Chapter 326 - Memories

Gon and Killua stood nearby, quietly taking it all in.

By now, Kite had almost grown up, and he was here to regain his memories.

It was also the perfect opportunity to catch up on the current status of the Chimera Ants.

As for Gon's attempt to meet Ging, it still hadn't worked out.

According to Ging, he needed time to prepare mentally, and a sudden meeting wasn't the right approach for now.

Although the father and son had met, it was almost as if they hadn't.

Both were exceptional in their own right, yet there remained a distance between them.

Gon mentioned that Ging had promised to find time for a proper talk later on.

Meanwhile, Dwun, holding a cigarette between his lips, commented enviously about the Chimera Ants' talents.

"Honestly, these Chimera Ants are incredible. Seeing them makes me want to become one," he said.

As the central administrator of Greed Island, Dwun was well aware of the Chimera Ants' rapid growth.

Their strength seemed to improve daily, and many of the Chimera Ants who arrived were already at the level of division commanders, naturally gifted and talented.

Even without professional Nen training, they could reach such heights through natural development.

Now, with expert guidance from people like Razor, their power would only surpass what was seen in the original story.

That's why Dwun couldn't help but feel envious.

As a human, he had already hit his upper limit and spent most of his time overseeing Greed Island's operations.

But the Chimera Ants were different, their potential was far beyond his, and they still had room to grow.

It was hard not to feel a bit jealous.

"Most of them have developed Nen, and some have even linked their abilities to Greed Island itself," he added.

"There's an octopus Chimera Ant called Ikalgo, I can't quite remember the name of its Nen ability, though."

"But it can wear other people's corpses like clothes and control them," Dwun explained. "It can impersonate any NPC this way, which is pretty useful."

Larry thought for a moment and recalled the octopus Chimera Ant's Nen ability, which was called [Living Dead Dolls].

It allowed the user to parasitize corpses and manipulate their original abilities, though it couldn't control rotten ones.

The ability was impressive and sometimes produced miraculous results.

"Wow, that's really something to envy. Not only do they get stronger fast, but their mental abilities keep improving, too," Dwun sighed again.

"Sounds like you're just being lazy. You've got talent, but you just eat and sleep all day, don't you?"

List, always elegant and sharp, spread his hands wide and didn't hold back in revealing the harsh truth about Dwun: the guy was just plain lazy.

Most of the management work was left to others because Dwun preferred to lounge around like an old man, living a slow, carefree life.

"And he smokes," List added with a glance at Dwun, who was puffing away on a cigarette as usual.

Dwun practically smoked nonstop, leaving piles of cigarette butts everywhere, as if he couldn't function without them.

Laughing, Dwun scratched his afro and said, "Come on, you're exaggerating."

But List wasn't having it.

His temples throbbed with frustration as he slapped Dwun's shoulder and said, "That room's a total mess because of you. If it weren't for the Chimera Ants helping out with the cleaning, it'd be a disaster."

Gon, standing nearby, nodded quickly, recalling how filthy the place was when they first arrived, garbage scattered all over, it was beyond messy.

"Alright, it's almost time. We should head over and try to awaken Kite's memory," Larry reminded them, steering the conversation back to their main mission.

They'd come here to help Kite, who, despite being an adult, had lost her memories and now needed to be treated like a child.

The room they entered was like a preschooler's playhouse, filled with all sorts of toys.

Suddenly, the door creaked open, catching the attention of little Kite, who was busy playing inside.

She stood up, her chubby cheeks trembling slightly, and waved a toy knife in the air with a proud little flourish.

It was an adorable sight, a child showing off with a toy weapon, trying to seem tough in front of the adults.

Whether it was from some buried memory or just her nature, little Kite had a particular fascination with toy knives and sticks, always eager to wave them around, which Dwun said was her favorite pastime.

Kite showed no interest in the plush dolls handed to her; instead, she was drawn to toys like knives, guns, sticks, and clubs.

One of the most striking things about little Kite was how she kept repeating the same word, her own name.

Despite having no memories from before, she still remembered that she was called "Kite."

Although it was already clear that she was growing rapidly, Larry was still taken aback when he saw her in person.

What had once been a tiny creature had now grown to the size of a five- or six-year-old child.

Kite no longer resembled her original form.

Her silver hair had turned red, falling to about her waist.

Because she was still a child, her limbs remained relatively short, unlike the long legs she would develop later.

Over time, her appearance would gradually shift back toward her original form, but for now, the only sign of her chimera ant identity was the tail swinging behind her, an arthropod-like appendage that marked her uniqueness.

Overall, she looked like a cute, chibi-style child.

Watching this grown-up version of Kite call out her own name, Gon's emotions finally broke free.

Tears streamed down his cheeks and fell to the floor.

Those around him, especially Killua, deeply understood what he was feeling.

Sadness, joy, guilt, and a mix of other emotions churned inside Gon's heart before spilling out in those tears.

Clenching his fists, he was almost afraid to look at Kite's current form.

Instead, he bowed his head and let the tears flow, still feeling the weight of having hurt her.

Kite, noticing Gon's tears as she entered, tilted her head in confusion.

Yet, there was an odd sensation stirring within her.

She walked over slowly to the crying Gon, reached out, and grabbed his clenched hands.

Looking up at him with steady eyes, she said softly, "I'm sorry."

Startled at first, Gon quickly pulled Kite into a hug, repeating his apologies over and over.

Kite, a bit unsure, instinctively stood on her tiptoes and gently patted his back, as if comforting a child.

Gon was clearly taller, but the people around him didn't think the change would happen so suddenly.

"Well, it's almost time for Kite to regain her memory," someone said.

"If you have anything else to say, just wait until she remembers everything."

After a moment, Larry waved his hand, and a graceful figure appeared before everyone.

Gardevoir brought her hands together, and soft pink circles floated gently toward little Kite.

Kite was frozen in place, her eyes vacant and dull as if lost in a deep trance.

Slowly, fragments of memories began to surface from the depths of her mind, playing like slides in her head.

"I am Kite... I am a Hunter..." she murmured quietly.

"My master is Ging... my companion is Spina..."

"NGL Autonomous Country... and Gon and Killua..."
