"Ralts~"
A crisp, clear cry rang out.
Silas, who had been deep in thought, lowered his head slightly and smiled at the Ralts that had suddenly appeared in front of him.
"Did you say goodbye to your friends?"
he asked.
"Ral~"
Ralts nodded.
"Then let me introduce you properly—Silas Alaric, your future partner, someone you can entrust your back to."
Silas extended his hand.
"Ralts~"
Using its psychic power, Ralts floated gently into the air and reached out its small hand to grasp Silas's palm.
"From now on, you can stay on my shoulder."
Silas spoke eagerly.
He'd wanted one of his Pokémon to learn the 'Pika-Style' shoulder-riding trick for a long time.
It was just that the earlier-stage forms of his other Pokémon weren't exactly suitable for it.
"Won't I cause trouble?"
A young, tender voice echoed in Silas's mind.
Ralts was well aware of its value in the eyes of humans.
Its guardian had emphasized this point to it more than once.
Silas felt a surge of satisfaction.
See? This is what being sensible looks like. The seniors should really learn from the juniors.
"Don't worry. It'll be fine."
He lifted Ralts up and placed it directly on his shoulder, reassuring it as he did so.
Ralts instinctively grabbed onto Silas's clothes.
Even though, with its psychic power, falling was never a concern, this kind of experience was entirely new to it.
Nearby, Ampharos blinked its small, bean-like eyes.
Only now did it realize something important.
If Ralts joined the team, then it would finally no longer be the youngest.
Its chest puffed out immediately.
"Ampha~"
Ampharos called out.
Ralts turned its head and looked at this senior Pokémon, which felt rather… simple-minded in its psychic perception.
"Ampha, ampha~"
Ampharos tried its best to put on a serious expression with its cute face.
Ralts obediently nodded.
Ampharos's tail swayed unconsciously, a brilliant yellow electric arc flashing across it.
So this is what it feels like to be a senior… this is great.
"Don't bully Ralts."
Silas reached out and tapped Ampharos lightly on the head.
Ampharos: ?
It didn't understand.
However, as Ralts's psychic waves brushed against it, Ampharos's mood instantly improved again.
Who knew what Ralts had said to it.
Silas glanced at the two Pokémon but didn't interfere.
No matter what, this was a good thing.
With Ampharos's help, Ralts would probably integrate into the team very quickly.
A blue light screen gradually appeared as Silas's vision shifted.

Among all this information, one particular detail immediately caught Silas's eye.
"Wait, why is it that none of my other Pokémon ever had their gender explicitly displayed, but Ralts does?"
He was deeply dissatisfied.
Is my cheat system malfunctioning? Does it need maintenance or something?
Sensing its Trainer's unstable mood, Ralts paused its conversation with Ampharos and looked up.
"It's nothing. You two keep chatting."
Silas calmed himself, gently patting its head.
"But still… isn't this Ralts's move list a little too luxurious?"
He felt dizzy looking at the densely packed list of moves.
His Pidgeot, on the verge of breaking into the Elite tier, might not even know this many moves.
And this was only Ralts's first evolutionary stage.
Silas sighed in amazement.
Then again, when he thought about Ralts's parent, an Elite Four–level Gardevoir suddenly it all seemed reasonable.
After all, this little one had grown up alongside its parents.
Combat experience aside, its home education was unquestionably thorough.
Especially since not a single one of these moves was useless.
Its mastery of various field-based moves also indirectly showcased its extraordinary talent.
By comparison, having only one Egg Move—Disable—felt a little awkward.
Still, this was within Silas's expectations.
After all, the Gardevoir line belongs to the Amorphous Egg Group.
Pokémon that can become their mates and produce offspring are extremely limited.
Most Pokémon in the Amorphous Egg Group are based on amorphous organisms, spirits, or soft-bodied entities and many of them are Ghost-type.
Expecting Psychic-types and Ghost-types to fall in love, marry, and have children together was about as likely as getting hit by a meteor.
Not impossible, but absurdly mismatched in terms of natural compatibility.
In Silas's view, Arceus must have made a mistake when setting up the Egg Group system.
Unless Gardevoir simply went out looking for excitement on its own, having only one Egg Move was actually quite normal.
That said, the specific Egg Move still surprised him.
"Disable… Gardevoir itself can't pass that down, can it?"
He pondered uncertainly.
And Gardevoir wasn't even particularly suited to that kind of move.
"Could it be… the Alakazam line?"
Silas stroked his chin, slipping into academic mode.
As a half-researcher himself, he had a sharp instinct for these oddities.
Alakazam's Disable was famous throughout the Pokémon world.
Not only could it restrict movement, but it could also seal off moves entirely.
Using it effectively required a deep understanding of move mechanics—otherwise, the results would be subpar.
With its reputed IQ of 5,000, Alakazam had a massive advantage in this area.
However, the Alakazam line belongs exclusively to the Human-Like Egg Group.
If Ralts's parents were truly Alakazam and Gardevoir, then the Gardevoir line's Egg Group classification would need further expansion.
"Does this mean I can opportunistically write another research paper?"
Silas's first thought went straight there.
After all, there's no such thing as having too many skills.
No one ever complains about having one more academic title to their name.
Especially when it doesn't interfere with their primary profession.
If he could become the world's strongest Trainer and a Pokémon Professor at the same time, Silas would be more than happy to do it.
The prestige brought by those two titles together was far greater than a simple 1 + 1.
True to his decisive nature, Silas quickly confirmed the accuracy of his hypothesis—directly from Ralts itself.
"Looks like I'll need to contact Professor Elm when I get the chance."
Professional matters should be left to professionals.
Even if Professor Elm ended up lecturing him for an entire afternoon, Silas felt it was necessary.
Relying solely on his own words and Ralts's testimony, would never be sufficient to prove such a conclusion.
At the same time, Ralts also shared another piece of information with him.
Information about their origins.
And "they" didn't just mean the Gardevoir line, but the Alakazam line as well.
In short, both groups had arrived here by following the footsteps of Celebi.
The explanation felt both unexpected and completely natural.
Otherwise, how could two such rare and powerful Psychic-type Pokémon species appear in the same Ilex Forest?
Only a Mythical Pokémon could exert that kind of influence.
And it was precisely because of this influence that both the Alakazam and Gardevoir populations here possessed outstanding talent.
The idea that Legendary or Mythical Pokémon subtly improve their surrounding environments was no exaggeration.
Even Suicune, far from the strongest among Legendary Pokémon could purify lakes and bodies of water.
Celebi was on an entirely different level.
According to Ralts, its own potential was only considered above average within its clan.
Its mother wasn't the strongest member of the group either.
"Potential and future strength are never perfectly equal."
Silas's lips curved into a confident smile.
"I promise you, you'll become the strongest one in your entire clan."
This was his pride as a Trainer.
Reaching limits and then helping his Pokémon break through them, was the true meaning of a Trainer's existence.
As for battling?
That was merely a byproduct.
Innate Champion-level potential certainly offered advantages, like Blaziken.
But postnatal effort could never be ignored—like Pidgeot.
"Ral~"
Sensing Silas's unwavering confidence, Ralts responded excitedly.
Its red eyes, hidden beneath its bowl-cut fringe, gleamed with a different light.
In Silas's view, aside from having Trace instead of Synchronize as its standard Ability, this Ralts was flawless in every other respect.
Which, admittedly, was rather strange.
According to research data, roughly 90% of Ralts possessed Synchronize as their primary Ability, with only a small minority having Trace.
At one point, due to this overwhelming ratio, Pokémon researchers even believed that Telepathy was the Gardevoir line's special Ability rather than a Hidden Ability, while Trace was assumed to be the Hidden one.
It wasn't until the sample size increased that this theory was eventually discarded.
But nothing in this world is ever truly perfect.
Silas quickly put the minor regret out of his mind.
Trace was Trace.
With Zero at his disposal, this Ability wasn't necessarily worse than Synchronize.
"Alright, everyone we're heading out."
He clapped his hands, drawing his Pokémon's attention.
On the other side, Thousand Face had already finished preparing his gear.
The moment Ralts appeared, concerns about danger or insufficient strength were instantly thrown out of his mind.
Once adequate profit entered the equation, someone like Thousand Face, who lived in the shadows became frighteningly bold.
There was an old saying:
With 20% profit, people become active.
With 50% profit, they take risks.
With 100% profit, they dare trample League laws.
With 300% profit, they'll commit any crime—without fear of death.
That said, Thousand Face wasn't foolish enough to rush in blindly.
His battle-hardened body restrained his impulsive mind.
Before making a move, he decided to tail Silas for a while, to learn his habits and true strength.
Only then could he strike from below.
"Just wait, my little darling."
The strangely dressed Thousand Face let out a sinister chuckle.
Inside the cave, the cold atmosphere grew increasingly unsettling.
One Hour Later
After a grueling trek through Ilex Forest, Silas finally arrived at a new town—
Leaf Town.
"Will you be the 'Most Courageous One'?"
A massive banner hung at the town entrance.
Silas, who had come here precisely for this reason, didn't even spare it a glance as he walked straight in.
"W–Wow… that's a Ralts!"
"So cute~!"
"Gardevoir… my Gardevoir… hehehe~"
Before long, Silas, walking with Ralts perched on his shoulder, became the center of attention.
Some of the whispers reaching both him and Ralts carried… questionable undertones.
Ralts shifted uncomfortably.
It had never been stared at by so many people before.
"This is part of training too,"
Silas said reassuringly.
If it ever participated in official battles, the audience would only grow larger.
Ralts nodded firmly, showing it understood.
Silas had already emphasized this point on the road here.
But when the moment actually arrived, Ralts—having grown up far from humans within its clan, still felt uneasy.
Especially when the emotions radiating from the crowd didn't feel entirely benevolent.
Silas gently patted its head.
A Psychic-type Pokémon's heightened perception wasn't always a blessing.
"I'll take that Ralts. Name your price."
A middle-aged man dressed like a gentleman arrogantly blocked Silas's path.
Silas walked straight past him.
"I'm a Pokémon collector," the man shouted confidently. "Name any price you want! I'll even get you a pseudo-legendary!"
Silas raised his middle finger without turning around.
Ralts mimicked him, stretching out its tiny hand.
Even though it didn't technically have a middle finger, the gesture was unmistakable.
"What does that mean?" the gentleman muttered, baffled.
But Silas's attitude was unmistakably hostile.
He felt humiliated.
"One room. Two nights. Thank you."
Still under everyone's gaze, Silas and Ralts approached the Pokémon Center counter.
Silas presented his Trainer ID to Nurse Joy.
"Certainly. I'll take care of that right away."
Nurse Joy glanced curiously at Ralts before getting to work.
"Although you may already be aware," she added warmly, "I should remind you that Leaf Town's annual Trade Convention will be held tomorrow. Please don't miss it~"
