Strange. That was all I could describe it as. Since the fantasians attacked, I've had this strangeness to me.
I feel hatred without thought at the fantasians.
And now, I'm currently standing over the dark elf. If I recall, her name should be Lyxa. I don't recall her from the novel, so she must be quite insignificant.
Looking at her, the fear on her face was quite evident. Weird. She was definitely bold, almost cocky even just now.
What changed I wonder.
The others were standing behind me. I could feel their eyes on me, their.... fear? They're afraid of me? Why?
Doesn't matter. I should focus on the task at hand.
"How did you get here? How did you know we'd be here? How did you know when we'd be here?" I asked her calmly.
She seemed to tremble but ultimately chose to stay silent.
Her defiance was proving to be quite infuriating. But that's the weird thing. Why was it infuriating.
Is it because she's refusing the question? Because she attacked us? She attacked Terra?
I don't even understand why I'm doing any of this. It's not like I'm even particularly loyal to Terra.
I don't owe them anything. And yet, here I was, about to brutalize yet another fantasian for their sake.
It's been like this for a while now. Since they revealed themselves, my mood just took a different turn.
Like something dark was in me, lurking and looking for an outlet.
You know what? Doesn't matter. Uncomfortable it may be? But I'll do it regardless. Because I'm a soldier.
My wings unfurled as it stabbed straight through Lyxa's shoulder as she grit her teeth, her expression contorting with pain.
"Talk. Tell me everything you know. How many of you are here? Who told you we'd be here? What's happened to the instructors? Who's the leader of this expedition force? And where are they?"
Silence again. This time, I went more extreme. With a flick of my wings, I crushed her right arm.
"Arrgh!" She yelled out in agony.
From the corner of my eyes, I observed their reactions. Marcus, Alicia, and Kevin had an excited look on their faces.
Almost like the fear of me they had just now had been fake.
Anabelle and Patrick had neutral expressions on their faces. River, Maria, and most of all, Lucas had clear uncomfortable looks on their faces.
Lucas in particular.
Of course he wasn't comfortable with this. I mean he came from the same planet as them. They were his people.
But to be honest, I really couldn't bring myself to care. Right now, this information was the difference between life and death for us.
We need it. And I'm getting it whatever means necessary.
But, looking at Lyxa, I doubt she'd say anything. Infact there's probably no more need to torture her.
Even if I cut off her limb, I doubt she'd talk. A well trained soldier.
Let's just put her out of her misery and move on. I concluded as I tapped my weapons compartment bringing out my pistol.
Standard issue. Every cadet with the new generation nano suit had one.
I pointed the gun at her head, ready to blow her brains out when—
"Hey! You bastard!" An angry, almost panicked voice interrupted me as I turned to see who it was.
It was the other elven prisoner. The golden haired elf. What was his name again?
"Renard!" Lyxa screamed back. From the look on her face, it seems she only just realized we had him as well.
"You bastard! Dog of the high council!" Renard screamed at me. "Release us this instant!" He demanded but I ignored him as I looked at Lyxa.
There was something different between these two and I noticed just then, the necklace around her neck.
In a burst of speed, I snatched it, the chain snapping easily in my hand.
Lyra's eyes widened, as in a panic lunged at me, ignoring her broken arm, but I just moved out of the way as she fell to the ground.
"Give it back…!"
I ignored her, opening the locket. Inside was a picture of Lyra and a golden haired elf I recognized so well.
In the picture, they had affectionate looks for each other. Hoh, it's all adding up. The straight concern for one another, even in a time of capture.
I walked up to Renard as I put the pistol to his head, before facing Lyxa. "Talk or I blow his brains out."
"I don't ca—!"
"And don't do something as stupid as trying to call my bluff. If you do, I'll blow his brains out." I immediately interrupted her as she tried to bluff her way out.
"Lyxa don—!" Renard tried to discourage her from talking but I used the pistol to whack his head with such force he immediately passed out.
Lyxa had a puzzled expression on her face as she didn't know whether to speak or not.
"Tick tock. Time's ticking." I said as I was about to pull the trigger.
Lyra's sobs grew louder, her body trembling as she begged. "Please… don't make me a traitor to my own race… to my own people…"
Looks like it's working. I lowered my gun from Renard's head as I leaned in closer to her. "Then talk. Save the man you love."
"Lyxa don't!" Renard screamed and for a moment, after seeming like she would break, she bit her lip in silence.
Bang!
"Argh!" Renard groaned in pain as blood dripped from his shoulder. He raised his head up to glare at me but I couldn't be bothered.
Bang!
I shot his other shoulder. And another wave of agony washed over him.
"I'll talk. I'll talk!" She finally caved in. "Good." Now tal—!
I felt it. A chill crawling up my spine. My instincts screamed at me to run and I obliged it.
Flapping my wings, I launched myself into the air. As soon as I did, a loud boom echoed through the forest.
And then, the ground where I had been standing erupted in a shockwave, leveling everything nearby.
Trees were uprooted, rocks shattered, and dust filled the air. I looked to my side, relieved to see an earth sheltering that River had conjured.
Standing beside her was.... Natasha. Crap did she see?
The others were in an ice and plant dome conjured by Anabelle and Maria. Ok. They're safe too.
Good. What about—!
Searching for Lyxa, I saw a sight that made my blood boil.
She was impaled through the neck by a golden spear, her body limp and lifeless. Renard's decapitated head at her feet as she held it close, with a resignated smile on her face.
Like she'd accepted her fate.
"Thank you, sir," she whispered, her voice barely audible. "It's a shame... but... at least...now... I won't... be a... traitor… Please... avenge... us."
She muttered as life finally left her eyes and she slumped, dead.
The spear then shook violently before pulling itself free and flying back toward the entrance gate toward the west.
Tch. The control room huh. That's great. Not to mention he can see us huh. Let's hope he doesn't snipe us from afar.
