"Build your foundation and hone your combat awareness. The stronger your foundation is, the smoother your future path will be," Xin advised.
"Yes, sir..." Aida Sui's response was less than enthusiastic.
It wasn't the answer he was hoping for.
What he wanted was some solid advice from Xin, something that could help him quickly improve his strength.
But Xin had no intention of feeding him any shortcuts.
Though he wasn't too enthusiastic about training students, Xin wasn't going to let Aida Sui sabotage his own growth by rushing the process.
He'd offer advice, but if the person didn't want to listen...
If Aida Sui continued thinking that learning more ninjutsu would make him stronger overnight, then there wasn't much Xin could do.
Some lessons you can't teach you have to let people learn them the hard way. Aida Sui was clearly in that phase.
Even with guidance from Xin, his insecurities still hadn't gone away. He was still fixated on quickly improving his strength and earning the approval of his teammates.
Watching Aida Sui's slouched form as he walked away, Xin shook his head.
He wasn't too concerned. He had given the necessary advice; whether Aida Sui accepted it was up to him.
"Hiding in the shadows and eavesdropping on someone's conversation is rude, you know," Xin said, his eyes shifting to the dark corner of the street.
Hyuga Suzune, who had been standing in the shadows, flinched before slowly stepping into the light.
"Captain, I'm sorry! I didn't mean to listen, I just..." Suzune stammered, clearly flustered. Xin was surprised to see this side of Suzune-the girl who always seemed cold and unapproachable, her expression forever stuck in "don't bother me" mode.
In any other family, it wouldn't have been a big deal. But for someone from the strict and formal Hyuga clan, eavesdropping was a serious offense. It would bring shame to the family.
Walking up to her, Xin noticed her cheeks were slightly red as he tilted his head and asked, "The Hyuga clan's compound isn't this way, is it?"
"I'm sorry... I didn't mean to," Suzune hurriedly apologized, bowing so deeply her head nearly touched her chest.
"...."
No wonder so many people said the Uchiha clan was full of crazies, and the Hyuga clan was full of lunatics.
With the suffocating rules and harsh family traditions they lived under, it was a wonder any of them stayed sane.
If Xin had been born into the Hyuga clan, he would've gone mad.
The Uchiha might have been wild and impulsive, but at least they didn't have so many ridiculous rules stifling their members.
The Hyuga clan, on the other hand, was the perfect example of being strict with their own while being weak against outsiders-especially the high-and-mighty main family.
"I'm just messing with you. I'm not mad. Now, go home and wash up. You probably hate smelling like this," Xin said, patting Suzune on the head as a sign of reassurance. But the moment his hand touched her head, Suzune's flushed cheeks turned beet red.
The blush quickly spread to her ears, and her body went stiff as a board, as if she had been hit with a paralysis jutsu.
"???"
What just happened?
Was I not supposed to touch her head?
I just patted her. Was it really that big of a deal?
