I should have known.
I should have trusted my instincts when I first saw her at the apartment. The way she moved, the shape of her eyes, the fire in her voice, it was all too familiar. I'd spent years convincing myself that Alessia was gone, that she had died three years ago, but deep down, I had never let go.
And now, Nico has confirmed it.
The evidence was undeniable. Documents, locations, traces of her movements in the past three years, every trail she thought she had covered, every name she thought she had buried.
Alessia Romano was alive. And she was right under my nose.
I gripped the steering wheel as I watched her through the windshield, walking into a supermarket near her apartment. She was alone, her hair pulled into a loose ponytail, dressed casually in jeans and a fitted jacket. Just another woman out for groceries.
But I knew better. I knew her better.
