Nighttime rolls around.
At the medical center, in the VIP maternity ward.
Adam pops in during a break from surgery to chat with Monica.
The first to show up is Rachel, pushing little Emma in her stroller.
"Here comes the little princess!"
Adam nods at Rachel, then bends down to peek at his goddaughter Emma, who's staring up at him with big, curious eyes from her stroller.
The second Emma spots Adam leaning in, her tiny mouth puckers, and she turns her head to give Rachel the most pitiful look ever 😢.
"See? Emma's not even warming up to you!"
Rachel grumbles, "You're kinda slacking as a godfather, huh?"
"My bad," Adam admits with a grin. He knows Emma's probably still traumatized from the vaccine shots he gave her, but he owns up anyway. "I've been swamped lately. How about this? When Emma turns one, we'll throw a big bash to celebrate 🎉."
"Deal!"
Rachel beams at her daughter. "Did you hear that, Emma? Your godfather Adam's gonna show up for your birthday party! Excited yet?"
Emma giggles under her mom's teasing, and honestly, a kid's laugh is pure magic—especially with Emma inheriting Rachel's genes. She's just ridiculously cute 😍.
Add in her bond with Adam, and well, kids always feel extra special when they're "yours." Adam can't help but grin like an idiot.
"Adam, you should seriously think about settling down," Monica says from her bed, rubbing her big pregnant belly. She catches the way Adam's looking at Emma and chuckles. "Have a daughter of your own someday—you'll be so happy you'll keel over."
"No rush," Adam replies, shaking his head with a laugh.
He doesn't doubt Monica one bit. Between this life and his past one, he's seen how daughters turn guys into total softies—pure dad bliss.
"Adam, wait a sec. Have you been talking smack about me behind my back?"
Rachel, who'd been cooing at Emma, suddenly perks up and shoots him a suspicious look.
"Huh?"
Adam blinks, then it clicks. "Oh, you mean that snarky guy you met on the plane four years ago? Did he spill something to you?"
Rachel's eyes go wide. "How'd you know about that? He said not to tell anyone!"
"…"
Adam's speechless for a sec. Well, you just told me now, didn't you?
"What snarky guy? What's the deal?"
Monica, ever since getting pregnant, has been shielded from any upsetting news. She's totally out of the loop on this one and looks curious.
"Oh, that jerk…"
Rachel jumps in to explain, then turns back to Adam. "Wait, you actually know him?"
"Yup," Adam says with a smirk. "Let's just say… remember Roger?"
"Phoebe's psychologist ex? Duh, of course!" Monica and Rachel say in unison.
"The guy Rachel ran into? He's like Roger, but 100 times worse. Picture that."
Adam grins as he drops the bombshell.
"No way!" Monica shakes her head. "Roger could make anyone hate him with that psychology nonsense. Someone 100 times worse? Impossible."
"You don't believe me?"
Adam glances at them. "Roger's little psych tricks? This guy would crush him. He's a legit psychology master—he can see right through you.
And to roast you properly, he'll dig up all your secrets.
He'll spend money, time, even risk jail just to sneak into your house, snoop through your private stuff, and confirm his hunches.
All so he can throw it in your face.
So, compared to Roger, how's that sound?"
"Oh my God!"
"That's insane 😱!"
Monica and Rachel are both floored, jaws practically on the floor.
"Ahh!" Rachel suddenly yelps, piecing it together. "Adam, when he called me, was he trying to dig up dirt on you to throw in your face too?"
"Why else would he tell you to keep it from me?"
Adam shoots her a look. "He wanted to catch me off guard."
"So… what happened?" Rachel asks, looking guilty.
"I've got nothing to hide," Adam says confidently. "He came up empty-handed."
Emmm.
Not a lie, either. He had a totally open chat with Dr. House, laid out all his little plans upfront, and the guy was so moved by Adam's honesty that he backed off. Simple as that.
"That dude's the worst!" Rachel huffs, ticked off that House used her like that.
"Steer clear of him," Adam warns. "Don't even talk to him. If he gets curious about you, he'll mess with you 'til you snap. Guy's a total cynic—way too dangerous."
He knows House probably wouldn't blab about that old thing with Nora once he figured Adam out, but better safe than sorry. A heads-up to Rachel can't hurt.
"Got it, got it," Rachel nods like her life depends on it.
"Oh, and Emma's turning one in a month or so," Adam adds with a smile, switching gears. "Make sure you bring her by for her shots on time."
"Aw, poor Emma," Rachel and Monica say in sync, turning to coo at her chubby little face with pity 😔.
The last few vaccine rounds had Emma bawling her eyes out.
In this sitcom world, babies start their vaccine schedule right from birth.
First up: the hepatitis B shot—bam, day one.
Second dose between one and two months.
Third between six and eighteen months.
After six months, it's polio and flu shots.
The flu one's an annual deal.
Emma's closing in on 11 months now—she's already had five shots and five meltdowns.
And that's just the warm-up.
Once she hits one year in a month, it's a whole lineup: Hib, pneumococcal, MMR, chickenpox, hepatitis A, DTP, rotavirus… you name it.
These are all tried-and-true vaccines—you can even get them at the supermarket pharmacy counter.
But Adam insists Rachel bring Emma to the medical center so he can do it himself.
Even with safe vaccines, reactions can happen. At a top-tier hospital like this, with all the gear and expert docs on standby, any rare hiccup can be handled instantly—zero risk.
Leonard's seen how Adam treats Rachel and Emma like family, always thinking ten steps ahead without even being asked. It warms the old guy's heart.
He's lost count of how many times he's thanked his lucky stars for picking Adam.
While they're chatting, Ross and the gang swing by after work to check on Monica.
After some laughs and catching up, the crew heads out, leaving Chandler behind to stay with Monica.
This VIP room Adam set up for them? It's so nice, it's basically home away from home.
"Chandler," Adam says after everyone's gone, tossing him a heads-up. "We're not Rachel here. Let little Adam chill in Monica's belly as long as he wants. He'll come out when he's ready—no rush. So tonight, when you're keeping her company, don't go yelling '777,' okay?"
Monica: "(_)"
Chandler: "…"
