[Ace's POV]
The cage's energy hit me before I saw it.
It was a wrongness in the air—a pressure against my fur, against my skin, against something deeper than either. The black-glowing bars pulsed with dark magic, each thrum sending waves of nausea through me. My wolf snarled and retreated, pressing against the walls of my consciousness like a pup backing away from flame. The energy clung to the air like the stench of rotting flesh—sweet and sick and utterly wrong.
Witch-work, my wolf hissed. Abomination.
I forced myself forward anyway.
