Mabel Quinn only felt that right now Kyle Kinston's whole state seemed a bit off. "Kyle, clear your head. Are you really planning to stain your own hands with blood? Whatever happened when you were nine, I don't care. Just because Francine Howards said something, you're going to let her get to you?"

He looked at his own hand still clamped around Francine Howards's neck and abruptly realized that just now he had actually dared, because of Francine's words, to want to kill her.
What she'd said had touched on those forbidden things he'd always wanted to hide. Now he had finally, with great difficulty, managed to be with Mabel again—how could he allow Francine Howards to destroy his happiness?!
