Chapter 943 - Reunion with Old Friends

A complete beatdown!

Kid Buu's killing intent was fearsome, but against Toppo — an apprentice Destroyer — he had no edge whatsoever in strength, speed, or durability.

One move was all it took. Toppo seized Kid Buu's arm, and while his "Justice Crusher" didn't quite pulverize the Majin's wrist, the relentless barrage that followed left the creature completely overwhelmed.

From the opening exchange to the elimination of the last cell — just over one minute total. Most of that time was spent hunting down scattered cells that had flown off in every direction. The actual fight itself? Maybe fifteen seconds.

With the Demon Clan's elite already wiped out by Ino and the others, and the Demon Realm Supreme Kai now "gone," many of the corrupted Celestial Mages began snapping back to their senses one by one. They spent a bewildered moment wondering what on earth they'd been doing for the past several years — but they figured out "run" pretty fast.

Celestial Mages had no shortage of tricks, and when every one of them had their heart set on fleeing, catching them all was simply impossible.

On the sixteenth day of the full offensive, Zamasu's army swept through the Demon Realm like a scythe through wheat, completely obliterating the Demon Clan's capacity to resist.

After that, driven by a thoroughness that left no evil standing, they cut down every Demon Clan member within sight before finally leading the army back to the Tenth Universe.

The Demon Realm still existed. The Demon Clan still existed. But after a purge of this scale, they would pose no threat to the material world for several centuries at least.

...

With the butterfly wings of Ino's meddling still in motion, the martial arts tournament between the Sixth and Seventh Universes that was originally meant to take place had been cancelled. In its place: a joint eating competition hosted by the two universes together.

What was the point of fighting? Let's have an eating contest instead! Lack of enthusiasm at the dinner table is a sign of a troubled soul.

Whoever eats the most, eats the fastest — that person is a true hero!

Vegeta was all for holding the event on Earth, raising both hands in approval. Son Goku wasn't thrilled — he still thought a martial arts tournament was the better idea.

But his objections didn't matter.

Chichi, Son Gohan, the Ox-King, Krillin, Piccolo — even Fortuneteller Baba and Master Korin, who normally never voiced opinions on anything — all threw their unwavering support behind the eating contest.

His objections were drowned out by a unanimous chorus of "we agree!" from everyone around him.

He scratched his head and went along with it.

Three months after the Demon Realm War ended, everyone gathered on Earth.

Bulma footed the entire bill — venue, funding, all of it. No. 18, thanks to her solid connections with the Galactic King of the Galactic Patrol, handled outreach and coordination. Chichi ran the kitchen. The Dragon Ball Three Beauties were all in.

In the three days before the official competition, ingredients poured in from all across Earth and from countless planets throughout the universe.

Son Goku had to both compete and help with deliveries, and was sent running all over the place under Chichi's orders from morning to night. His training fell completely by the wayside.

The day of the competition arrived.

Beerus had been pestering Whis since early morning, and the two of them set out ahead of schedule — arriving practically at first light.

Vegeta stood nearby, peeling fruit. Son Goku, in a delivery vest, was cross-referencing cargo manifests.

Krillin, Yamcha, everyone — the whole place was a bustling hive of activity.

Beerus, naturally, was not going to lift a finger. He found himself a deck chair, settled into it, closed his eyes, and waited for the food.

Next to arrive were Champa and Vados, who brought the Sixth Universe's contestants with them.

Ino's family of four and Choji's family of three arrived at roughly the same time — but Ino had already been there resting for a good half hour before Champa came huffing and puffing over to her.

"I could see you touching down ages ago. What were you..." She genuinely could not understand what Champa had been thinking. "...what were you doing?"

The Sixth Universe's Destroyer was drenched in sweat. Hinata poured him a glass of water, which he gulped down in three big swallows, then pulled out a handkerchief to mop his brow — thoroughly exhausted, clearly in no state to talk.

The contestants he'd brought wore a variety of expressions, but none of them seemed willing to openly mock their own Destroyer.

Vados, on the other hand, couldn't have cared less about that. She gave her charge a withering look. "Lord Champa felt that a figure of stature needs to build sufficient momentum before making an entrance, so he had me adjust our landing point just a little further away."

"Just a little further away," Ino said. "And then?"

"And then we walked. On our own two feet. Ten kilometers of it, all the way here."

At their level of power, ten kilometers was nothing — ten thousand kilometers wouldn't be a problem. But Champa was too fat. Vados had been pushing him to lose weight, so this time she had banned him from using his divine power, forcing him to rely entirely on his own physical strength — stumbling along uneven mountain roads, foot after uncertain foot, until after those final ten kilometers, he had nearly collapsed from exhaustion.

Ino shook her head slowly. That fat cat — he really wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed. He'd walked straight into Vados's little verbal trap again, hadn't he?

On the deck chair, Beerus cracked one eye open, caught a glimpse of his brother's pitiful state, and let out a cold, satisfied snort. He couldn't have been more delighted.

"You — are you Kale?!" Behind Champa, a Saiyan girl in a pink crop top, purple trousers, and spiky black hair — dressed like a teenage delinquent — peered at Kale, looked her over several times, then burst out at full volume.

Kale, who had been eating ice cream nearby, startled and spun around, studying the delinquent girl up and down for a moment. "You're Senior Caulifla? But Planet Sadala was destroyed..."

The delinquent girl put her hands on her hips. Hearing her home planet mentioned, her normally breezy expression involuntarily tightened. "Under Brother Renso's leadership, only a handful of us managed to escape. Planet Sadala really was destroyed..." She trailed off, then: "Never mind me — how did you survive?"

The two were old acquaintances reunited, and both Ino's side and Champa's battered group paid them no mind. Caulifla and Kale fell into conversation about what they'd each been through since parting ways.

Kale gave a rough account of her life these past few years.

"Super Saiyan?"

"Super Saiyan 2? Super Saiyan 3? And Super Saiyan God?!"

Traveling with Ino meant one's horizons expanded in remarkable ways — Kale was thoroughly familiar with the full range of Super Saiyan transformations. Caulifla, by contrast, had spent her years on the run with the surviving remnants of their people, searching desperately for a new home. The hardship was real enough, but the nutrition hadn't been. One look at Caulifla's board-flat figure told you everything about how rough things had been.

Super Saiyan burned fifty times the body's energy in an instant — they couldn't even dream of attempting it, let alone train for it. Food was the problem. Without enough to eat, you couldn't recover in time, and that could be fatal.

These Sixth Universe Saiyan survivors lived like refugees — feast one day, starve the next. Word was they could really put away a meal, so Champa hadn't thought too hard about it before selecting Caulifla and another Saiyan male named Gabe, bringing them to Earth in the Seventh Universe for the eating competition.

Both Caulifla and Gabe were painfully thin — their arms and legs like dry reeds.

By comparison, Kale was slender too, but she looked healthy-slender.
