Chapter 449 - [Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix Release] (1)

….

[LIE Studios]

Regal Seraphsail stood at the head of the obsidian conference table.

The digital projection screens illuminating the walls were no longer displaying marketing schedules or press tour flight paths.

They were displaying real-time global box office actuals.

Samantha, Simon, and Rock were all present, their eyes glued to the refreshing numbers.

The promotional strategy had worked flawlessly.

The traditional media appearances had reassured older audiences and parents, and the viral digital content had whipped the teenage demographic into a frenzy.

Lena Crawford's prestige interviews had secured critical acclaim, guaranteeing high Rotten Tomatoes scores and glowing reviews in the Sunday papers.

"The Thursday night preview numbers from the domestic markets are finalized." Samantha said, her voice carrying a rare, breathless excitement.

Regal took a slow sip of his black coffee. "Read it."

"Thursday previews: $42.5 million." Samantha looked up, shaking her head. "That eclipses Goblet of Fire. But the real story is the Friday actuals."

Simon stepped forward, tapping his tablet. "With the native 3D premium ticket pricing factored in, and the sheer volume of sold-out IMAX screens... Friday grossed $81 million domestically. We are currently tracking for a $205 million domestic opening weekend."

"And internationally?" Regal asked quietly.

"Absolute domination." Simon grinned, leaning against the table. "The UK market treated this like a national holiday. Japan's numbers are astronomical, heavily driven by your ongoing goodwill in the region and the flawless subtitle translation. Worldwide, we are looking at a $450 million opening frame."

The room let out a collective, exhausted exhale.

They hadn't just successfully transitioned the franchise into its darker, more mature era. They had expanded its reach.

By trusting Lena Crawford, by leaning into the psychological thriller elements, and by running a multi-tiered, relentlessly modern marketing campaign, LIE Studios had proven that [Harry Potter] was completely bulletproof.

Regal turned toward the window, looking out over the sprawling studio lot. The California sun was setting, casting long, golden shadows across the soundstages.

His thoughts drifted to Daniel, Lily, and Rupert, now asleep in a luxury hotel in Tokyo after wrapping their final Asian press junket, while Lena Crawford was likely somewhere reading the reviews that had officially crowned her one of Hollywood's most visionary blockbuster directors.

"We give them the weekend to celebrate." Regal said softly, his voice cutting through the quiet hum of the war room.

Simon groaned playfully. "I know that tone. What happens on Monday?"

Regal turned back to his team, the sharp, calculating fire of a creator who already lived three steps in the future burning in his eyes.

"On Monday." Regal said, setting his coffee mug down with a definitive clack. "We start drafting the end of the world, so call the team because it's time to begin pre-production on [The Half-Blood Prince]."

[Los Angeles | AMC Century City 15]

The Release of [Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix], and the evening was energetic outside the massive glass doors of the cinema.

It felt like walking into a festival where the real world ended and something far more extraordinary began.

David Winters-

-was once again carrying a tray holding three large sodas and an absurdly large bucket of popcorn.

As a Senior Horror Systems Designer at LIE Gaming Studio, David spent his days dissecting fear.

He mapped out Dementor patrol routes, programmed tension mechanics for [Philosopher's Curse: The Hogwarts Experience].

But tonight, he wasn't a game developer, merely an uncle navigating a sea of cloaks, wands, and ecstatic fans.

"Uncle David, hurry! They're already letting people into IMAX Theater 3!"

Emma, now a sharp, perceptive thirteen-year-old, practically vibrated with excitement.

She was dressed in full Gryffindor colors, her scarf wrapped loosely around her neck despite the July heat.

But David's eyes softened as he looked past his niece to the girl walking quietly beside her.

Jenny Foster.

Two and a half years ago, Emma had sat in his car after the premiere of [Chamber of Secrets] and confessed that she had laughed when her classmates mocked 'Mad Jenny'.

The same girl who talked to herself, dressed like she belonged in a Renaissance fair, and drew dragons in her notebook.

That night, Emma had promised to sit beside her and be brave, just like Harry walking into the Chamber, and she had kept that promise.

Jenny was currently holding Emma's hand, her other arm clutching a thick, leather-bound sketchbook against her chest.

She wore a slightly oversized, hand-sewn cardigan embroidered with intricate stars and constellations, looking entirely unique as though she existed just slightly apart from the rest of the world.

But she wasn't an outcast anymore, because she was Emma's best friend, and whenever other kids whispered behind her back, Emma became the impenetrable wall that silenced them.

"We have plenty of time, Em." David said warmly, handing them their sodas. "The previews haven't even started."

Jenny looked up, her bright, observant eyes scanning the crowded lobby. "There are so many people…" she murmured, her voice soft and melodic. "It looks like a painting where everyone is moving."

"It's the biggest movie of the year, Jen." Emma said proudly, linking her arm through Jenny's. "And we have the absolute best seats."

As they moved toward the ticket checkpoint, a sudden, loud, and entirely organized commotion broke out near the promotional standees.

"Tyler, do not touch the Dementor cutout! It's structurally fragile!"

"I wasn't going to break it, Sophia! I was just testing the balance!"

"Well, test it with your eyes, not your hands. Marcus, tell him!"

David paused, a familiar ring to those names catching his attention.

He turned his head and spotted a cluster of six kids, all around Emma and Jenny's age, moving through the crowd with the synchronized chaos of a seasoned military unit.

It was the Helper Squad.

David instantly recognized Marcus Thompson as the boy who had written the viral letter offering his team's free labor to help LIE Studios finish [Goblet of Fire] and, along with his friends, had earned a permanent place in the franchise's special thanks credits.

James Thompson, Marcus's father, was trailing behind them with the exact same exhausted but fond expression David felt on his own face.

David caught James's eye and gave a knowing nod. James smiled, raising his coffee cup in a silent salute of parental solidarity.

Emma, noticing where her uncle was looking, gasped. "Is that the Helper Squad?"

Jenny tilted her head, observing the loud group. "They look very energetic."

"They're legends!!" Emma whispered reverently.

Before David could suggest they go say hello, Marcus, the unofficial leader of the squad, accidentally bumped into Jenny while trying to wrangle Tyler away from the snack counter.

Jenny's heavy sketchbook slipped from her grasp, landing on the carpet with a soft thud. It fell open, revealing a breathtaking, meticulously shaded charcoal drawing of the Hogwarts castle shrouded in storm clouds.

"Oh! Shoot, I am so sorry!" Marcus immediately dropped to his knees, grabbing the book.

He froze, his eyes widening as he stared at the drawing–

"Whoa... Did you draw this?"

Jenny blinked, shrinking back slightly behind Emma. "Yes."

Jake, the artist of the Helper Squad, peered over Marcus's shoulder. His jaw dropped. "Dude, the shading on the Astronomy Tower... How did you get the perspective so perfect? It looks like it's actually coming off the page."

Jenny's shoulders relaxed slightly, a tiny, hesitant smile touching her lips. "I... I use a cross-hatching technique for the shadows…. It gives it depth."

"It's incredible!" Marcus said, carefully handing the book back to her. "I am Marcus. This is Jake, Tyler, Sophia, Sam, and our Emma."

"I am Emma too." Emma grinned, immediately bridging the gap. "And this is Jenny. She is the best artist in our entire school."

"Nice to meet you." Jake said eagerly. "You have to sit near us. I need to see how you draw the Dementors after the movie."

The sheer, unfiltered acceptance of the famous Helper Squad made Jenny beam as she clutched her sketchbook, no longer using it as a shield but holding it like a badge of honor.

David watched the interaction with a profound warmth spreading through his chest, finally beginning to understand what Regal had always meant by building something greater than a film or a game, a community where art could bring people together.

"Alright, legends…" David chuckled, herding his girls forward. "Let's get inside before the magic starts without us."

….

The IMAX theater was cavernous, the screen curving around their peripheral vision like a massive window into another reality.

They settled into seats at the dead center of the theater, with the Helper Squad occupying the row directly behind them and keeping up a constant stream of excited chatter over the seatbacks.

"Sophia calculated the runtime." Sam informed Emma over the seat. "Two hours and eighteen minutes of pure anxiety."

"I brought extra tissues." Sam added, patting his pockets. "Just in case."

"We are not crying today, Sam." Tyler declared bravely. "We are fighting the Ministry."

Jenny pulled her 3D glasses from their plastic sleeve, turning them over in her hands.

"It's fascinating." she murmured to David. "In art, we use vanishing points to trick the brain into perceiving three dimensions, but here... the light itself actually occupies the space."

"You're in for a treat, Jen." David smiled, sliding his own glasses on.

The lights dimmed, and the theater's excited chatter vanished into a collective, breathless silence as the studio logos shimmered across the screen and the film began…
