Chapter 418 - Blood and Earth

---

The forest held its breath.

Three late-stage beasts—against one.

They moved first.

All at once.

No hesitation. No testing. No restraint.

The flaming lion surged forward, flames erupting outward, blackening the ground beneath its charge.

The centipede vanished low into the earth, its long body slipping beneath the surface, circling.

The deer—didn't rush. Its body tensed—then blurred sideways, blood-red horns gleaming as it repositioned for a lethal angle.

Three directions. Three attacks. Perfect coordination.

The lizard didn't move. Not yet. Golden eyes tracked everything.

Lion—front.

Centipede—below.

Deer—flank.

*…Good.*

The lion struck first. A massive claw wreathed in fire tore forward—

The lizard shifted.

A slight, almost imperceptible movement—barely anything—but enough. The claw missed by a fraction.

At that same instant, the ground beneath him erupted.

The centipede burst upward, jaws wide, venom dripping, aiming to swallow him whole—

Too slow.

The lizard's body lifted. Not jumping. Not leaping. Just gone from that position.

Appearing above.

Then—

*Mind Shock.*

Focused this time. Not scattered. Not diluted.

It slammed into the centipede. Harder. Sharper.

The creature shrieked, its body freezing mid-lunge, momentum breaking as its mind staggered.

The deer saw it.

*Opening.*

It moved. A blur of red. Horns aimed straight for the lizard's exposed side—

The lizard turned his head. Just slightly.

And waited.

The moment the deer closed in, time seemed to slow. Its blood-red horns gleamed, cutting through the air with deadly precision, aimed straight for the lizard's side. Perfect angle. Perfect timing.

And the lizard… didn't move. Not yet. His golden eyes flickered—not with urgency, but with thought.

*The lion's ability is obvious… Flames. Raw power. Straightforward. But the other two…*

A pause.

*What are their abilities?*

For a fraction of a second—silence.

Then—

**[Analyzing…]**

The deer struck—

The lizard's body shifted. Slight tilt. Minimal. Precise.

The horns grazed past him—missing his core by a hair's breadth.

At the same time, his tail moved. Fast. Striking the deer's side mid-charge—

**BOOM.**

The impact threw it off course, skidding violently across the ground, tearing through soil and roots.

Below, the centipede convulsed, recovering from the mental strike, its many legs thrashing as it forced control back.

The lion turned sharply, flames surging higher, preparing another assault—

And the system responded.

**[Species Identified: Blood-Horned Deer]**

**[Ability: Blood Acceleration — Enhances speed, reaction, and piercing power through bloodline stimulation. Temporary bursts increase lethality exponentially.]**

**[Species Identified: Shadow Burrow Centipede]**

**[Ability: Subterranean Earth Phase — Allows rapid underground movement and sudden emergence. Possesses high-potency venom with paralytic and corrosive effects.]**

A brief pause—

**[Combat Assessment: Coordinated assault specialists. High mobility and burst lethality.]**

The information settled. Clean. Clear.

The lizard's eyes narrowed slightly.

*Speed… Ambush… Venom…*

His tail flicked once.

The deer pushed itself up, shaking off the blow, eyes now sharper—more cautious.

The centipede sank halfway back into the earth, circling again—waiting.

The lion stepped forward, flames roaring, heat distorting the air.

Three again. Reforming. Adjusting.

And the lizard finally shifted his stance. Slightly lower. More grounded.

Because now—he understood them.

He didn't move. Didn't look at the others. His golden eyes were fixed downward—through the earth. Watching. Tracking.

The centipede's long body slid beneath the surface like water, fluid, weaving through soil and stone as if they weren't even there.

*…Just like that human technique.*

A memory surfaced. A cultivator. Sinking into the ground. Moving unseen. *Earth escape art.* He had tried. Watched. Remembered every detail. Every motion. Every shift of energy.

But—it didn't work. No matter how he replicated it—nothing. No response. No connection.

His eyes narrowed slightly.

*…But this…*

The centipede wasn't using technique. It was instinct. Natural. Seamless.

*If I understand it… I can replicate it.*

Suddenly—the ground beneath him shifted. Then—

**ERUPTED.**

Massive earthen claws shot up from below and around him, jagged and dense, slamming inward from all directions to crush him completely.

Impact.

A thunderous crack echoed. Fragments of hardened earth exploded outward—shattered, broken, reduced to debris.

At the center—the lizard stood. Unmoved. Untouched. White scales gleaming faintly. Not a scratch. Not even a mark.

His eyes never left the ground. Still watching. Still learning.

Below, the centipede froze for a split second.

*…No effect?* Its many legs twitched rapidly. *That attack should have—*

*…Nothing?*

Above ground, the deer moved. Its body tensed—veins flaring crimson beneath its skin. Eyes sharpened. Pupils thinning.

*Blood Acceleration.*

Its entire body blurred. Faster. Sharper. More precise. The ground beneath it cracked as it launched forward—

This time—no hesitation. No probing.

**Kill.**

It circled—then struck from a blind angle. From behind. From above. Horns glowing deep crimson, piercing power amplified to the limit, aimed directly for the lizard's neck.

The lion moved simultaneously. Flames surged violently, charging head-on again, jaws opening wide, heat distorting everything in its path.

Above. Below. Behind. Perfect coordination. Again.

The lizard's gaze finally lifted. Slowly. From the ground—to the battlefield.

Golden eyes calm. Cold.

*I see it now.*

His body shifted. Just slightly.

And this time—he moved.

---

The moment he moved—

Everything changed.

The deer's strike arrived first.

A crimson flash—horns tearing through the air toward his neck with lethal precision.

But the lizard didn't retreat. Didn't dodge fully.

He leaned.

Just enough.

The horns grazed past his scales—close. Too close.

And his tail moved.

**CRACK.**

It struck the deer mid-motion—not stopping it, but redirecting it. Twisting its path. Breaking its perfect line.

At the same instant—the lion was already there.

Flames roaring, jaws snapping shut where the lizard had been—

But he was no longer there.

Gone.

Reappearing a short distance away—low, grounded, eyes sharp.

The ground beneath him shifted again. The centipede. Waiting. Timing.

It burst upward once more—faster this time, more precise, jaws wide, venom dripping—

But the lizard didn't move away.

He stepped forward. Into it.

His claws slammed down—gripping the centipede's head mid-emerge—

**BOOM.**

The ground shattered outward as its momentum stopped completely. Its body thrashed violently, countless legs scraping against the earth, trying to pull back—trying to retreat—

Too late.

The lizard's tail coiled—then drove forward, piercing into its segmented body.

Poison met poison.

The centipede shrieked—a high, distorted sound as its body convulsed.

But—it didn't die.

Its body twisted violently, segments splitting apart as it forced itself free, tearing its own flesh just to escape his grip. Half its body vanished back underground—retreating. Wounded. But alive.

The lizard released what remained. Let it go. Golden eyes watched the ground again.

*It can abandon sections to escape… Adaptable.*

Behind him—the deer recovered mid-air, skidding across the ground before regaining its footing, breath sharp, eyes now filled with caution.

The lion circled. Slower now. Flames lower—but denser. More controlled.

They didn't rush again. Didn't charge blindly.

Because now—they understood.

This wasn't prey.

This was something else.

The lizard stood still once more. Body relaxed. Unharmed. Untouched.

But his eyes—locked onto the ground again.

Watching. Learning.

Because the fight was no longer just about killing.

It was about understanding.

And the moment he finished understanding—it would end.

The lizard's gaze remained fixed. Unblinking. Golden eyes glowing faintly—following. Tracking every movement beneath the surface.

The centipede fled through the earth, weaving rapidly, its body splitting and reforming as it moved, trying to escape his perception.

But—it couldn't. Not anymore.

*…I see it.*

Not just the movement. Not just the path. But the *flow*. How the earth shifted around it. How resistance disappeared. How it *slipped through* instead of forcing its way.

The lizard moved. One step. Claw pressing into the ground.

The earth responded.

At first—a tremor. Then—a surge.

The ground cracked open as something massive formed beneath—coiling, shaping, rising—

A serpent. Made of earth. Dense. Heavy. Alive under his control.

It shot downward. Fast. Precise.

Underground—the centipede sensed it too late.

The earth itself turned against it.

The serpent clamped down—jaws of compressed stone snapping shut around its body—

**CRUNCH.**

Then—it rose.

Bursting out of the ground in an explosion of dirt and shattered roots, the massive earth serpent lifting high into the air, its lower half still anchored like a living pillar.

In its jaws—the centipede. Trapped. Crushed. Its many legs thrashing wildly, body twisting, trying to break free—

But it couldn't.

Above—the lizard watched. Calm. Silent.

The earth serpent held it there for a moment. Then—released.

The centipede's broken body fell, heavy, landing at the lizard's paws with a dull impact. Half of it still moved—segments twitching, trying to crawl, trying to live.

The lizard stepped forward. No hesitation. No pause.

His jaws opened—then closed.

**CRUNCH.**

Silence.

He lifted his head slowly. The corpse stilled. Completely.

Another presence—gone.

The earth serpent behind him collapsed, crumbling back into lifeless soil.

The lizard turned.

Golden eyes locking onto the remaining two: the flaming lion. The blood-horned deer.

No rush. No excitement.

Just—focus.

Then—the ground trembled again.

Once. Twice.

And then—more.

The earth split in multiple places around him—serpents rising one after another, coiling, towering, formed entirely of compressed earth and stone. Silent. Waiting. Under his command.

The lizard stood at the center of it all. Surrounded. Unmoving.

And his gaze said everything.

**Your turn.**
