Since this shopkeeper does not admit to having visited these shops, if Ye Shikai really finds grain, he cannot claim that the grain stored here was his. But if he admits, it would be tantamount to confessing to hoarding for profiteering, selling grain at high prices, and seeking huge profits, which is a capital crime in Qin Country.
Likewise, Ye Shikai is also very certain that something is hidden here. First, there is no dust on the outer door, but the walls and eaves are covered with cobwebs, indicating that the place is indeed abandoned, yet frequently accessed. Secondly, although there is a lot of dust in the house, the dust is covered with numerous footprints, which upon careful observation can be seen. This is located at the market where many people walk around, and if someone was coming and going, it would undoubtedly attract attention. Ye Shikai assumes they must have sneaked in to store grain during the curfew when no one is around.
