As usual, she told the little one fairy tales, and the little one listened attentively. However, unlike before, Mabel's storytelling didn't prompt the usual torrent of 'why' questions from the little one, who instead quietly listened to the stories.
Mabel understood in her heart that her daughter, having gone through this catastrophe, was different from before.
