Yui forced himself onto one elbow.
The man carrying Vincent glanced back at him before boarding the aircraft. Calm eyes. Clean movements. No hurry beyond what the situation required.
A small black orb formed over the man's palm. Yui braced for another hit. The orb floated in front of his face and held there. Yui could not tell whether it watched, measured, or threatened. The worst part was that Silas looked almost bored while using it, like the black sphere was not a weapon so much as a tool he had already tested too many times to find interesting. It did not explode. It did not burn. It simply watched him with a pressure Yui could feel behind his eyes. The woman at the hatch called back.
"Silas, we have minutes before the full response arrives, and I would rather not trade bodies with a fleet."
Silas sighed like the ruined deck disappointed him. "I know Vincent wasted more people than I expected, and that is regrettable."
