Chapter 64 - Sussy Mundus

With a sudden, brilliant flash of golden light, the ambient noise of the Fairy Tail guild hall vanished, replaced instantly by the weightless, shimmering expanse of the Celestial Spirit Realm. Floating islands hovered serenely beneath a deep indigo sky, illuminated by swirling, distant galaxies.

Rudra took a slow breath, letting his eyes wander across the ethereal landscape. He opened his mouth to make a dry joke about the decor, but his words were swallowed by a deep, resonant voice that vibrated through the floorboards beneath his boots.

"You have arrived... last kin of Sparda."

Rudra turned casually on his heel, resting a hand on his hip as he looked up. Looming over him was the gargantuan frame of the Celestial Spirit King, his armored visage radiating ancient authority.

"So," Rudra drawled, his tone entirely devoid of reverence as he met the entity's gaze. "What's the deal, old man?"

The Spirit King ignored the disrespect, shifting his vast gaze to the spirit standing beside the half-demon. "Leave us, Regulus."

Loke gave a crisp nod. "As you wish, Your Majesty." With a snap of his fingers, he dissolved into fading starlight.

Without another word, the Spirit King gestured for Rudra to follow him toward a grand pavilion. Set beneath glowing trees stood a massive carved stone table. The Spirit King took his seat at the head, motioning for Rudra to sit across from him.

Rudra pulled out a chair and slouched into it. The monarch brought his massive hands together in a single, loud clap. In an instant, a dozen faint spirits manifested, carrying silver platters laden with shimmering celestial dishes. They placed the feast across the table with lightning speed and vanished into the ether immediately after.

Yet, neither host nor guest touched the food. For a long, heavy moment, they remained locked in an unyielding stare across the vast table. Neither blinked; neither gave an inch.

The oppressive silence was finally broken by the Spirit King's booming voice. "Aren't you going to eat, young Sparda? The fruits of this realm are famed for restoring both soul and vigor."

Rudra leaned back in his chair, crossing his arms with a faint smirk. "My mom always taught me never to take food from strangers. Especially enormous, glowing ones hanging out in the clouds. I'll pass on the catering, thanks."

The Spirit King didn't look offended. He simply watched the young man with solemn eyes, reading the guarded tension in his frame.

Rudra's smirk gradually faded. His posture straightened, and his right hand drifted casually toward the pommel of his sword. "Let's save us both some time and skip the grand hospitality. Why was I dragged all the way up here? What does the ruler of spirits want with me?"

"I require a favor," the Spirit King replied, his voice dropping an octave, heavy enough to vibrate the table between them. "I need you to protect Lucy Heartfilia. Her, and every Celestial Mage who holds a gate to this realm."

Rudra opened his mouth to fire off a barrage of questions—Why her? Why now? What makes you think I'm a babysitter?—but the Spirit King raised a colossal, glowing hand, cutting him off.

"Hold your tongue for a moment, Rudra," the King requested firmly. "Allow me to explain the reality of the threat."

Rudra clicked his tongue and muttered a low curse, but nodded for the monarch to proceed.

"For months, dark forces have been quietly breaching the borders of the Spirit Realm," the Spirit King explained, his golden gaze darkening. "Demons. They are hunting for the locations of the Golden Keys and the mages who wield them. I do not yet know their full intent, but I know who moves them from the shadows."

The Spirit King leaned forward, casting a heavy shadow over the young warrior.

"Mundus," the King declared, the name hanging in the celestial air like a curse. "His attempt to acquire Yamato and Rebellion ended in absolute failure. But a creature like him does not simply retreat into the dark. Whatever nightmare he is crafting now, this search for the celestial keys is the next stage."

The giant monarch looked down directly at him. "Which brings me back to my request. Can I count on you to keep them safe?"

Rudra closed his eyes and let out a long sigh, pinching the bridge of his nose. "That bastard Mundus... he just never knows when to quit, huh."

When his eyes snapped open, his casual annoyance was gone, replaced by a sharp, lethal intensity. "Fine. Consider me in. I want to see what that son of a bitch is scheming anyway."

The Spirit King nodded in quiet satisfaction and brought his massive hands together in a single, resounding clap. In a burst of golden light, Loke materialized beside them, bowing to his master.

"Are Lucy and her friends still within the realm?" the Spirit King asked.

"They just departed a moment ago, Your Majesty," Loke answered, adjusting his glasses. "Back to the human world."

"Understood," the King said, gesturing toward the spirit. "Regulus, take the descendant of Sparda to Lucy's location immediately."

"If you would follow me, Rudra," Loke said, extending a glowing hand.

Rudra gave the giant ruler one final, tacit look before stepping up to Loke. With a flash of blinding radiance, the two vanished from the celestial garden.

Silence returned to the paradise, though the heavy tension lingered. A faint light flickered beside the throne as another spirit manifested in the quiet clearing.

"Your Majesty..." the spirit voiced hesitantly. "Is it truly wise to place such trust in a child of Sparda? Their bloodline carries as much ruin as it does salvation."

The Spirit King didn't answer immediately. He simply stared up at the infinite starry expanse, the weight of centuries pressing down on his shoulders.

Deep down, he didn't know. The last time the Spirit Realm had reached out to that bloodline for aid, the consequences had nearly brought their entire world to absolute ruin.

Meanwhile, back in the mortal realm, the atmosphere was a far cry from solemn—at least, until reality hit.

Having spent what felt like a single day partying in the Celestial Spirit World, the Fairy Tail core—Lucy, Natsu, Gray, Erza, Wendy, Happy, and Carla—stepped back onto the sandy shores of their training grounds, still high on laughter, fine food, and spirit realm festivities.

Then the horrifying truth smashed into them.

Time in the spirit realm didn't sync with the human world. A single day of drinking and dancing with celestial spirits had cost them three entire months. Three critical, irrecoverable months of training.

With only a few days remaining before the Grand Magic Games, panic and despair settled like a suffocating fog.

"I can't—I cannot believe this!" Gray groaned, slamming his fists into his temples as he collapsed onto his knees. "Three months! Gone! We were supposed to be sharpening our magic, not throwing a damn party!"

"Lucy, your spirits completely ruined us!" Natsu yelled, stomping his feet into the sand and pulling at his pink hair. "They lied to us!"

"I didn't know!" Lucy squeaked, shrinking back under the barrage of glares. She cringed, muttering a string of desperate curses at her own key summons. "How was I supposed to know the time dilation was that bad?!"

"Panicking won't return the lost days," Erza said, though her own jaw was tightly set, her posture stiff with suppressed tension. She pulled out a small parchment, holding up the letter they had just received from a carrier pigeon. "This message instructs us to head to the top of this hill. We move forward."

Lamenting their ruined schedule, the group dragged their feet toward the winding path, their loud complaints echoing over the cliffs. They were halfway up when the air above them fractured, surging with a blinding, golden radiance.

The wizards halted mid-rant, shielding their eyes. As the glare softened, two figures materialized on the grassy slope: Loke, wearing his usual suave charm, and Rudra, looking entirely unbothered.

"Yo," Loke greeted smoothly, adjusting his sunglasses.

The group stared in stunned silence. Loke turned toward Lucy, offering a casual wave. "My job was just to drop him off. I'll take my leave now, Princess," he said, vanishing back into the Celestial Realm before anyone could press him for details.

That left Rudra standing alone before the bewildered guild.

"Rudra?" Lucy blinked, rubbing her eyes. "What are you doing here? And why were you with Loke?"

"Long story," Rudra replied, stretching until his joints popped. He let out a lazy breath, looking straight at her. "As for why I'm here... it's because of you."

"Me?" Lucy echoed, pointing to herself while Natsu and Gray exchanged suspicious looks.

Rudra sighed, scratching his neck. "Some bitch is orchestrating something nasty behind the scenes. Because of that, the Celestial Spirit King personally asked me to keep an eye on you."

Lucy's eyebrows furrowed. "The Spirit King? But we were literally just at his party! Why wouldn't he tell me?"

"Because it's way out of your league right now," Rudra said flatly. "He didn't want to ruin your little party or dump a threat on you that you aren't equipped to handle yet."

A heavy silence fell over the path.

Erza stepped forward, her dark eyes locking onto Rudra with piercing intensity, all traces of her earlier panic vanishing. "Is it similar to what happened at the capital?" she asked softly, her voice laced with a dangerous edge.

Rudra turned his gaze toward the Scarlet Queen, simply shrugging his shoulders. "Don't know," he said casually.

Despite his noncommittal answer, Erza's expression instantly darkened. Her jaw tightened and her hands clenched into tight fists at her sides, intuition telling her everything she needed to know about the gravity of the threat.

Turning back to a bewildered Lucy, Rudra snapped back to his usual tone. "So, congratulations. For the next few weeks, I'm your shadow. Wherever you go, I go."

"Everywhere?" Lucy repeated, her eyes widening in apprehension.

"Everywhere," Rudra confirmed smoothly.

"Wait a second! What about places where I actually need privacy?" Lucy demanded, her cheeks flushing. "Like... the bathroom? Or the shower?!"

"Well, strictly speaking, no," Rudra replied, a sudden, playful smirk breaking across his face. "But hey, if you're offering, I'm not gonna be rude and refuse an invitation."

Lucy's face flushed a furious, brilliant red. "Nobody is offering, okay?!" she squeaked, stepping forward and punching him square on the shoulder.

Rudra barely absorbed the hit, chuckling as he casually rolled his shoulder back into place. He turned his attention to the rest of the group. "So, where were you guys dragging yourselves to anyway?"

"Someone sent a pigeon with a note," Wendy explained softly, pointing up the winding trail. "They asked us to meet them at the top of the hill. That's where we were heading before you arrived."

"Alright then," Rudra said, gesturing toward the summit. "What are we standing around for? Lead the way."

The group resumed their trek, their initial panic over the Grand Magic Games temporarily pushed into the background by the arrival of a new, unsettling mystery. As they walked, Erza lingered slightly behind the main pack.

Every few moments, her eyes flicked over her shoulder toward Rudra.

He was trailing silently at the rear, the teasing smirk completely gone from his face. His eyes were fixed on the dusty path ahead, narrowed in dark concentration as he remained lost in thought about the storm brewing on the horizon.
