"Really, Brina… there's actually a Pokémon inside this?" Orin asked, still a bit skeptical.
"You're not messing with me again, right?"
He narrowed his eyes at her. She had pulled off similar pranks before—only to act innocent afterward and somehow blame him for falling for it.
"It's not a prank, Nii-chan," Brina said with a pout.
"…Alright, I'll believe you this time," Orin said with a small grin.
"So, which Pokémon is it?"
"It's a surprise gift," Brina replied with an exaggerated sigh.
"You'll obviously find out when you open it."
"Rio?"
Riolu trotted up beside Orin, staring curiously at the Poké Ball in his hand.
"Riolu, looks like we're about to get a new member in our team," Orin said, a hint of eagerness in his voice.
"Isn't that exciting?"
"Riolu!"
She nodded eagerly, clapping her paws together.
Her reaction made Orin smile, his anticipation only growing.
"Should I open it here… or go outside to the courtyard for more space?" he asked, glancing at Brina while tightening his grip on the ball.
"It should be fine here," Brina said thoughtfully, tapping a finger against her chin.
"Alright then."
Orin handed her his phone.
"Record this please."
Then he pressed the button on the Poké Ball and aimed it toward the open space in front of the bed.
A bright red beam shot out—
blinding both Orin and Riolu for a brief moment.
When their vision cleared…
they saw a Pokémon standing before them.
It had a large, oblong head with thick, symmetrical black lines running down the front. Beneath those lines were two button-like eyes—glowing in a bright pinkish-purple hue—fixed directly on him.
"Wow… an Elgyem," Orin muttered, recognizing it instantly, excitement flickering in his voice.
"Rio?"
Riolu tilted her head, eyes wide as she studied the unfamiliar Pokémon.
Its entire body had a smooth, almost polished look—like it was carved from glossy, light-blue stone.
There was something distinctly alien about its appearance… small, quiet, and strangely captivating.
Orin hesitated for a moment.
He wanted to reach out and touch its oversized head—but wasn't quite sure if that would be appropriate, especially with those odd indentations on either side of it's head.
"Hello, Elgyem," he said instead, extending his hand slowly.
The Pokémon responded almost immediately.
It raised its arm toward him—
and instead of fingers, three glowing orbs sat at the tips, colored magenta, yellow, and bright blue.
"Elgyem!"
Suddenly, the orbs began blinking rapidly—
and the lights in the room flickered along with them.
"Riolu!"
Riolu looked up in confusion, ears twitching as the lights pulsed overhead.
But just as quickly, everything returned to normal.
The blinking stopped, and the room lights steadied—though Elgyem's arm remained extended.
Orin's eyes sharpened.
He had felt it.
Elgyem hadn't spoken aloud—
it didn't even have a mouth to speak from,
instead it had spoken directly into their minds.
As a Psychic himself, Orin was especially sensitive to such things. Others might have missed it entirely, but to him, the faint mental ripple was unmistakable.
The brief disturbance in the lights… that was likely a side effect of its power.
He had seen similar things happen before multiple times with Kaddi back home.
Seeing Elgyem still waiting, Orin extended his hand further and gently grasped it, giving it a small shake.
For a fleeting moment, a strange thought crossed his mind—
like a scene out of E.T., when humans first made contact with something… otherworldly.
"Hello again, Elgyem. I'm Orin," he said with a bright grin.
"Looks like we're going to be partners from now on."
"Elgyem…"
The voice echoed softly in his mind—curious, observant.
Elgyem tilted its head slightly, its pinkish-purple eyes scanning him from head to toe.
"Oh?" Orin murmured.
Elgyem's gaze had shifted past him—towards Riolu.
It slowly withdrew its hand…
and then glided forward.
Only now did Orin fully notice it—
despite those short, stubby legs, Elgyem wasn't using them at all.
It was hovering.
Silently, it floated up onto the bed, stopping right in front of Riolu.
"Riolu?"
She tilted her head, studying the strange Pokémon standing—no, floating—before her.
It was even slightly bigger than her, which only made it more intimidating… and interesting.
"Elgyem."
It extended its arm again, the colored orbs at its fingertips beginning to blink rhythmically—though this time, the room lights remained steady.
Riolu glanced at Orin for a split second—
then mimicked him.
She reached out her paw and shook Elgyem's hand.
"Riolu!"
She tapped her chest proudly with her other paw, introducing herself.
"Elgyem… Elgyem."
The alien Pokémon nodded, as if understanding perfectly.
Then it withdrew its hand…
and turned its attention toward Brina.
Without a sound, it floated straight towards her.
"Wow, Nii-chan, look! This Elgyem can float using telekinesis too!" Brina exclaimed excitedly.
As she spoke, she lifted herself off the ground as well, casually hovering in place while still holding the phone.
"It's way more talented than you, Nii-chan," she added offhandedly.
"You can't even float properly."
"I can float… for at least five seconds," Orin muttered with a wry smile.
"At that point, it's basically just a jump," Brina replied with a giggle.
…Critical hit.
Orin visibly deflated a little at that.
"Elgyem!"
The Pokémon extended its arm again. This time, the orbs blinked much faster—
and the room lights flickered erratically along with them.
"Hello, Elgyem! I'm Brina—Orin's adorable little sister!" she declared cheerfully, taking its hand without hesitation.
The moment their hands met, the lights steadied again.
"Elgyemm!"
Its pinkish-purple eyes glowed a little brighter for a second—then softened as it withdrew its hand.
After that, Elgyem began drifting around the room.
It paused in front of different objects—the cupboard, the chair, the desk—
each time extending its arm as the colored orbs blinked briefly, almost like it was… scanning them.
Then it would move on to the next.
Orin watched, completely unsure what it was doing—
…but the way its tiny tail wiggled slightly every time it stopped made it oddly adorable.
"So, Nii-chan… did you like the gift?" Brina asked, tilting her head curiously.
"I love it," Orin said immediately, a wide grin spreading across his face.
"It's the best gift I've ever gotten."
In both lives, he added silently to himself.
"Thank you, Brina."
He stepped forward and pulled her into a tight hug.
"Hehe~ I knew it! My gift is the coolest and the best!" Brina beamed proudly.
"Take that, Copycat," she muttered under her breath with a smug, satisfied grin.
"But… where did you even find an Elgyem? Aren't they supposed to be super rare?" Orin asked, looking at her closely.
From what he knew, Pokémon like this weren't something you could just buy anywhere—
not even places like Team Rocket's underground markets dealt in something this uncommon.
"Eh—th-that… well…" Brina suddenly looked away, fidgeting a little.
"It's not exactly my gift…"
"…Not your gift?" Orin blinked. "Then whose is it?"
"No—what I mean is—it's… yes! It's a joint gift!" she said quickly.
"From both Onee-chan and me."
"…Big Sis? So she gifted me this Pokémon?" Orin repeated, clearly surprised.
"It's from both of us, not just her!" Brina snapped with a pout.
"Yeah, yeah—that's what I meant," he said, chuckling as he patted her head.
If Sabrina had been involved, then it made a lot more sense.
For someone like her, obtaining a rare Pokémon like Elgyem wouldn't be difficult at all.
Still…
The fact that she had sent him a gift at all—
and something this valuable—
That was unexpected.
Did she… actually miss him after he left Saffron City? Was this her way of sending him off?
…No.
More likely, she wanted to push him forward—help him grow stronger so he could compete for the top ranks in Nexus Rankings, especially because of their bet.
Either way…
He couldn't deny it.
He was grateful.
"…I still don't even have Big Sis's number," Orin muttered.
"I'll just have to thank her properly when I meet her."
"Sure, sure~ or you could just treat me to lots of sweets instead," Brina said, spreading her arms expectantly.
"Alright—but not right now," Orin replied, rubbing her head.
"No sweets at night. You'll have to wait until tomorrow."
"Ugh… fine!" Brina huffed, puffing her cheeks in protest.
Both of them then turned their attention to Elgyem.
It had drifted in front of the Holo-Wall, and the display kept flickering erratically whenever it raised its arm toward it. The colored orbs blinked rapidly, almost as if it was trying to interact with the system.
Riolu stood nearby, watching everything with bright, curious eyes—tilting her head, occasionally circling around Elgyem as if trying to figure out what exactly it was doing.
"By the way, Brina… when did you even put the Poké Ball in my bag? Why didn't I notice it inside?" Orin asked, frowning slightly.
"Hehe… when Nii-chan was busy singing in the shower," Brina said with a smug grin.
"Brina just slipped it in quietly. Maybe Nii-chan just didn't check properly?"
Orin was certain he had emptied the bag completely while unpacking…
"Also—when did you get inside the necklace? I didn't notice that either," he pressed.
"I did that when Nii-chan got into the flying cab," she replied proudly.
"So when I was emotionally saying goodbye to you… you really had already planned to come with me through that necklace?" Orin asked, baffled.
"Why didn't you just tell me then?"
"Because Brina wanted to give Onii-chan a big surprise!" she said, sticking out her tongue playfully.
"How could Brina spoil it?"
"…Fine," Orin sighed.
"But then why did Mimi say you were sleeping? She knows you came here with me, right?"
"I told Mimi to lie," Brina replied with a mischievous giggle.
"And Nii-chan got fooled again."
Orin shook his head, letting out a quiet sigh.
He had felt something was off back then… but he had just assumed she was upset with him.
"Wait—then why didn't you come out during the turbulence on the plane?" he asked, recalling the incident with the Legendary Pokémon. "You stayed inside this whole time."
"That…" Brina tapped her head sheepishly.
"Brina fell asleep after going inside. Tehe~"
Then she puffed her chest out proudly.
"But I still didn't miss wishing you on time, Nii-chan! Isn't Brina amazing?"
"…Yeah. You are," Orin replied with a wry smile.
Though inwardly, he knew this wasn't something he could just brush off.
Sneaking Brina into Nexus like this…
That was going to be a problem sooner or later.
"By the way, Nii-chan…" Brina suddenly leaned closer, lowering her voice to a whisper.
"Is Elgyem really an alien? Like from that movie?"
"…Which movie are you even talking about?" Orin asked, raising a brow.
"You know the one where a group of students accidentally get teleported to another planet," Brina said excitedly, gesturing wildly,
"and then this alien shows up, steals all their Pokémon, and they have to catch new ones on that planet and fight back?"
"…You mean 'Interstellar: Lost Trainers'?" Orin asked slowly.
"Yes! That one!" Brina nodded rapidly.
"Doesn't Elgyem look just like that alien?"
"Wait—you watched that without me?" Orin's eyes widened in betrayal.
"When I wanted to watch it, you said we'd watch it together!"
"Ah! Th-that…" Brina looked away guiltily, folding her arms.
"Mimi was watching it on TV, and I just happened to be there! She forced me to watch it with her, so it's not Brina's fault!"
"…I should've just gone to the theatre when it released," Orin muttered with a sigh.
"Onii-chan, focus! Is it an alien or not?" she pressed, leaning in again.
"I've read a lot of rumors about it online," Orin said, reaching for his Pokédex on the bedside table.
"Let's just check it properly."
He pointed the device toward Elgyem.
A soft, robotic female voice echoed out:
"Elgyem, Female. NexusDex Number 605. Psychic-type Pokémon."
"First discovered approximately fifty years ago, this Pokémon's highly developed brain allows it to exert powerful psychic abilities.
It is said to manipulate objects and memories with precision, often displaying behavior that suggests advanced intelligence."
Orin had customized the Pokédex voice earlier—switching it to a female tone and enabling expanded entries.
"So… Elgyem's a girl," Orin nodded, feeling a bit relieved.
"Good. She and Riolu might get along better that way."
Looking up, he saw Elgyem calmly floating around the room—
while Riolu, brimming with curiosity and playful energy, kept trying to poke its oversized head.
Each time—
Elgyem would drift just out of reach.
Smooth. Precise. Almost deliberate.
"Riolu?!"
Riolu pouted, then suddenly tried a quick feint—jumping from the other side instead.
Elgyem tilted mid-air… and effortlessly floated away again.
It wasn't just avoiding her—
it was predicting her.
Orin sighed.
Yeah… that was going to take some work.
"Onii-chan, ask it if she's an alien," Brina said, eyeing the Pokédex eagerly.
"Well… I can ask it specific questions," Orin muttered, pressing a few buttons and inputting the query.
The device responded in its calm, robotic female voice:
"Elgyem remains a Pokémon shrouded in mystery. It is said to have first appeared after a UFO was sighted crashing in a desert approximately fifty years ago. However, this remains an unverified and widely debated rumor."
Orin recalled reading about that before.
New Pokémon discoveries weren't unusual—but Elgyem's case had sparked a wave of alien theories.
Even now, some people still claimed they had "seen aliens"…
when it was probably just an Elgyem.
"Eh? So is it an alien or not?" Brina asked, frowning as she grabbed the Pokédex from his hands.
"It's strange," Orin said thoughtfully.
"You'd think scientists would've figured something like that out by now…"
"Eh, look—this Elgyem in the image has blue eyes, but this one doesn't," Brina pointed out.
"Oh, that's because this one is a shiny—" Orin said casually.
Then he froze.
His eyes widened.
"…Oh my god."
"OH MY GOD—THIS ELGYEM IS SHINY!!"
In the next instant, he lunged forward, grabbing Elgyem and pulling her into an excited hug.
"I got a shiny Pokémon—oh my god, that's insane! That's actually insane!"
"Riolu?!"
Riolu blinked, startled by the sudden outburst—then quickly bounced around him, equally hyped by his excitement.
"Elgyem!"
Elgyem's eyes flared brightly, the orbs on her fingers blinking rapidly—
—and in the next second, she popped out of his grasp, reappearing a short distance away, hovering silently in front of him.
Orin froze for a moment—then scratched his cheek awkwardly.
"Ah… sorry. I got a bit carried away," he admitted, though his heart was still racing.
"Elgyem."
She gave a small nod, unfazed, and calmly resumed drifting around the room—continuing her curious inspection of everything in sight.
"Is a shiny Pokémon really that big of a deal?" Brina asked, tilting her head.
"Are they stronger or something?"
"It's not about strength," Orin said, his grin still wide, eyes practically shining.
"It's about how ridiculously rare they are—especially for a Pokémon like Elgyem."
He looked at Elgyem again—really looked this time—
the unusual coloration, the distinct eye color—
Yeah. No doubt about it.
This was an absolute jackpot.
"Oh—wait, I haven't even registered her yet!"
Snapping out of it, Orin rushed to grab his Pokédex.
Recalling the steps from the seminar earlier that day, he quickly navigated through the interface and brought up the registration screen—
then scanned the Poké Ball in his hand.
[Elgyem has been added to Orin's Team!]
Seeing Elgyem appear in his Pokémon tab made him let out a quiet, giddy chuckle.
But then—
his eyes caught something unusual beside her name.
"What are these symbols…?" he muttered, tapping the first one.
✨
"This Elgyem is a Shiny Pokémon."
The female voice responded instantly.
Right beside it was another symbol—
🜂
"This particular Elgyem is an Alpha specimen of its species."
"…What?"
Orin's breath hitched.
"It's… both? A Shiny and an Alpha?"
He looked up at Elgyem again—looking at her from head to tail.
Her size… her presence…
She was noticeably larger than an average Elgyem—
even bigger than Riolu.
"…This is insane," he whispered.
"Thank you—thank you, Brina!"
He rushed forward, scooping her up and lifting her into the air, spinning once before bringing her back down and peppering her cheeks with quick kisses.
"This is something I couldn't even dream of!"
"Hehehe~ Brina likes it when Onii-chan is this happy," she giggled brightly.
Of course…
Orin knew this wasn't normal luck.
There was no way someone casually ended up with a Pokémon that was both Shiny and Alpha—
especially one as rare as Elgyem.
This had his Big Sis… Sabrina written all over it.
Even among elite trainers, something like this would be extraordinarily rare.
Right now—
he might be one of the very few in the entire world with a Pokémon like this.
Orin looked at Elgyem once more as she quietly floated in the air, her pinkish-purple eyes calmly observing everything around her.
His second partner Pokémon…
had turned out to be something truly—
out of this world.

The readers on Fiction.live rolled multiple times to get to Elgyem.
FIrst was a Psychic Pool Roll, where they ended up rolling Uncommon pool.
After that they rolled again and ended up with a choice between Elgyem and Meditite.
They selected Elgyem finally.
After that they rolled for gender, weight, height, etc.
In the Shiny rolls, they did a crit 100 roll, which is why this Pokemon is both a Shiny and an Alpha.
This happened only because the readers got incredibly lucky with a critical roll, I don't expect this to happen constantly in this story!
