The ambulance arrived shortly after, its flashing lights illuminating the damaged façade of the house. Katrina's body was carefully placed on a stretcher and covered with a white sheet. Klaus remained seated on the ground, knees pulled up to his chest, staring blankly into space, as if the world had stopped turning. Gale, Ray, and Isabella tried to comfort him, placing a hand on his shoulder or murmuring soothing words, but nothing seemed to reach him.
Diana and Marlie calmly answered the police's questions, while Kira and Alix discreetly used their powers to maintain the illusion of an intact house. Axel, Eiden, and Bryan had gone to give a detailed report to the elders about the attack.
Asher would have liked to accompany them, but he stayed to support Miria. When she had discovered her mother's lifeless body, she had been devastated. She had locked herself in her room, refusing to see anyone. Léana, for her part, had simply disappeared in the confusion.
A few hours later, at her home, Léana paced back and forth, a strange smile on her lips.
"Katrina is dead… That means Klaus will finally come back to me!"
Her eyes lit up for a moment, but a sharp pain pierced her heart. She staggered, placing a hand on her chest.
*Why does it hurt?* she thought. *I finally have Klaus all to myself… But I never wanted her dead. It wasn't me who killed her… She stepped in front of me on her own. I didn't ask her to…*
She tried to reassure herself, but the doubt lingered, heavy and bitter.
