Chapter 65 - 65. Adventurers and Sentinels

Armaros and Fanah could feel the knights coming towards their location and it was easier for him to feel their approach. So he created a sort of shell around the demonic and divine armaments using his mana after he made sure that they won't clash and cause any problems for him when he is trying to hide their presence inside of him.

He had already discussed it with Fanah beforehand so she was already seated a few paces beside him as they both looked at the direction where they can feel the energy of more than a dozen people, powerful people considering what they can sense.

'Yep. I can't beat them. The only chance I have is with the divine and demonic weapons but there is no guarantee that they won't also have special weapons in their hands. Best to play it safe.' Armaros thought to himself as he let out a tired breath.

He didn't want to deal with the bullshit of any factions at the moment, especially after such a dangerous mission had been completed just yesterday. Alas, the world rarely worked in his favour and so he had to take precautions to make sure that they won't find about the weapons inside of him, he still doesn't fully understand how that works to be honest, regardless he just wants the secret to remain a secret.

Fanah herself felt quite nervous at the thought of the Sentinels coming towards them, and also fear at the thought of fighting against them, as they are the greatest knights of the Church of the God of light. Even if she was a former knight and a powerful one at that, she doesn't believe that she would be able to take on a lot of these knights alone.

After all, the only knights that she is certain to be deployed to retrieve the divine weapon would be the Sentinels, and they are the strongest of the military force of the Church. And considering the fact that she is not as strong as she was in the past and there are a lot of them, they would be slaughtered if they tried to fight.

Which was also why she was glad that her master was not planning on fighting them, but was still nervous about them. If they had any indication that he has the divine weapon inside of him, there is no guarantee as to how they would act.

But considering the importance and power of such a weapon, they would either take it by force since he isn't able to actually control it, or they will take him with them to the church if they managed to learn about it. That still didn't change the fact that she felt quite nervous about it and had her sword on the ground beside her in case it ended in a fight. She might not win, but she won't go down without a fight at the very least, she is a knight still, no matter what the arrogant nobles had said about her.

"I know you're nervous Fanah, but don't give them any reason to become hostile." Armaros said to her as he looked at her.

"It's going to be quite hard to do that with all those warriors, lord Agares." Fanah said to him with nervousness.

"I know. But we can't win this, not with the amount of them that have appeared." Armaros said as he also looked at his own sword that was on the ground beside him.

She nodded at that as the two relaxed a bit, but were still ready to fight at a moments notice. And they can feel them being only a dozen paces away from them and it made them more nervous, but they looked at the direction and got up, not to mention the klinking of armor as the group came into view as the two looked at them with swords in hand, but in a relaxed manner that was easy to discern for the Sentinels.

Harran who was at the front of the group had already known about the two, it was impossible for the two groups to not notice each other. And he had made sure to look at the two of them, and it was clear to him that these two are strong fighters, even if the woman only has one arm and the boy is young.

But there was no mistaking the armaments of the two, while it is faint, he can't feel the difference between some of the armors and their swords. It's not that difficult to know that the blood of the Ogre has made their weapons stronger. But that wasn't the important thing, as it just meant that they found the ones they were searching for.

Harran and the knights came to a stop as they looked at the boy and woman as he stepped forward to talk with them. He had of course noticed their stances but didn't say anything about that.

'Hmm, ready with their weapons, they at least have good senses.' Harran thought to himself as he looked at them.

"Greetings, I am one of the commanders of the Church of the God of Light, Harran of the Sentinels. Are you two the adventurers Agares and Fanah? The ones who defeated an Ogre yesterday?" Harran asked as he looked at the boy.

"We are. Why would the Sentinels, the highest group of knights in the Church, come here?" Armaros asked the man as he hid his nervousness.

"We needed information regarding what had happened yesterday. Did anything unusual happen when and after you fought the Ogre?" Harran asked them while using his magic to scan them.

"No. We had gone there due to our quest, but we didn't expect an Ogre to be there. We managed to defeat it because it underestimated us, otherwise we might be dead." Armaros said to the man.

"I see. What about the temple?" Harran asked him again while he looked at the two of them.

'It doesn't look like he is lying, and the spell also isn't getting anything.' Harran thought to himself as he looked at them.

"We found the temple after exploring to see if there is anything else in there after a bit of rest. There we found the statue, but other than that, it wasn't anything unusual." Armaros said to the knight seriously.

Harran narrowed his eyes at that, and remembered the details about the place that he had gotten from the guild master.

"Did you break the statue or was it broken before you found it?" Harran asked him as Fanah stood at the side, nervous as she looked at her master and the Sentinels.

"The statue was already broken when we reached the room it was housed, however it seemed that it had some magic in it as it attacked us, but we destroyed it." Armaros said to the commander seriously.

'Hmm, nothing.' Harran thought to himself as he looked at the boy.

"I see. I have sent some knights to check the place. But let us check the two of you. The Ogre is a remnant of the demonic war, we need to make sure that you weren't cursed by the Ogre or such." Harran said to them as one of the knights stepped forward.

"Of course." Armaros said as he nodded.

Fanah also relaxed but gulped as she saw the knights, knowing that being docile is the best choice right now. However the two of them were nervous, as the chance of the divine weapon being discovered is much higher in such a situation.

Harran signalled for his comrade to use the magic as they nodded and went to Fanah and used the magic as a golden magic circle appeared under her as she was scanned by it. The commander himself looked at Armaros and then used the same spell as the magic circle appeared under him and scanned him as he looked troubled, which wasn't a surprise to the man as it is a normal reaction to being put under a magic like this.

Armaros was hoping and praying that he won't be found out by the knight, and he seriously hoped that the divine weapons inside of him won't rampage or do anything that might jeopardize him. He just hopes that his preparations before hand would work as he seconds passed, though he also worried about Fanah as this would also reveal the slave mark on her.

It wasn't like slaves were illegal in this world, but he didn't know how the Church would react to it. However, since this is the Sentinels, they might not care and he was hoping on the fact that they won't care about something like that and he won't have any additional problems from it.

The two stood silently as they were scanned by the knights, and then the magic circles disappeared as the knights looked at each other and nodded. The knight then went back to stand with the rest while Harran looked at Armaros, his eyes hidden behind his helmet.

"It would seem that you two have managed to come out unscathed from the temple. The both of you are safe. May the God of Light grant you a great day." Harran said to them and his group also parroted it.

"May the God of Light grant you a great day." Armaros and Fanah returned the greeting as they bowed their heads at the Sentinels.

The Sentinels nodded and then marched away the way they came, though Harran did look back at the two for a few seconds before they looked ahead and the rest of the group walked away, formulating more plans to check the entire area for any trace of divine power.

'Hmm, this might take longer than I had thought.' Harran thought to himself as he walked with his soldiers.

Armaros and Fanah watched them go and stayed standing for a minute, their nerves calming down slightly as they were both tense after the meeting with the Sentinels, however brief it may have been. But soon the two relaxed their bodies and kneeled on the ground and let out shaky breaths as they were relieved that the knights had left them alone.

"Th-They're gone." Fanah said in a tone of disbelief.

"Y-Yeah. They are." Armaros said as he took in shaky breaths and gulped.

"They won't come back right?" Fanah asked as she didn't feel them anymore, just faintly a lot of grounds away from their location.

"It doesn't seem so. We're safe for now. We should get some rest." Armaros said to her as she nodded.

They needed it, especially after that tense moment which tested their nerves, as they had managed to trick the highest order of knights of the Church into thinking that they are harmless and not the ones they were looking for, and it was a blessing that they did.

The other option was not one they fancied even a bit. And so with relief and hope in their hearts, the two of them sat on the grass on the ground and decided to rest from the tense and dangerous moment they were in.

'I really can't relax can I?' Armaros thought to himself as he palmed his face and groaned in frustration.
