Chapter 26 - Chapter 26

Hopefully, Gabby had not seen a thing and tried to look normal. She hoped that the color on her cheeks wasn't showing much.

"Xavier and You......…"

She couldn't discern Gabby's tone................ Had she seen something? Was she upset or anything?

"Hey, I mean morning, no afternoon mam, it's nice to meet you."

She could see Xavier chuckling, he wasn't making matters any better. She tried not to glare at him.

"I know you," Gabby replied.

Her heart jumped, and she swallowed.

"Yes, I'm an employee here, and if you will excuse me, I have to head back to work."

Before Xavier could reply, she dashed out of his office and sat by her station, where so many emotions ran through her.

Her heart still raced, and her face was flushed.

"The minute Gabby arrives, he throws you out," Carrie whispered.

She could tell that her friend was a bit bitter, but Gabby had saved her immensely. Everyone would know that she was his top priority, yet the kiss whispered to her.

"Yeah…" She replied hazily.

Ayla could not stop thinking about the kiss, and him saying that he is attracted to her. Now what?

Gabby was here, and there was no way she could compete with her, and Ayla knew that everyone would disapprove of their relationship.

Yet his touch lingered, being in his arms was exhilarating, and she wanted to be in them once more.

"Earth to Ayla."

She turned to Casandra and the other girls, oh yeah, she had just stumbled towards them.

She needed to pay better attention before somebody found her out.

"What are you thinking about?" Shelly asked.

"She has been like this. The boss called her, and she came back when Gabby arrived." Carrie replied.

"He called you to his office?" Antonella asked in disbelief.

Ayla hit herself mentally in the head, She was not helping herself.

"It was for a work project." The lie spilled out before she could stop herself.

"Gabby?" Delia asked.

"Tell us everything, Ayla."

"She just barged in and said she knew me, then I left." She replied, trying not to stutter.

"Wow, that bitch." Antonella replied.

"Talk about it," Shelly added.

"Bummer, for a second, I too was beginning to think that he might actually like you," Antonella replied.

"Really?" This time it was Casandra.

"There were too many coincidences, don't tell me that it hadn't crossed your mind."

"No!" Cassandra replied.

"Be honest," Antonella replied.

"Fine, but it was always crushed immediately," Cassandra replied.

"I have always said it from the get-go that I have always been suspicious of Ayla and the boss." This time it was Carrie.

"I have to go with Cassandra, but further. I have never thought that the boss would want Ayla. He is too comfortable around her for there to be any sexual attraction. She is like a sister to him or reminds him of someone he knew." This time it was Shelly.

"You are spot on, Shelly," Cassandra replied.

"I'm not going to lie, this whole thing of the boss calling you nonstop is getting more strange." This time, it was Delia who ignited the flame once more that was about to die down.

"I thought I was the only one who felt that way," Carrie replied.

"It's not my decision to be called, I also don't want to."

"Do you think he has feelings for you?" Casandra asked.

"No, I don't think so, his eyes are set on Gabby. I could tell with the way he was looking at her."

"Understandable. But that just dampens the workplace if they get back together." Casandra replied.

"Totally, can't she just let him go?" Shelly replied.

"Have you seen the man? If I were Gabby, I would also not let him go."

"I wish he had given us one of us a chance," Shelly whined.

"But would you be happy with whom he chose?"

Ayla hadn't meant to say her private thought out loud.

"I mean, we would have to accept it," Cassandra replied.

"We have to lose him to a worthy opponent," Antonella added.

Ahhhhh got it, she was not deemed worthy enough for a man like Xavier because of her looks. Their shallowness was on another level; at least she had Sammy.

"We will have to see how everything unravels," Carrie replied.

"Lucky how Gabby can just walk up to his office," Delia added.

"I know, right?" Shelly added.

"I wonder what they are doing right now?" Cassandra asked.

"Hopefully not having hot sex." Antonella let out gloomily.

"Don't put such a picture in my head, please," Carrie replied.

They headed back to their work stations, and Ayla felt hot, remembering what Xavier had said to her.

She did not know what to do next, and would he call for her once more? The office hours finished, and Ayla realised that Gabby was still in his office.
