Denzel looked over the document clipped to the heavy cardboard backing, ticking off the last of the equipment needed for the new batch of trainers.
He scrawled his signature at the bottom and handed the board to his junior, who was waiting to begin the procurement process.
"Get these ordered tonight," he directed.
He checked his watch: six in the evening. The day had been long, but his mind had never quite left the silent house where he'd left Juniper. He grabbed his phone and keys from the desk, heading straight for his car.
The drive back was shorter. When he arrived, he entered the security code into the keypad and stepped inside.
To his surprise, the house felt exceptionally quiet. The air was still, and the aggressive spike of Juniper's pheromones had faded completely.
Denzel set his keys on the entryway table, his eyes moving toward the stairs.
