Xin, thoroughly entertained, wasn't bothered in the slightest. After all, it wasn't his decision to take the garbage-cleaning mission; it was handed down by the mission board. So, if Ryoji was mad, he should take it up with the mission board. It had nothing to do with Xin.
Ryoji clenched his fists, resisting the urge to torch the trash, along with the basket. Grinding his teeth, he muttered, "This feels personal. The other squads are pulling weeds or chasing cats, and we're stuck picking up trash."
"Well said!"
Xin clapped his hands in mock approval.
"I agree. I think the people at the Hokage's office are targeting us. How about this: when we're done, I'll take you to the Hokage's office, and you can ask the old man yourself why he's giving our squad such terrible missions."
Ryoji's eye twitched.

Even Hyuga Suzune, who was struggling with the garbage stench, had no comeback. Complaining to the mission board was one thing, but confronting the Hokage himself? Yeah, that wasn't going to happen.
If their families found out, they'd be in deep trouble.

Aida Sui couldn't help but chuckle at his captain's boldness.
"You don't have the guts? Then stop whining and get back to work."
"Our mission for today is to clean all the trash out of this river. If you're not worried about failing the mission and having it recorded in your personal file, you can go home now and rest," Xin said with a smirk.
Failing a mission and having it recorded on their file was something these fresh graduates- who were still in their prideful phase-couldn't bear to imagine.
Hearing Xin's words, Uchiha Ryoji's face turned dark, and he immediately picked up the bamboo basket again. He even checked it thoroughly to make sure he hadn't broken it when The dropped it in frustration.
Once he confirmed that it was intact, he breathed a sigh of relief and got back to work. He'd much rather deal with the stench than have a failure marked on his record.
Once he put it that way, Ryoji found that the smell wasn't entirely unbearable.
In fact, they should've considered themselves lucky. If they'd been given a mission to clean the village latrines, that would've been an entirely different level of suffering.
Xin wasn't sadistic enough to pick a mission like that anyway. Cleaning up garbage was bad enough; dealing with toilets? Not a chance.
Even if he didn't have to do the dirty work himself.
As the day came to a close and the mission was completed, Xin treated the team to ramen.
"Captain, when will our squad get to do higher-ranking missions?" Aida Sui asked as they sat in the ramen shop, curiosity evident in his voice.
Uchiha Ryoji and Hyuga Suzune immediately perked up, their ears practically standing to attention.
