Gyro Ball tunneling underground ultimately created some disturbance.
Midway through freezing the terrain, Greninja successfully detected that Ferrothorn seemed to be moving.
It decisively halted its output and recalled its Substitute.
The opponent hurriedly gave chase. It was rather ironic that this trainer was less aware of his own Pokémon's location than his opponent's Pokémon.
Li Xiang stood at the edge, communicating through eye contact with the false Greninja, thus understanding the current situation on the field.
'In that case, use Nasty Plot once more and finish it off!'
The false Greninja signaled understanding. The real body, surrounded by remaining Double Team clones, stealthily used Nasty Plot again to boost its Attack and Special Attack.
To confuse the opponent's eyes, it intentionally had the clones and Substitute frantically swap positions.
Finally, just as the unlucky fellow underground was about to emerge, the false Greninja kicked out!
The opponent, too tense, directly shouted, "Protect!"
Boom!
The suddenly emerging Ferrothorn didn't hesitate, immediately activating Protect. But what struck it was an ordinary frog foot devoid of any elemental energy!
A normal attack!
Slap!
The green shield vanished without a trace, and the Greninja hiding nearby, still maintaining its Camouflage, finally raised its left leg shrouded in brownish light, kicking Ferrothorn hard!
[Low Kick]!
Boom!
Super effective!
Two consecutive Nasty Plots, plus Ferrothorn's hundred-kilogram body, ensured this Low Kick struck its critical point!
Ferrothorn flew high into the air before landing with a thump in another water-filled pit.
Fortunately, this pit wasn't very deep, revealing half of its body with its eyes rolled back.
Without any suspense, even with defenses as strong as Ferrothorn's, there was a limit when facing super-effective moves.
The opponent opened his mouth as if to say something, but upon seeing the pained expression on the false Greninja's face, he ultimately closed it.
Switch Pokémon. He couldn't afford to give Greninja too much room.
He released Pelipper, running towards the outside of the field while shouting, "Hurricane!"
He intended to clear out all the clones and the Substitute in one go, and also attack Greninja's true body!
"Peli!"
Pelipper cried out, flapping its somewhat strange wings to summon a swirling storm of sky-blue currents!
In an instant!
The clones were swept away by the Hurricane, and the Substitute dissipated like smoke!
The opponent's Pelipper still had considerable offensive power; the Hurricane's power was strong, easily capable of wiping out the false Greninja, which represented a quarter of Greninja's health.
However, a hazy figure stood unwavering within the gale. In its hands, ice-blue light burst forth, transforming into a swift bolt of lightning that shot towards the Pelipper above, engrossed in blowing wind!
Although Pelipper's offense was strong, its extremely fragile Special Defense was impossible to forget.
Even though part of the lightning bolt made contact and exploded with the sky-blue currents, reducing its power, the remaining electricity still passed through the wind and rain, striking Pelipper.
At a visibly fast pace, Pelipper's wings became encased in ice. Its body uncontrollably plummeted, crashing onto the water's surface.
Seeing this, Greninja simply and directly dispelled its Camouflage and swaggered towards Pelipper.
In its hands, two blood-red blades shimmering with a dark glow materialized.
"Use Scald!"
The opponent, seeing this, decided to gamble on a burn.
Greninja couldn't possibly be unhurt. Even assuming Kingdra's Hurricane missed, the subsequent Substitute, Hurricane, and the recoil from defeating Ferrothorn meant its health absolutely couldn't be high.
If Scald was lucky enough to burn Greninja, then it was definitely going down!
At least take down one of this guy's Pokémon!
The opponent gritted his teeth, having already given up on defeating Li Xiang, now only hoping to take down one of his Pokémon.
The requirement wasn't high.
Just one.
However, even this tiny request, Li Xiang and Greninja couldn't fulfill.
The high evasion from using Double Team twice allowed Greninja, when Pelipper shot out that steaming hot water orb, to suddenly sidestep and dodge it.
The Scald grazed its chest, landing on the snowy ground behind it, instantly melting a large amount of snow and ice, and Greninja successfully arrived before Pelipper.
Looking at this poor thing with frozen wings unable to fly, Greninja did not hesitate to thrust its blood-red blades into Pelipper's body!
Thump thump!
Two dull thuds!
Smoke exploded, quickly spreading in all directions, but was gently blown away by Greninja, revealing the fainted Pelipper below.
Once Greninja had boosted itself up, the battle was naturally without any suspense.
"This guy, could have finished it with a single Water Shuriken, but had to show off."
The corner of Li Xiang's mouth twitched. He, the trainer, was shivering from the cold, yet this fellow took its time walking over for psychological pressure?
But the spectacle was extremely strong.
He clearly saw that when Greninja sidestepped the Scald, many in the audience stands screamed.
Couldn't hear what they were shouting, nothing more than "cool" or something.
It was good to have ability. Even a chuunibyou could be turned into a cool guy.
Li Xiang looked at the distant opponent, only wishing he would release the last low-health Kingdra sooner so he could get off the field quickly.
He couldn't bear the cold anymore.
Ten seconds.
Who knew what mental journey the opponent went through, his face turning from green to purple, then to ruddy.
Kingdra was finally released slowly.
The long-waiting Greninja didn't waste time talking. It jumped directly on one foot to Kingdra's landing point.
Pink light burst from its body, released in a fan-shaped pattern!
Kingdra hadn't even had time to look up. Its body received a head-to-toe baptism by the pink light.
In less than three seconds. Knocked Out.
Like a seahorse out of water, it lay powerless in the snow, rain pouring down on it. Unfortunately, it didn't have the Rain Dish Ability, so it couldn't recover health in the rain.
A pity.
"Beeep—"
The referee blew his whistle. This whistle was prolonged and drawn-out, even mixed with another whistle.
It was the signal for the end of a single match.
The two commentators shouted, "Audience, friends! A legend is born! At this very moment.... In the third round of the Spring Tournament... Li Xiang from the Mist City University has successfully achieved his five consecutive victories!"
"Let us congratulate him for accomplishing the feat of one against five! We believe that you, whether in front of the TV, computer, or in the arena, will deeply remember this match in your hearts!"
"Because this is an unprecedented match! Our Xia Nan division has created a miracle!"
"Let us congratulate the rising star—Li Xiang!"
Amid their tireless praise, countless audience members stood up, applauding for Li Xiang, applauding for his outstanding performance today!
Even more people continuously shouted his name, like fans calling out to an idol.
Li Xiang silently recalled Greninja, gave them a slight bow, then quickly walked off the stage.
Without another word, a crowd of people swarmed up from the preparation area. They first took off Li Xiang's outer coat, replaced it with a thicker one, then wiped the rain from his head.
Song Jie and Gong Xu, one on each side, clamped onto Li Xiang's shoulders.
"To be honest, if you couldn't keep going, I wouldn't have minded taking one off your hands."
Gong Xu, seeing Li Xiang's tired face, habitually used his quirky accent.
"If you pull this hindsight talk again, I'll embed you into the wall."
Li Xiang glanced at him, his expression extremely serious.
The latter gave an awkward laugh, "Aiya, I was just kidding, don't take it seriously."
"I was kidding too."
Li Xiang let out a sigh of relief. Finally finished. After these five battles, his Pokémon were half-dead, and he himself was half-dead.
Incineroar's upper body was charred; who knew how much fur would fall off.
Poor Incineroar. And Corviknight—its wings frozen twice in a row definitely wouldn't feel good.
Rotom was so tired it didn't even enter his phone; probably sleeping, right?
Metagross too, hit by Endeavor, its health dropped to a critical point.
Only Riolu and Greninja were in slightly better condition—one with cuts from Hurricane and burns from fire, the other not only had cuts but also a left leg swollen large.
Though it seemed none of his Pokémon fainted, actually, everyone's condition wasn't great.
If he had to face another opponent next, he probably wouldn't have held up himself.
'Need more training.'
Supported by the "Gold and Silver lads", Li Xiang arrived at the temporary resting room and quickly changed his clothes.
"Li Xiang, rest a bit. Later, I'll take you to the hospital."
Miao Shuang walked in from outside, felt his forehead to confirm he didn't have a fever, then spoke.
"Eh... hospital..."
Li Xiang didn't really want to go; he mainly wanted to sleep now.
"Alright, your health is more important. You can sleep at the hospital."
Miao Shuang patted his head.
From the moment Li Xiang achieved the pentakill, for the next six years, his body no longer belonged solely to himself. It also belonged to Mist City University.
The university board absolutely wouldn't want him getting sick or anything.
Li Xiang didn't respond because he had already fallen asleep, remembering to set his phone to silent before drifting off.
Song Jie and Gong Xu exchanged a look, carried this young man, and took him back to Mist City University's resting room.
The originally chattering and excited senior sisters, upon seeing the sleeping Li Xiang, unconsciously lowered their voices.
Xu He stood beside Miao Shuang, sighing, "I honestly never thought one against five could actually be achieved. Being able to beat three would have already satisfied me."
"You're pretending to be humble after gaining an advantage. But Li Xiang is indeed hardworking enough. His Pokémon's condition was also excellent, at least performing at 120% of their usual level."
Miao Shuang replied with a smile, then whispered, "Did the university board have any reaction?"
"What reaction could they have? A bunch of people arguing back and forth about whether to hold a press conference or not. Treating trainers like celebrities."
Xu He snorted coldly. He was one of the people who most disliked the celebrity status of trainers, yet was powerless to stop the trend.
The transformation of the Junior World Tournament from a place for team dreams to a god-making venue was also obvious.
"Press conference?" Miao Shuang was taken aback. "That wouldn't be good for Li Xiang, right?"
"Of course not. He's neither an Elite-Four nor a Champion, not even close to a Master-level. He's still too weak. Being too dazzling at this stage will only harm him."
Xu He nodded. To him, first-year Li Xiang was still too immature. He should wait until at least his third year before doing those public-facing activities.
But fortunately, Bai Wanhua wouldn't let those people mess around.
"Let him rest well at the school for the next two days." Xu He said slowly.
After all, there was nothing else for the three first-years to do next.
