At eleven o'clock at night, Jake called Karlos at the hospital.
Karlos stepped out of Berlin's room into the hallway, keeping the door cracked so he could still see her through the gap.
"What did you find?" he asked, skipping any greeting.
"I found the backup server," Jake said.
Karlos went still. "There's a backup?"
"There is always a backup. Whoever deleted the main footage either did not know about the redundant server, or did not have access to it." Jake paused. "I have everything from the night in question."
Karlos exhaled slowly. "What does it show?"
"Kate helped you to your room at 10:15, as she told you. She left at 10:31. Alone." Jake's voice was careful and precise. "You never left your room. You were asleep before she reached the bottom of the stairs. Nothing else entered or left your room until 6:45 the next morning when you woke up."
"She lied," Karlos said. Not a question.
"Yes, Sir."
