From "1" to "5," in truth only an extremely brief span of time had passed.
After being "touched" once by Miltank, the Two-Headed Demon was visibly enraged.
The degree of force it exerted rose sharply; the muscles of the right arm gripping the Bloodthirsty Giant Axe bulged ever more, thick, long blood vessels surfacing through the skin, making the scars upon its arm stand out as if they were about to split open.
"Haa!"
The Two-Headed Demon viciously stamped its foot.
The "5" above the "Mobius Bug"'s head instantly leapt to "6."
Immediately after, when it glared with its blood-red eyes and swung the giant axe down at the "Mobius Bug," it was as though hacking through a thousand layers of jelly—its eyes obviously slanted upward, all four eyes blood-red, its momentum astonishing in the extreme, yet the posture of its axe-swing was soft and feeble, like a two-headed maiden without the strength to truss a chicken.
Exceedingly strange.
However, having adapted to that sensation of discomfort, the Two-Headed Demon was clearly already able to exert force better within this force field.
Although its axe was extremely slow, it was nonetheless approaching the "Mobius Bug" at a steady, definite speed.
But just as the axe blade was about to make contact, the "6" above the "Mobius Bug"'s head finally jumped to "7."
This meant the "Mobius Bug"'s "Energy Scale" had reached its peak.
The energy it absorbed and converted through the "Mobius Ring" was all stored within the "Energy Scale," and the moment it reached its peak, the force field of the "Mobius Ring" would instantly vanish.
The Two-Headed Demon abruptly recovered its strength, and its whole body was thereby thrown slightly off balance, but it seized the momentum to lean forward, bloody light igniting upon the giant axe, its violent bellow surging straight up to the ceiling.
That single axe-stroke gathered power at an extremely rapid speed, and in the very instant it, accompanied by the Two-Headed Demon's violent bellow, hacked viciously down upon the "Mobius Bug"'s body, the buzzing hum continuously emitted from within the "Mobius Bug"'s core instantly erupted!
That was the Ultimate Move whose power had originally been almost 0—"Supersonic"!
But after the "Energy Scale" reached its peak, all the energy the "Mobius Bug" had absorbed was released in full through this "Supersonic"!
Although there would be great loss in the conversion of energy, the power of this "Supersonic" nevertheless exceeded the limit that a first-tier Magic Guide Spirit could reach.
The instantly detonating supersonic wave spread outward like a tide.
The Two-Headed Demon, closest of all, met the impact head-on—and was actually blown flying outright by that "Supersonic"!
It could never in a thousand ways have imagined that, at the very moment it was about to slay the "Mobius Bug," this pitch-black round ball could actually unleash so terrifying an impact!
Had it been merely a physical impact, that would have been one thing.
Its brain was assaulted by the sound waves, and that detonating shriek—extremely similar to the sound made by fingernails scratching glass—stimulated its two heads until they nearly burst!
More chaotic memory fragments thereby came welling out.
"Bam!"
After plummeting down, the Two-Headed Demon let out an anguished wail.
The face of the lion head Leon contorted because of it, and it suddenly slammed viciously into the bull head on its right side.
The bull head Talen, having taken this collision, grew all the redder in both eyes, and whipped its head around to strike back viciously.
The two sides actually began ramming into each other.
But this peculiar scene was not noticed by too many people.
The young Magic Guide Masters, after being caught up in the indiscriminate sound-wave attack, all clutched their heads one after another in agony.
Although they had not borne the impact, that piercing sound wave was still hard to endure.
For a moment, neither side retained any fighting spirit in that brief span.
Only Miltank was still persistently, unflaggingly rolling.
Having broken free of the force field's range, the power it had accumulated through four rolls gradually erupted.
The airflow produced by its high-speed spinning had already wrapped its body all around, turning it into something like a storm-wheel, abnormally terrifying.
That sound wave was screened off by the violent wind, and did not affect it much either.
Once it began rolling, including the airflow, its diameter had already exceeded five meters—and was even still swelling unceasingly!
Taking advantage of the Two-Headed Demon falling into Confusion, the storm-wheel formed by Miltank rolled faster and faster with an unstoppable, crushing momentum!
Its momentum seemed as if it could crush everything.
But it still wasn't enough!
Dark struggled to wrench himself free of the sound wave's influence, and then, hugging Eevee-chan, he barked out urgently: "Quick, use Helping Hand!"
"Bui..."
Eevee-chan let out a soft, sticky cry, and with its master's help forcibly braced its spirits, vigorously clapping its forepaws.
"Bui! Bui!"
Amid the applause, a snow-white radiance emanated from within its paws, and in an instant surged into Miltank's body.
Miltank at once felt a warm current pour into its heart.
While feeling the warmth, the energy within its body grew all the more active, and its power, which had already been amplified 32-fold, was actually boosted by a further 50%!
This meant the power of this roll of its was a full 1,440!
This was almost equivalent to three times the power of the Two-Headed Demon's charged strike wielding the giant axe!
Enough to instakill a Devimon of triple the stats!
...
At some unknown point, the young Magic Guide Masters had already forgotten the stinging pain in their brains; in their eyes there remained only that terrifying, unaware storm-wheel.
The storm-wheel, whose rolling diameter had probably already exceeded ten meters, rolled toward that Two-Headed Demon with a momentum frightening in the utmost.
Before the two sides' positions had even drawn near, the raging storm had already come assaulting in.
The Two-Headed Demon, stung by the storm, finally awoke a little from its Confusion.
The bull head Talen was as violent as ever, but the lion head Leon's eyes already revealed shock and horror.
Even amid the Demon race battlefields within its memory fragments, it had rarely seen such terrifying magic.
Recalling this Miltank's rolling, one time after another, a trace of dread abruptly welled up within the heart of the lion head Leon.
The opponents were no careless, inadvertent intruders.
They were subjugators who had come well prepared!
But just as the "wise" lion head produced the intent to retreat, the "violent" bull head seized sovereign control over the body.
"Conquer!"
The bull head Talen, raising the giant axe anew, faced the Miltank that could crush it into fragments—and after a furious, raging roar, charged forward like a mantis trying to stop a chariot!
Blood had long since dyed its two eyes red.
The desire to slaughter boiled over once more.
It was as though it had returned to the battlefield of its former life.
Without the slightest hesitation, it charged toward the most perilous enemy.
"Kill!"
"Moo!"
Bull and bull, under the gazes of all, collided in the fiercest of impacts within this hall!
The dark-red giant axe sliced through the air, and crimson bloody mist surged and burst forth.
The storm came howling, flattening everything!
The Two-Headed Demon's giant axe hacked head-on into the storm-wheel, but in but an instant was swept up and flung away by the violent wind force.
The web of its hand was shattered by the shock, blood pouring out like a fountain.
"Roar!"
A terrifying roar, as though it were forcing the very life out of itself.
The Two-Headed Demon, even with its weapon out of hand, brazenly launched a Wild Bull Charge.
"BOOM!"
This collision held not the slightest suspense.
The first to be crushed to pieces were the shoulder and arm.
After that came half of its body and the nearby bull head on the right side.
That surviving lion head let out, in its final moment, the howl of life fading away, the dignity it had borne at the instant it first opened its eyes now seeming as if it had never existed at all.
Fear took root in its soul.
But for it, who had already become history upon the battlefield, what came rushing toward it was no more than death once again.
The Floor BOSS of the dungeon's second floor, the Two-Headed Demon Talen·Leon·Kainssatt, was utterly crushed to pieces by Miltank.
...
Not a single shred of material remained.
The Two-Headed Demon directly turned into scattered points of mana, blossoming and fading away like fireworks.
Dust returns to dust, earth returns to earth.
It re-entered the cycle of the dungeon once more.
...
After this single strike, the high-speed spinning airflow around Miltank's body swiftly vanished.
Dizzily, on tiptoe, it spun two circles, then plopped down on its rump onto the ground.
And the murmuring discussion of the young Magic Guide Masters also suddenly arose at this very moment.
Dark had never used Miltank's "Rollout" in public before; no one had known that this adorable little milk-cow actually possessed so terrifying an Ultimate Move.
That final rolling attack just now made one doubt whether even a third-tier Magic Guide Spirit could withstand it.
Had this scene appeared at the Rookie Tournament, it would have been enough to drive every spectator wild.
Dark Demon truly was a rising star of tomorrow!
...
"Is it over?"
Emma Metis, forcibly suppressing the shock within her heart, cautiously walked to Dark's side.
Dark knitted his brows and observed carefully for a moment, then said hesitantly: "Probably?"
Because he truly didn't understand this Floor BOSS well enough, nor did he know whether it possessed a secret art of rebirth like Vampire Vlad's.
And so for now he didn't dare assert it.
But Sarah Swati strode over and remarked offhandedly: "Even its ashes have been scattered—how could it possibly come back to life?"
Diana: "Ashes? Wasn't it mana that scattered away?"
Rose beckoned with a wave of her hand, recalling the "Mobius Bug"—all of whose skills had once again entered cooldown—back into the Magic Guide Card.
The other students, their discussion growing ever louder, also came over one after another.
Within the empty hall, voices echoed lingeringly.
Dark bent down, steadying the Miltank that came wobbling over, then clutched its cheeks with both hands and rubbed vigorously, saying softly: "Well done!"
"Moo!"
Miltank immediately perked up its spirits, patting a hand against its own chest to indicate that it could still fight on.
"Bapchi!"
"Yibu!"
Shuckle's and Eevee's heads also poked in along with it, leaving Dark glancing left and right.
Dragging weary steps, Gatomon came over and stood quietly at Dark's side.
Dark came back to himself, and at once scooped it up into his arms: "Of course I wouldn't forget the most well-behaved Gatomon."
Upon Gatomon's somewhat enervated, pale cheeks, an unusual flush at once overflowed.
Only after Dark set it down did he raise his head and gaze into the distance, whereupon he saw the last one, Meowth, circling round and round that Bloodthirsty Giant Axe.
It evidently wanted to take this giant axe into its own treasure vault, yet it also felt some apprehension toward its life-devouring nature.
With the Two-Headed Demon now reduced to ashes, this giant axe was probably the most precious spoil of war.
"I wonder whether, at the end of this hall, there might still be hidden one of those dungeon-distinctive treasure chests?"
Dark, his thoughts reaching this point, couldn't help blurting it out.
Reminded by him, Diana's eyes at once lit up, and she shouted loudly: "That's right, there's still the treasure chest!"
Doron was still immersed in the joy of defeating the Floor BOSS, and now he too immediately bellowed along: "A treasure chest guarded by a Floor BOSS ought to have good stuff, right?"
And so more students gave their responses, and the topic everyone was discussing at once turned to the as-yet-undiscovered treasure chest.
But for all their talk, not a single one of them rushed forward to search.
Just as Dark felt a touch of bewilderment, he suddenly discovered that everyone's gazes had fallen upon his face.
He couldn't help being slightly stunned for a moment, and then said candidly: "In that case, let's go find the treasure chest."
"Hooray!"
"(^o^)/-"
"ヽ(???)ノ..."
Led by Diana and Doron, the young Magic Guide Masters at once ran excitedly toward the interior of the hall.
"There shouldn't be any more danger, right?"
Dark couldn't avoid showing a trace of relaxation.
He hadn't actually recalled the Magic Guide Spirits into the Magic Guide Cards, and had even used an "Energy Potion" to replenish some mana for Gatomon.
In the blink of an eye, only Emma, Rose, Sara, and Sara's follower Heidi remained at his side.
Of the party of ten, half had charged toward the interior of the hall.
Even though no light shone over there, it could not block their enthusiasm.
The Noble House girl in Doron's group merely took out a Magic Guide Card and summoned forth a glowing orb of light, illuminating the surroundings.
"Let's head over too."
Dark drew a breath and started off.
He skirted around the Meowth that was still circling beside the Bloodthirsty Giant Axe, and walked toward that skeletal throne perched atop the high dais.
In this entire hall, only this skeletal throne was the most eye-catching.
...
Within the shadow behind the throne, a monster shaped like a rat poked its head out from the shadows.
It lifted its nose and sniffed, and its face actually revealed a humanized expression of disappointment.
"Already dead? It seems I've come too late."
That monster glanced left and right, then suddenly pricked up its ears; hearing the sound of footsteps approaching, it immediately slipped into the shadows and vanished in the blink of an eye.
...
Dark walked to the rear of the skeletal throne and, slightly puzzled, took a look, but discovered nothing out of the ordinary.
He shook his head and turned to leave.
Then, not long after, the little fatty Pistan called out loudly: "Found it, I found it!"
"So there really is a treasure chest."
Only then did Dark smile, and he hurried over with his Magic Guide Spirits in tow.
A treasure chest—now that was naturally a good thing.
With the Two-Headed Demon now reduced to ashes, only a treasure chest could soothe his grief.
...
Pistan deliberately waited until everyone had gathered before having his Magic Guide Spirit go up to open the chest.
It was an antique bronze-colored treasure chest, roughly a meter in length and width, the ashes covering it giving off an aura of age.
The chest's clasp was locked with an iron chain.
But Pistan's Magic Guide Spirit simply snapped the clasp off, rendering the iron chain a mere formality.
"Seems it isn't a Treasure Chest Mimic."
The young Magic Guide Masters breathed a slight sigh of relief.
Then that Magic Guide Spirit flung the lid of the chest violently open in one go!
Rushing toward their faces...
was an abruptly billowing cloud of dust!
The several people standing closer hurriedly covered their mouths with their hands, but were still made to cough endlessly.
Once the dust dispersed, they finally saw clearly the items within the chest.
The first thing to meet their eyes was a layer of gold coins spread over the top.
"It's Demon race currency!"
The voices of Sara and Emma rang out almost simultaneously.
