Chapter 322 - Chapter 322 - Shinigami.

[Chapter Size: 2700 Words.]

Third Person POV

Oxford.

...

...

Geralt had secretly entered Oxford University while he searched for clues about Gaunter O'Dimm, after hearing some rumors and gathering some information during his travels.

He needed to find someone who had come into contact with that demon, so he went to investigate. Finally, he jumped over the college walls and slipped inside secretly, avoiding some professors who were working late into the night and a few students moving across the grounds.

"You seem to be having some difficulty..." A voice appeared beside Geralt, making him jump immediately. He looked to the side with his hand already on the hilt of his sword and discovered it was Madara, letting out a sigh at the end.

"You're here?" he said slowly, while Madara merely raised an eyebrow, as if saying it was obvious and asking whether he really needed to answer that.

"Forget it," Geralt muttered at the end.

He remembered very well the mark that a wood clone had given him when it found him in the middle of the road traveling through the kingdoms, it was a kunai with the Hiraishin symbol.

He always kept a kunai with that mark with him, and Geralt could activate a signal when he needed Madara's help. Madara used the same structure of reaching a point by connecting through the Hiraishin jutsu to create a signal where a witcher could pass a message to him by quickly drawing the symbol in the air. This symbol cast a spell that would make a small magical device beep, a crystal that Madara had created with the help of Triss and also Yennefer.

"I've already started the plan. I'm with that Olgierd von Everec who has a contract with Gaunter. I'm going to use him against the demon himself," Madara said.

"That's good, I'm following a lead here." Geralt informed him as Madara nodded.

"Let's see the lead," he said.

Madara and Geralt managed to reach a house in the middle of the university with the light on in the center of the room. Geralt approached and knocked on the door, but no one answered. He knocked again and nothing, he could even hear a sigh inside.

Madara easily noticed that there was someone inside with his eyes. The witcher could also sense it through his instincts and by the sound of someone panting as if they were waiting for Gaunter himself to knock on the door.

"We'll have to find another way in," Geralt said.

Madara shrugged and looked up before jumping more than ten meters high, landing on the roof of the house, with Geralt still down below.

Madara only looked at him for a second and turned away, leaving the witcher's sight.

The witcher pressed his lips together. "Damn shinobi," he grumbled, while having much more difficulty climbing up to where Madara had simply reached with a single jump.

When he got there, Madara was waiting, arms crossed.

"You took your time," Madara said with a certain arrogance.

Geralt just let out a low growl and did not reply.

Madara looked at the trapdoor beneath them. "Let's go," Madara said simply, kicking the hatch and lifting it before jumping down.

Geralt had no choice but to follow him as they entered the house's attic. Madara was already at the door, opening it, while he and Geralt went down, finally seeing the lit room they had observed through the window.

There was a man inside, staring at the door in great fear.

He saw the shadows on the wall, illuminated by the candles and the lantern. He immediately startled, jumping back and almost stepping out of the circle he was standing in, some kind of circular pentagram.

"Who are you?" he gasped when he saw the white-haired man and the black-haired one approaching calmly.

"We're here to talk to you. After all, we know you're marked by Gaunter O'Dimm, or perhaps you prefer to call him a demon," Madara said calmly, while the man widened his eyes.

"What do you want with me? Isn't it enough that he left me to die if I step out of this circle?" he said, quite terrified.

Madara narrowed his eyes. "Wait… you stay in that circle all the time? Like, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 30 days a month?" he asked.

The man stared at him, nodding silently, shaking his head frantically.

"So… you take care of your needs in there?" Geralt couldn't help but ask from the side, with that curious yet straightforward manner.

Madara laughed at that. "Is that your only concern? I didn't know you had a sense of humor," Madara commented, finding it amusing.

"Well, I'm just curious," Geralt assured him.

The man looked embarrassed. "Well… I have colleagues who help me. They bring food and also a chamber pot. Anyway, are you after Gaunter? Because, do you have any idea what you're getting yourselves into?" he muttered carefully, analyzing the two of them. He knew there was a witcher there, and the other man had a peculiar appearance.

"Well, I know exactly what I'm getting into. I ended up destroying his body a few months ago when he tried to force a contract on me. I crushed his body. Blood exploded everywhere," Madara said, leaving the man speechless.

Geralt sighed but did not contradict him. He wasn't lying. The spirit had still escaped, saying they wouldn't be rid of him so easily.

"That's why we're chasing him before he fully recovers," Madara added.

"What you just said is rather absurd, sir. Do you really expect me to believe you dealt with that reincarnation of evil so easily?" the man clearly didn't believe it.

Madara snorted. Then he activated his Sharingan and made the man enter his memories, transferring to him the vision of when he grabbed Gaunter with one of the first forms of Susanoo and crushed him before his eyes.

The man blinked and was already back in the same place, staring at Madara in shock, as if he had seen Gaunter himself.

"You… I've heard about you."

"Yes, yes. Everyone's heard about him," Geralt grumbled, already wanting to cut off the sudden expression people always had about Madara. "Now you know that, at my side, there is someone far more dangerous than the demon tormenting you."

Geralt was tired of the speeches and the fear that always arose whenever someone identified who Madara was, remembering the war and what he had done, or the stories. For the professor, the vision of the giant crushing Gaunter brought back tales of the man who could summon creatures in small and colossal forms.

"Anyway, you don't need to say anything," Madara said.

He simply activated his Sharingan and began rummaging through all of the man's memories, taking everything he found important.

The man blinked, feeling a little dizzy, and Madara turned to Geralt.

"His name is Premethine Shakeslock, he's a professor who got in over his head trying to investigate the demon, this one doesn't seem to like busybodies very much. He's in a bad situation. Gaunter cast a curse. If he leaves the circle, he dies. Not even you can break that curse," Madara said.

"What are you going to do?" Geralt asked.

"I could even try speaking with the goddess Melitele, she might be able to remove the curse... maybe, but I believe taking him there could alert Gaunter. I wouldn't want him to have any information about Ciri's location. That's why I'll try another way," he said, beginning to take a few steps.

"Wait?! You talked about speaking with a goddess?!" Geralt looked at Madara as if he had two heads.

"It wouldn't be the first time I've spoken to her, just so you know, your adoptive mother was instructed to take me to her statue," Madara explained calmly.

He then looked at Geralt. "Step back."

Geralt did as he was told, while Madara stared at the man in front of him.

"Let's begin," he said quickly, starting to form a series of hand seals.

The man didn't understand anything of what he was doing with his hands at such high speed, until Madara completed the seals. Suddenly, an aura began to manifest behind him, at his back and above his head. The energy began to grow, swirling in a white form until it created the silhouette of a horrifying creature, with purple skin, a cloak, and white hair. It had two horns, a kind of rosary in one hand and a knife in the other. There was a soul clutched to its chest, trapped in human form.

The creature had a clearly demonic appearance, and both Geralt and Professor Premethine Shakeslock were disturbed by it.

Madara had created the Shinigami jutsu, but with the knowledge of the Madara from the original world, he had ways to use it without needing to give his soul in exchange.

"Let's begin," Madara said again.

He cast the Sharingan on the man, since he was about to run away after seeing the Shinigami. He certainly hadn't taken it well. Even Geralt was watching with a tense expression, as if Madara were meddling with something he shouldn't, but he didn't interfere.

The Shinigami was not exactly… presentable.

Madara formed a few more hand seals and struck the ground, activating a circle around the man with fūinjutsu.

The Shinigami finally reacted. It approached the man without Madara moving at all, only the figure leaning forward toward where the man stood, paralyzed. The Shinigami grabbed the top of his head as if using pincers. Then it pulled out a blue aura: the man's very soul began to leave his body, rising completely. There was still a small thread connecting it to the body. If that thread were cut, he would die, as his soul would not be able to return.

"That's his soul…" Geralt murmured, disturbed as he watched the white creature holding the blue energy in the shape of the man himself.

He could see something within the soul: a red mark, Gaunter's mark. It was embedded directly into the man's soul.

The Shinigami opened its mouth and began to draw in air. The mark itself started to break apart into particles, being sucked into the creature's mouth. Little by little, the mark was completely torn away until it vanished, while the Shinigami devoured the curse.

Obviously, summoning it would not be free, so Madara offered part of his own curse as payment. The Shinigami devoured and swallowed it, while returning the soul to the body, placing it back inside.

"Good. Release. Kai!" Madara formed the seal.

The Shinigami began to fade little by little until it disappeared completely. The man was still in shock when Madara freed him, and he simply collapsed to the floor, kneeling, exhausted, as if he had gone through a horrible sensation. And he truly had — his soul had left his body. Madara had conducted tests before, and they all showed the same terrible feeling of fatigue.

Geralt was speechless. He was surprised that Madara could still astonish him after everything he had already seen. It was not an experience he would normally witness, so he was deeply shaken.

The man barely had time to react when Madara grabbed him by the collar and pulled him up, throwing him out of the circle. He panicked, screaming the moment he realized he was falling.

"You took me out of the circle! Are you insane? I'm going to die!" he shouted, overcome with terror, as his back slammed into a cabinet, causing a 50-centimeter statue to fall beside him and shatter on the floor into pieces.

"If you were about to die right now, you idiot, that statue would've fallen on your head," Madara mocked.

The man looked at the broken statue, then at Madara, and then all around. Nothing was happening. No cracks, no sign that something would fall on him to kill him.

There was nothing.

"What happened?" he murmured.

"I managed to remove the curse from your soul, it was holding the demon's curse, it wasn't physically visible, that's why it couldn't be treated," Geralt replied.

The man looked dazed at the witcher, then at Madara.

"I'm free? He's gone?"

"Yes. Anyway, you can live your life. I've already taken all the information you had about him. Now you're no longer marked by Gaunter. Soon, he will be destroyed, if that makes you feel any better," Madara said.

He then turned to Geralt. "Let's go."

Madara walked to the door and unlocked it, starting to leave, with the witcher right behind him. The man remained there, paralyzed, watching the door close. It seemed he still couldn't believe it and might stay there all night until he realized he truly wasn't about to die.

Madara looked up at the sky. "Would you like to go to the temple and meet everyone?" Madara asked.

Geralt nodded. It had been more than six months since he had seen Ciri and Yennefer.

Madara fell silent when he saw two people approaching them. They were two students walking along that side, a little away from the academy's main buildings.

The young woman held her books in her arms as if they were the most precious thing, while the other carried a bag. They soon noticed the two strangers and cast a surprised look — a large man with a sword and the other with a peculiar appearance.

Madara and Geralt ignored them, only giving a brief glance. The two students decided to pass by them in silence. The girl, however, did not take her eyes off Madara, watching him with interest.

She was Shani, the red-haired student with green eyes.

Madara knew her, and she wasn't looking at Geralt, whom she had not yet met, but directly at him, which made him slightly raise an eyebrow.

'It seems all of Geralt's love interests are changing,' Madara thought.

Well, Geralt was the protagonist there, after all.

Madara let the two leave his sight as they headed somewhere. He touched Geralt's shoulder.

"Wait! Is this going to make me as nauseous as a sorceress's portal?" he asked very carefully.

"No, you won't even feel that you teleported," Madara said calmly.

They then disappeared the next moment. When Geralt realized it, they were already in the middle of the temple courtyard.

"This truly is innovative," Geralt couldn't help but praise Madara's teleportation. He hadn't felt a thing.

"Wait here, I'll be right back," Madara replied, disappearing again.

He reappeared with Vesemir, who looked completely startled after being taken in the middle of his meal at Kaer Morhen.

"What are you doing?" Vesemir glared angrily at Madara, while he shrugged.

"I'm just speeding up a reunion," Madara said.

Vesemir was still staring at him irritably when he noticed Geralt there and then looked at himself, which made him greatly dislike his own clothing — the old witcher was in his pajamas, which made him growl at Madara.

To ease the witcher's embarrassment, Madara took an extra cloak and tossed it to him.

"Come on, let's talk to Yennefer and Ciri. I'll bring Triss and Mousesack as well," Madara said.

He appeared in Novigrad and woke Triss, who looked at him in surprise, asking if he had done what he planned. She didn't want to bring up the subject of the previous night.

"Everything's settled. I'm with Geralt and Vesemir at the temple of Melitele. I want to know if you'd like to come as well."

She looked at him and nodded. "Of course."

She quickly put on a dress and returned. Madara teleported her.

He then used his teleportation to Skellige and brought Mousesack.

He had made several teleports — from northern Redania to Oxford, Novigrad, and the temple of Melitele — with the last two being the most distant. One no less than across the other side of the continent, like Kaer Morhen, and another to Skellige. The fact that Madara was bringing people along did not shake him in the slightest, with the amount of chakra he possessed at that moment.

While Madara left Olgierd speaking with his wife, he brought everyone together at the temple of Melitele, shortly before Ciri went into labor.
