I felt my eyes twitch a little as my lids were pried open. I woke to a familiar ceiling, a familiar room, in a familiar bed. In an instant, I realized where I was.
My sister's room. Aimi's room.
Maybe it was in this room that I had that strange dream. But right after that thought, two questions formed in my mind.
What was I doing in my sister's room?
And why had I slept in her bed?
I placed a hand on my head and tried to think through the fog.
Part of me still carried a sense of disbelief, so I got out of bed and walked to the window. If anything could confirm the situation, it would be what lay outside.
I pulled the curtains open and looked out.
"Yup. Same old yard, same old neighborhood."
The moment I said it, I noticed the sound of my own voice.
I could speak now.
Oh, right. Of course I could speak. It made sense that I could speak. It had just been a dream after all.
But then another realization hit me.
The voice itself.
