Chapter 196 - The Graduation Ceremony

The morning of graduation arrived with a quiet brilliance, as if the world itself understood the significance of the day. Sunlight filtered gently through the tall windows of the university hall, illuminating rows of neatly arranged chairs and the soft hum of voices that filled the air.

Haruto adjusted the collar of his formal suit, his fingers slightly unsteady. Around him, students gathered in clusters—laughing, taking photographs, exchanging promises to stay in touch. There was joy everywhere, yet beneath it lay something softer, more fragile.

Endings.

He spotted Aiko across the hall almost instantly.

She stood near the entrance, her graduation gown draped elegantly over a soft cream dress. Her hair fell neatly over her shoulders, and for a moment, Haruto saw not the artist she had become—but the girl beneath the cherry blossom tree, clutching a pink ribbon.

"Aiko," he called.

She turned, and her face lit up.

"Haruto!"

They walked toward each other, closing the distance that once felt so difficult to overcome.

"You look…" Haruto paused, searching for the right word.

"Different?" she teased.

"Radiant," he finished.

Aiko laughed softly, her cheeks warming. "You clean up pretty well yourself."

For a moment, they stood there, simply looking at one another. No rush. No distractions.

Just presence.

The ceremony began soon after. Names were called one by one, each echoing through the hall like a final note in a long song. When Haruto's name was announced, he walked onto the stage, his steps steady but his heart racing.

As he received his certificate, a quiet realization settled within him.

This chapter is over.

Not just university—but the years of uncertainty, the long nights, the quiet struggles. Everything that had shaped him into who he was now.

When Aiko's name followed, Haruto watched her closely. She walked with grace, but there was a softness in her expression—something reflective, almost nostalgic.

When she accepted her certificate, their eyes met briefly.

And in that single glance, everything was understood.

After the ceremony, the campus transformed into a celebration. Cameras flashed, laughter echoed, and petals from nearby cherry trees drifted through the air as if marking the moment.

Haruto and Aiko found themselves walking away from the crowd, instinctively drawn toward the quieter paths.

"Do you remember our first day of school?" Aiko asked suddenly.

Haruto smiled. "You were nervous."

"And you pretended not to be," she replied.

They laughed.

"So much has changed," she said.

"Yeah," he admitted. "But somehow… it still feels the same."

They reached a familiar spot beneath a blooming cherry blossom tree on campus.

Aiko looked up, watching the petals fall.

"We made it," she whispered.

Haruto nodded.

"Yeah," he said softly. "We did."
