Chapter 370 - Guarding The Ship

He hoped Meowth wouldn't get tired of the endless ocean views later on, though.

According to their schedule, they would be sailing these waters for about a month.

Luckily, their ship had been fully upgraded for speed, which made the journey much faster than a typical wooden sailing ship you'd find on the Six Continents.

Otherwise, it would have been nearly impossible to make it to the Dark Continent, especially considering all the dangers out at sea.

Looking at the maps from V5 and even the [Gatekeeper], Lake Mobius was enormous, and reaching the Dark Continent's edge meant a long voyage ahead.

For such a trip, paying close attention to food and water was crucial; no one can survive long without them.

Right now, they were still sailing within the waters of the Six Continents, but in a few days, they would leave those familiar waters behind.

The creatures they might encounter beyond that point could be unpredictable, and no one knew if they could safely eat them.

That's why Beyond had stocked the ship with plenty of food and fresh water.

He was extra cautious about supplies for this Dark Continent expedition and wouldn't take any chances.

Having invited Larry along also gave them a huge advantage.

Not only was Larry incredibly strong, but he also had space storage abilities.

Between him and Porygon-Z, they could carry a vast amount of ingredients and supplies, Gengar's stomach alone held plenty of food.

And if things got tough, Larry could always return to the Six Continents to restock through Porygon-Z, as long as the network was still available.

Now, though, as they ventured further away and eventually reached the Dark Continent, things were bound to get much more challenging.

In those remote areas, there's no existing network, so if you want to quickly get back to the Six Continents, you have to rely on Porygon Z's ability to create one.

Porygon Z can create two kinds of networks: permanent and temporary.

The permanent network takes more aura to establish but lasts forever once it's set up.

The temporary network, on the other hand, is used more often because it requires less aura, though it only lasts for a limited time.

Normally, to travel freely through the network world, there needs to be a continuous network connecting your starting point and your destination.

That's because Porygon Z's way of traveling relies on opening up a channel between those two points.

It takes some aura to open a space channel at the start.

Once inside the network world, you can move freely to any point within it.

Thanks to Porygon Z's deep understanding of this network world, it can lock onto the exact position corresponding to your destination.

Then, when you reach that spot, it opens another space channel to step back into the real world right at your destination.

But whether it's the starting point, the destination, or any spot along the way, there has to be a network.

If there isn't, Porygon Z has to create one.

Creating a network at the start or end points isn't too taxing because those are small areas.

The real challenge is covering the distance in between.

Many places across the Six Continents already have networks, so that's not usually a problem.

Even where there aren't any, since the Six Continents aren't that huge, Porygon Z can manage without expending too much aura.

But the situation changes drastically when it comes to the Dark Continent.

The distance between the Dark Continent and the Six Continents is unimaginably greater, far beyond the gap between the northernmost and southernmost parts of the Six Continents.

The aura needed to bridge that is enormous, and the consumption depends solely on the distance, not on how many people are traveling.

The farther apart the two points, the more network space Porygon Z has to create.

To keep aura use as low as possible, Porygon Z has no choice but to minimize how long the network stays active.

Establishing a permanent network between the Six Continents and the Dark Continent is impossible; only a temporary connection can be made.

This temporary network requires a continuous expenditure of spirit aura to keep it active.

Because of this, Porygon Z can only create a quick link from the Dark Continent to the Six Continents at a moment's notice.

It then uses the unique properties of this network world to teleport people into the Six Continents' network.

While this process is more challenging and consumes most of Porygon Z's spirit aura, it still provides a crucial escape route.

If needed, Porygon Z can also set up a small permanent network at the location.

Once inside, it can establish a temporary link back to the Six Continents to return there.

After resting, they can quickly return to the same spot because the permanent network acts like an island, and the temporary network serves as the bridge connecting these two "islands."

The bridge was constantly draining Porygon Z's aura as the boat and the dragon sped across the sea.

Time passed little by little, and before long, it was time for lunch.

"Time to eat!" Chef Sammy, the chef in a striped uniform who greatly admired Larry, cheerfully announced as he busily served dishes.

Inside the ship's large dining room, three big tables were set up, and at that moment, a dish featuring butterfly delicacies was being brought out.

Several logistics personnel from the mercenary team were helping Sammy with serving.

Normally, food would be rationed carefully, but Beyond figured that since it was the first day of the trip and their first meal, there was no need to hold back.

After all, the aura and morale of the team depended on it.

So, three tables were loaded with food.

"Isn't this a bit too much? Food is pretty important, you know," Pariston asked Beyond, raising an eyebrow.

"Don't worry. With Sir Larry in charge, food won't be a problem," Beyond replied with a hearty laugh.

His confidence eased the concerns of others who were still uneasy.

Everyone aboard the ship wasn't foolish; they all knew how crucial food was.

They just didn't understand what method Sir Larry had to handle it.

But if Beyond said it was fine, then it must be.

One by one, people took their seats, except for Ging.

He stood with his arms crossed and quietly asked Beyond, "I've got one question. Our ship will dock at the shores of the Dark Continent, right?

How are we going to keep it safe? If the ship gets damaged, we won't be able to..."

"Get back."

The plan was to dock once they reached the Dark Continent and then explore on foot, just like the V5 expeditions had done before.
