It did not take long for the four men and the reindeer to reach the edge of a high cliff. Despite the drop, they did not slow down. Since every member of the group had developed the ability to move through the air, they had no reason to fear the heights. However, as soon as they stepped off the ledge, they realized they weren't falling; instead, they could continue running upward as if they were on solid ground. The discovery left them completely stunned.
"Hahaha! This is amazing! I am running in the sky!" Luffy shouted, laughing as he sprinted to the front of the group.
Usopp, Chopper, Jango, and Mr. 3 were equally amazed by the incredible phenomenon. It was an eye-opening experience on a truly magical island. Even more shocking was the fact that the herd of striped pigs seemed used to it; the animals showed no fear of the cliff and continued their chase into the open air. It was clear that this strange phenomenon was linked to the pigs themselves. Eventually, thanks to their superior speed, Luffy and his friends managed to lose the herd.
While Usopp and the others were exhausted, Luffy remained full of energy, looking like he wanted to go back and tease the pigs again. Fortunately, Usopp knew how to stop him.
"Luffy, it is getting late," Usopp said, using his best trump card. "If we don't head back now, we will miss dinner".
"Dinner? You're right! Sanji must be cooking. Let's go!" Luffy agreed immediately.
The group headed back toward the Thousand Sunny, each carrying a striped pig they had hunted. As they reached the shore, the delicious scent of a barbecue filled the air. Sanji had set up a large pot and was busy adding fresh cuts of pork to the mix.
"Sanji! Give me meat!" Luffy yelled.
"It will be ready soon," Sanji replied without looking up. "Go put those pigs you're carrying with the others".
Several groups had explored the island that day, and all of them had encountered the striped pigs. Marianne and the Lion King had brought back so many that the carcasses were piled up like a small mountain. Seeing the excellent quality of the meat, Sanji was inspired to show off his culinary skills with several new recipes.
Once the pigs were dealt with, the crew gathered around the fire with Carl and the others to share their stories. Most had similar tales of hunting, though Luffy's story was the most unusual since he had triggered a stampede of 10,000 pigs. They also discussed the strange ability to run on the air, guessing it might be caused by magnetic fields, special weather, or a Devil Fruit user. When they turned to Carl for an answer, he simply spread his hands; even he didn't know the cause this time.
"These pigs are quite strong, so we are going to use them," Carl announced. "Starting tomorrow, everyone except me, Luffy, Zoro, Sanji, Marianne, the Lion King, and Law will spend their time fighting the pigs".
"Wait, we're fighting pigs?" someone asked, confused.
"It is training," Carl explained seriously. "Those who haven't awakened Haki will use this chance to find it. Those who already have it will use this to strengthen their skills. It is a great opportunity to exercise. Plus, the meat is highly nutritious and will help build your strength".
No one objected to the training. Luffy, however, spoke up. "Mr. Carl, what about me? Don't I need to train?".
Carl rolled his eyes. "I have nothing left to teach you. You can go on an adventure or fight the Pig God—whatever you want. Just make sure the pigs people defeat are brought back so you can eat as much as you want".
"Unlimited meat? That is amazing!" Luffy's eyes sparkled. He had no problem with Carl's arrangements, as he trusted Carl's training methods and loved the idea of staying on an island full of food.
Soon, Sanji began serving the dishes. The pork was incredibly delicious, and combined with Sanji's cooking, it was a feast like no other. By the time night fell, everyone was stuffed. Sanji, happy to see everyone enjoying the food, began marinating the leftover meat to experiment with even better recipes the next day.
The next morning, Carl woke up on the lookout tower feeling a bit frustrated. Robin had told him the night before that she would be focusing entirely on her training. To save her energy, she had decided she wouldn't be "serving" him at night and had even kicked him out of the room. Carl realized his training plan had backfired on him personally, but he could only hope she awakened her Haki quickly so things could go back to normal.
After breakfast, the crew split up to enter the island. Their only task was to find striped pigs to fight. Carl stayed behind, floating high above on his giant sword. He kept his Observation Haki active, monitoring everyone to ensure they stayed safe while they pushed themselves to their limits.
While the others trained, the strongest members did as they pleased. Luffy headed for the center of the island. Zoro practiced his "Divine Departure" technique, Sanji focused on his cooking, and Law found a quiet spot to study his Op-Op Fruit powers. Marianne enjoyed tea and biscuits, and the Lion King napped.
Carl didn't mind the experts relaxing, but he insisted the others keep training. Even though they had improved since the Boeing Islands, they still weren't strong enough to handle everything the New World might throw at them. The crew understood this and treated the day like their old training routines, ready to get stronger.
