters. What do you need to discuss with me?"
