My hand remained raised. The gavel was still in my grip, but no matter how I tried to move my fingers, they refused to listen.
The courtroom was quiet.
Even the sound of the rain no longer reached me.
"You've been affected by me for too long."
The doctor's voice came clearly through the silence.
It lowered its hand from the railing and turned fully towards me.
"I applaud you for trying this. Truly. But I'm afraid it's a little too late."

Its shoe pressed against the wooden floor.
I watched it approach, my eyes remaining fixed on the small holes in the porcelain mask.
The pressure behind my eyes grew stronger, a soft ticking sound echoing within my mind.
It was a familiar feeling.
One I was quite tired of experiencing.
"You've certainly made it harder for me to meet my patients in the future."
The doctor stopped beside the railing.
Its head turned slightly towards the entrances before returning to me.
"But that's nothing more than a small hurdle."
