Chapter 22 - Sudden Strike

Draven, sweat pouring down his face, said, "Sorry, I meant Hannah. Why don't you put the bow down first? Let's..."

He didn't get to finish his sentence before Hannah released an arrow.

The arrow shot straight toward his eye, but Draven quickly tilted his head to the side, dodging it. Even so, the arrow sliced through the air beside him, cutting off a strand of his white hair.

He immediately jumped backward, still holding his bow, putting some distance between himself and Hannah.

"Hey, are you trying to kill me?" Draven asked.

Hannah didn't answer. Instead, she drew her bow again, and another mana arrow materialized.

*Damn, is this brat actually trying to kill me?*

Outwardly, Draven maintained his composure.

"Hey, Hannah, I'm sorry for calling you a kid. Can you put the bow down first?"

Hannah released another arrow, sending it tearing through the air toward him.

Draven swiftly dodged it.

"Hey, kid, if you really want to kill me, you—"

He abruptly stopped speaking.

The arrow he'd just dodged hadn't disappeared into the distance. Instead, it suddenly changed direction, curving around and heading straight for his back.

Draven sensed it just in time.

*Damn, how can an arrow change direction in mid-flight?*

Holding his bow in his right hand, still wearing his gloves, Draven quickly twisted his body and reached out with his left hand, catching the arrow before it could hit him.

Hannah watched him catch it.

*He caught it.*

Draven turned to face her, holding the bow in his right hand and the arrow in his left. He squeezed the arrow, crushing it until it vanished.

"Hey, kid, I thought we were hitting it off," he said.

In her usual calm, quiet voice, Hannah replied, "I'm not a kid."

Draven's eyes widened.

"Wow, kid. I never thought you could actually speak."

Hannah drew her bow again.

"I'm not a kid."

"Yeah, yeah, yeah, I get it. You're not a kid. So, can you put the bow down now?" Draven asked.

Hannah answered by shooting another arrow.

It tore through the air toward him, but this time, Draven didn't even attempt to dodge. He simply stood still, waiting until the arrow drew close before reaching out with his left hand and catching it.

He squeezed his fist, crushing the arrow until it disappeared.

A smile spread across his face as his crimson eyes began to glow. He stretched his body, loosening his muscles.

"Hey, kid, if you want to play so badly, I'm willing to play with you."

He was still smiling when he suddenly disappeared.

In the next instant, he reappeared directly in front of Hannah.

"Peekaboo."

Draven swung his left hand, throwing a punch toward her.

Hannah remained in the same spot, her eyes following his movement.

*He's fast.*
