From the tips of Tamaki's fingers, multiple massive tentacles burst forward at terrifying speed, each one thick and powerful enough to crush stone. The students saw the attack coming and instantly reacted, trying to dodge or counterattack with their own Quirks. However, the sheer size, reach, and overwhelming force behind Tamaki's attack made it almost impossible for them to properly evade.
The tentacles covered too much ground, striking from different angles at once, leaving the students with barely any room to maneuver.
In a single exchange, they were completely overwhelmed.
Tamaki, despite his timid personality, was not gentle when it came to combat. That habit had been deeply ingrained into him after years of constantly fighting alongside his three teammates. Against monsters like Mirio, Nejire, and Raiden, holding back too much was the same as losing instantly. Because of that, even while restraining himself now, his standards were far too high for first-year students.
The giant tentacles struck the students and sent them flying backwards across the training ground toward the massive artificial boulders scattered around the arena.
The teachers immediately tensed.
Some of the first years even gasped in shock seeing how brutal the counterattack had been.
Raiden clicked his tongue when he noticed the trajectory of the students and instantly transformed into Mewtwo in a flash of psychic light. In the next second, his eyes glowed bright blue and all of the launched students suddenly stopped midair before crashing against the rocks.
Without his intervention, some of them could have gotten seriously injured.
The students slowly floated down to the ground safely, while several teachers released the breath they had unconsciously been holding. Right after that, many of them turned toward Tamaki with questioning looks.
Tamaki immediately realized what he had done and lowered his head in embarrassment before making a small reverence in apology.
"I-I'm sorry…" muttered Tamaki quietly under his hoodie.
Mirio burst into laughter from the side while Nejire tried to hide her own giggles, and even Raiden shook his head with amusement.
"Too much force again," said Mewtwo casually as he returned to his human form.
After that overwhelming display, none of the students who had doubted Tamaki dared to say another word. Not even Monoma or Yaoyorozu, who had been the first to question whether he was suited to teach them.
They still had no idea if Tamaki would be a good mentor or not, but one thing had become painfully clear.
Timid or not, Suneater was absurdly strong.
Without wasting more time, Eraser Head continued the introductions in his usual calm tone.
"Next, the following students: Kaminari Denki, Aoyama Yuga, Mina Ashido, and Fumikage Tokoyami from Class 1-A. In addition, Setsuna Tokage from Class 1-B. We believe your Quirks align quite well with Nejire-chan's abilities and experience."
At that moment, Nejire immediately stepped forward with a bright and cheerful smile, waving excitedly at the group as if she had been waiting the entire time for her turn.
"Hello everyone, I'm Nejire Hado," exclaimed Nejire cheerfully as she stepped forward with a bright smile full of energy. "I hope we get along well. I will do my best to teach all of you everything you need to know about fighting, movement, and controlling your Quirks properly. Also, the same as Tamaki-kun, if someone has doubts about my experience, you can challenge me. There's no problem with that at all."
As she spoke, her long blue hair floated slightly behind her because of the energy naturally leaking from her body, giving her an oddly mystical appearance. Combined with the constant smile on her face and the confidence in her posture, it was hard to tell if she was being friendly or subtly threatening them.
The selected students looked at each other for a moment.
After seeing Tamaki casually overwhelm his entire assigned group, none of them were eager to test another one of the so-called Yonkous. What's more, despite Nejire's cheerful demeanor, there was something strangely intimidating about her.
It was like standing in front of a natural disaster that happened to be smiling.
Seeing nobody answer, Nejire puffed her cheeks into a pout before crossing her arms dramatically.
"Well, well, later we will do a couple of exercises," she exclaimed before spinning gracefully on her heel and returning beside the others.
"Next," spoke Eraser Head without wasting time, "Mirio Togata."
As his name was called, Mirio immediately stepped forward with a giant smile full of confidence and energy, almost shining under the lights of the training grounds.
"The students under his guidance will be Yosetsu Awase, Shihai Kuroiro, Juzo Honenuki, Tenya Iida, and Sen Kaibara."
The students in question stepped forward and nodded respectfully.
Unlike before, none of them dared to question Mirio immediately. Just from his physique alone, it was obvious he was absurdly powerful, and his confident posture made it even clearer that he fully trusted his own abilities.
However, before speaking, Mirio glanced toward Raiden, and both of them exchanged a quick nod.
They didn't say a single word, but somehow they completely understood each other.
That silent interaction did not escape the eyes of the teachers nearby, several of them raising an eyebrow with curiosity.
"Okay, now last," continued Aizawa calmly, "Raiden Tsurugi. For the characteristics and versatility of his Quirk, the students that will be under his tutoring will be Eijiro Kirishima, Reiko Yanagi, Katsuki Bakugo, Ochako Uraraka, and Tooru Hagakure."
The moment their names were called, the students stepped forward.
Bakugo, however, looked directly at Raiden—more specifically, at Mewtwo—with clear contempt still visible in his eyes.
This time though, he did not challenge him.
There was no point.
Bakugo already knew firsthand just how overwhelming the older student was.
Still, despite his hostility, a part of him strangely accepted the situation. In his own twisted way, he considered being assigned under the strongest student in U.A almost like recognition of his own potential.
To Bakugo, Mewtwo was simply another wall standing in front of him.
Another obstacle to surpass.
And until he crushed that obstacle, learning under him was acceptable.
"Now, the rest of the students," continued Eraser Head, "you will be under the guidance of the teachers. Each one of you will be assigned according to Quirk compatibility and specialization. First with me: Hanta Sero, Tsuyu Asui…"
One after another, the remaining students were assigned to different teachers and mentors according to the nature of their abilities.
This whole internal mentorship system had only appeared because of the incidents of the last two years. Crime rates had risen dramatically, villains had become increasingly dangerous, and society itself was growing unstable.
Because of that, U.A had decided on one thing.
The students needed to become stronger earlier than before.
After the students were assigned to their mentors, each group headed toward different training grounds spread across the enormous U.A campus.
When Mewtwo arrived at the training area prepared for his group, the new students looked at each other uncertainly. The field itself was massive, filled with broken terrain, metallic structures, giant rocks, and different obstacles meant to simulate urban combat situations.
Mewtwo slowly floated a couple of meters above the ground, crossing his legs in the air as if gravity meant absolutely nothing to him.
"Okay," he began calmly, his voice echoing naturally across the training ground, "I know most of you already because of the files and because I saw the entrance exam, but let me introduce myself properly again. I'm Raiden Tsurugi, alias Mewtwo. You can use whichever of the two you prefer."
The students stayed silent, paying full attention to him.
"I will guide the development of your Quirks, help improve the way you use them, and also point all of you toward some forms of basic training. Because not everything is about Quirks."
As he said that, his eyes moved from one student to another.
"The body is just as important. A weak body can ruin a strong Quirk."
Bakugo frowned slightly hearing that, while Midoriya's words from before crossed his mind.
"For now," continued Mewtwo, "I want to test the usage of your Quirks as they currently are. I need to know your level first before deciding how to train each one of you."
And then… he simply stopped talking.
He remained floating there silently in the air without giving any further instructions.
The others immediately looked at each other in confusion.
However, there was one person who understood instantly.
Bakugo.
Without hesitation, the blonde boy launched himself forward like a rocket explosion, propelling his body violently through the air toward Mewtwo.
This time though, the moment Bakugo felt the pressure of Mewtwo's telekinesis trying to grab him, he immediately reacted differently than before.
Using explosions from both hands, he forcefully changed direction midair, spinning to the side and avoiding the invisible psychic grasp before it could fully restrain him.
His combat instincts had clearly improved.
Spinning through the air, Bakugo pushed himself forward again and rushed straight toward Mewtwo's face with another explosion.
However, Mewtwo didn't move from his position at all.
Instead, his tail suddenly glowed bright white.
Iron Tail.
The powerful strike intercepted Bakugo's attack directly.
At that moment, Bakugo unleashed one of his strongest explosions with both hands at point-blank range, trying not only to block the counter but also force Mewtwo backward.
The explosion roared across the field, smoke and heat expanding outward.
Yet when the smoke cleared, Mewtwo had not moved even an inch.
Bakugo, however, was pushed backward through the air.
Still… this time he did not get thrown away helplessly like before.
He managed to stabilize himself and land properly.
Mewtwo's eyes narrowed slightly with interest.
"Oh?" he exclaimed. "Good. You're getting better than before."
Then his gaze shifted toward the others.
"Now the rest," his telepathic voice echoed directly through their minds, "what are you waiting for? Follow the kid's example."
The sudden mental communication startled several of them, and once again they looked at each other uncertainly before finally deciding to attack.
Reiko moved first.
Using her Quirk, she separated parts of her body and launched multiple floating strikes toward Mewtwo from different angles.
However, every single piece froze midair before even getting close to him, suspended motionless by telekinetic force.
At the same time, Uraraka activated her Quirk and made herself weightless before launching into the air, trying to drop directly onto Mewtwo from above with gravity-assisted momentum.
But just like Reiko, she suddenly stopped midair.
Even after deactivating her Quirk, she remained floating helplessly in place.
On the other side, Kirishima hardened his body and rushed forward directly.
Unlike the others, he chose pure frontal assault.
Unfortunately for him, that approach worked even worse.
The moment he entered Mewtwo's range, an invisible force struck him and launched him backward across the field.
Lastly, Tooru attempted the exact same strategy she had used during the entrance exam.
She turned invisible and tried sneaking closer without being noticed.
However, she barely managed to take a few silent steps before an invisible pressure smashed her gently but firmly against the ground, completely restraining her.
After seeing all of them use their powers, Mewtwo sighed softly.
"Well," he muttered, "I guess everyone starts the same way."
Slowly descending until his feet touched the ground, he looked at the group with calm eyes.
"See, guys, all of you have potential. Real potential."
His tone became slightly more serious.
"But right now, none of you have reached even a proper use of your powers yet. So we'll work on that first."
Then he crossed his arms.
"Also, all of you will begin physical training to increase your base strength. After that…"
A small smile appeared on his face.
"…all of you will try to force your Quirks to evolve."
