Chapter 60 - chapter 59

The Bloodline of Betrayal:

The safe house was a stark contrast to the Sterling mansion. Tucked away in a quiet, high-walled compound in Ikeja, it smelled of stale tobacco and old paper. Sandra sat across from her father, her fingers nervously twisting the strap of her designer handbag. But it wasn't her father who held her gaze; it was the man sitting in the shadows—the man who had crushed the ivory king.

"Uncle Jude," Sandra whispered, her voice trembling. "I tried. I spent nearly an hour in the library while Liam was away,But Alexander's safe is biometric. It requires his thumbprint and a voice command. I can't force it open without alerting the entire security team."

Jude Adenuga, the elder brother of Sandra's father, leaned into the light. His face was a map of scars and bitter lines, the physical manifestation of ten years of exile. When the Sterlings had crushed the Adenuga company, Jude had been the one to take the fall, spending years in legal battles while his brother scrambled to keep what little they had left. He was the architect of their rage.

"The safe contains the original 'Project Horizon' ledgers, Sandra," Jude said, his voice like grinding stones. "Those papers prove that Alexander committed perjury and fraud to bankrupt us. Without them, we are just beggars asking for scraps. If you cannot open the safe, then we must change the variables."

Sandra's father, Chief Adenuga, looked at his brother with a flicker of hesitation. "Jude, we agreed to take the company. We didn't agree to—"

"To what? To justice?" Jude snapped. He turned back to Sandra, his eyes cold and clinical. "The 'Iceman' is distracted by this waitress. He isn't watching his father's vitals. It's time for Level Two, Sandra."

Sandra felt a chill run down her spine. "Level Two?"

Jude reached into the inner pocket of his coat and pulled out a small, amber-colored vial filled with white capsules. They looked identical to the heart medication Chief Alexander took three times a day. "These are placebos mixed with a mild respiratory depressant. They won't kill him instantly, but they will make his 'natural' decline accelerate. As his health fails, his mind will wander. He will become desperate. He will likely share the safe's codes with his 'devoted' future daughter-in-law in a moment of weakness."

Sandra stared at the vial. This wasn't just corporate espionage anymore. This was slow-motion murder. She thought of Alexander's frail hands and the way he looked at her with a fading, hopeful kindness, believing she was the key to his son's happiness.

"Swap them tonight," Jude commanded, pushing the vial across the scarred wooden table. "If Alexander dies before the merger is signed, the estate goes into probate and Liam loses control. We need the old man weak enough to talk, but alive enough to sign. Do your job, Sandra. Remember what they did to your mother. Remember the shame."

Sandra reached out, her hand shaking as she took the cold glass vial. The weight of it felt like a mountain. "I'll do it," she whispered, the last of her conscience flickering out like a candle in a storm. "I'll do it tonight."

Jude smiled, a dark, jagged expression. "Good.
