Chapter 293 - Blood and Death

Following Jason's roar, the modified RV with its thick layers of armor pulled up diagonally in the middle of the road. There were numerous firing ports and a great many gun barrels protruded from all of them, and everyone — at least those in the front of the convoy — launched a counterattack.

Bang Bang Bang Bang!

"Zz... Rear teams, intercept the enemy."

With the order given, the two rear Humvees with machine guns split to both sides and began to attack the enemy.

For a moment, gunfire thundered furiously along this usually quiet road, drawing the attention of the nearby walkers heading toward the town. The walkers, originally scattered, gradually gathered into a small horde and moved toward both groups engaged in the shooting.

The people stationed on the roads were not unprepared; everyone was ready at this moment, and Jason could clearly feel numerous impacts of bullets against the armor of the modified RV, but after return fire began the incoming shots lessened — perhaps some had gotten into trouble with the walkers outside.

On the other side, Hiro, who was outside, was actually scolding as if his dead mother were there. His current situation had become very complicated.

On the one hand, it was the boss's order that they had to stop the enemies here, and on the other hand they had to deal with the walkers gathered around. The only advantage they had was that they had brought lots of ammunition and positioned themselves in good places.

"Pay attention to the damned dead, you fucking idiots — kill them before they get to our necks! Did you hear me clearly? The boss said we must stop them at this point and he means it for an hour. No one is to shit themselves now, or we'll all die here."

"Agustín, take some people to the rear to clear the walkers, don't let them get close. If you hold for a while, there won't be many more problems here."

After explaining everything clearly, Hiro returned his attention to the convoy not far from his position. Right now half of them were around the front side and the other half were being directed toward the rear of the enemy convoy.

Taking advantage of the moment when the convoy was under attack, they also drove some cars onto the road, and when they turned on the headlights to illuminate the area, they had completely surrounded the enemy.

Hiro saw the lights behind the opposing convoy and knew that the rest of the team had completed the encirclement; he smiled and shouted loudly.

"All right, keep attacking! First we need to suppress the enemy's attack! They don't have many weapons; while we wait, we'll win."

"Oh, oh, oh!"

The group of people below made strange noises. Now they were very excited. In their opinion, all the weapons of those people who had been in the shelters they attacked had been taken — it was impossible that everyone would be armed at this moment.

So, even though they knew there were at least three hundred people on the other side, there was no pressure.

Everyone in the modified RV noticed the rear attack that had been repelled by the Humvees, but Jason didn't worry about that. The trucks they had prepared didn't have many advantages, except that the exterior armor of those trucks was fully reinforced. If they accelerated, no one's life would be in danger.

Glenn saw the enemy's weapons through a firing port.

"Jason, we can go straight to the front — it looks like they've split their forces."

Jason shook his head, dismissing the remark. Since the other side might think to attack from front to back, how could they not judge that they could just cut straight through the enemy? If their force was now divided, what does that determine?

"Daryl, wait for my signal to turn on the roof lights."

"Okay."

Picking up the rifle at his side, Jason moved to a firing port at the rear and watched intently.

"Now!"

At this moment the tension in his eyes eased considerably. Facing the dazzling light, he squeezed the trigger in his hand continuously.

Bang Bang Bang! Bang Bang Bang!

With the sound of the shots, the headlights of several cars on the opposite side were turned off one by one, and soon there was only a faint light coming from the rear.

"Zi... Whoever's in the last car, attack without stopping."

"This is T-doy, what's up, Captain?"

"Turn off the rear headlights..."

"Roger."

Soon, there was a burst of shots from the rear, and the firing went on continuously for a long time. It was obvious that T-doy still needed to practice his aim.

But soon the Humvees' machine guns suppressing the enemy attack killed numerous people. Bullets rang out in the darkness, flashed among the bushes, and fired without mercy.

After a few seconds, the lights around them gradually went out, and finally everything went completely black after Jason told Daryl to turn off the lights.

Darryl was watching the position of the light switch; he had already adjusted the direction and was only waiting for an order to press it again.

"Don't worry, wait a bit longer; they should be the ones getting anxious now."

"Zz... Reloading ammunition, standing by to attack."

"Zz... We have three boxes of ammo left, we need to consider that."

"Zz... Understood."

The Saviors on both sides of the convoy worried. They fired many times but caused no damage to the enemy. The sound of bullets hitting the metal exterior of those trucks made them understand that all the trucks were armored.

And for a while the other side had not fired any more shots, which made them feel very uneasy. Walkers roaming in the dark woods kept coming out and they couldn't see how many of the monsters were behind them at the moment.

A small group of walkers came out from between the two convoys. Attracted by the noise, they walked toward a man at the other end of the Saviors. Those in that unit were dealing with the walkers at their side and didn't notice that there were more walkers behind them.

Ahhh! Crack!

Just after those Saviors raised their weapons and fired at the walkers coming out from both sides, some were bitten — large chunks of flesh were torn away and there were sudden screams of pain. And just as someone was about to call for help, the walkers threw him to the ground.

"Ahhhhh!"

The shrill screams sounded, making the people a little farther away nervous, but the surroundings were still in total darkness and visibility was very low. They could still vaguely see that it looked like someone was being killed by a group of walkers.

Their psychological defenses began to collapse, and several people were already secretly watching the surrounding environment, trying to escape while taking advantage of the chaos.

But at that moment, a laser from above the modified RV aimed at their side and, after feeling a strange sensation on their foreheads, they fell to the ground unconscious.

Accompanied by a burst of gunfire, several young men with their eyes open were shot in the head one after another.

"Zz... Targets in the bushes at twelve o'clock on my watch."

Bang Bang Bang Bang!

Hiro and many of the men who had their eyes wide open suddenly shut them when a strong light flashed again from the modified RV, and they only felt something warm on their faces.

Stretching out a hand to wipe his face, he discovered it was blood and was about to bend over, but suddenly in his dazed state his eyes lost their shine.

Bang!

At the moment someone took position at the firing port of the modified RV, red and white things splattered everywhere. Several men who were still killing walkers saw that the situation was bad, fired a few shots with the weapons in their hands, and then ran toward the nearby woods.

But that was enough for the machine gun bullets to target them and kill all those running.

Like dominoes, originally only a few people fled, but the next moment almost everyone began to run.

The shots behind them that sounded every five seconds were like a deadly scythe; a person would fall with each shot, which scared the people around them even more, and they couldn't help but scramble away faster. At this point, any order from the boss was worthless compared to their lives.

In less than a minute, those members of the Saviors who had attacked had fled. Jason had not planned to eliminate the other side completely, since they had time to waste in this place.

"All right, that's enough. The important thing now is to get back."

After speaking, Jason and an elite team moved forward in formation. Only then did they see a row of spike chains.

If they went straight through right now, the tires of the trucks behind would definitely explode, and getting these people back to the settlement would become a problem.

Jason stowed the gear and went straight to the car, while Glenn, to one side, said a little embarrassed, "Fortunately you didn't decide to advance like I suggested — I didn't think of this."

"Suggestions are always good; your idea was the most logical of all. Since these guys set a trap here to intercept you, it means they still have something in store. The most important thing is to get out of here as soon as possible."

After warning the trucks at the rear, the modified RV led the way and once everyone got in they began to head to Alexandria.

About half an hour later, a group of bloodied people left the town, led by the man in the leather jacket with a scar on his face.

These people had obviously lost many people. It seemed the explosion had just caused them a lot of damage. The scar-faced man looked at the corpses lying on the ground and the cars that had been pushed over, and said in a tone full of coldness,

"Return to the checkpoint and pack the weapons. Those who dare attack me like this are only seeking their own death."
