Chapter 137 - Overslept

Succubi Chapter 137. Overslept

The next morning was blissful.

Like… divinely blissful.

The kind of morning that made me think the gods personally sprinkled golden sunlight through the window and whispered, "You did well, my child."

My bed felt warmer than a freshly summoned fire elemental. The blankets were still tucked just right around me like the loving embrace of a harem I didn't technically own. And the light? Oh yeah, that soft halo of morning light filtered through my curtain, hitting me at the exact angle that made me look like the protagonist of an overpriced dating sim.

I smiled like a smug noble waking up in a luxury suite.

Stretched like some animated mattress model with zero spine issues.

My voice came out smooth, smug, and half-seductive to no one in particular.

"What a beautiful day…"

Except it wasn't.

Not even close.

Because the moment I turned my head and glanced at the clock…

06:52 AM.

Today's class starts at 07:20.

"Oh shiet!"

I shot out of bed like a possessed squirrel, limbs flailing, heart rate doubling, full panic mode activated. I tripped over my pillow, stepped on yesterday's sock, cursed the devil, the sun, and maybe my own bloodline in rapid fire order.

Half a second later, I had my toothbrush in one hand, toothpaste in the other, and was sprinting down the hallway like the world was ending.

Forget morning showers.

Screw steam.

Absolutely delete skincare. Okay, I didn't have one anyway.

This was wartime hygiene.

I practically body slammed into the shared dorm bathroom, nearly colliding with the doorframe. My reflection looked like someone had smacked a pillow into a startled raccoon. I wet the toothbrush under the faucet, squeezed toothpaste straight from the tube with enough force to summon a toothpaste demon, and attacked my teeth.

Foam. Everywhere. My mouth looked like a cursed soap dispenser.

While brushing, I simultaneously used my other hand to splash water onto my face like I was trying to baptize the stress out of me.

Clean-ish?

Good enough.

I spat, rinsed, spat again, then bolted back into my room. Opened the closet. No time for fashion decisions. I grabbed the first set of clean clothes that didn't scream "I gave up" and yanked them on like the house was on fire.

Deodorant. Check.

Cologne?

Almost empty.

I pointed the nozzle at my chest, pressed it down, and…

-pfffffshkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk!

I screamed internally.

I tilted it. Shook it. Willed it to work. Sprayed anyway.

A pathetic final puff of cold mist sprayed my collarbone.

Good enough.

I smelled like anxiety and sandalwood.

Bag? Check.

Notebook? Check.

Mana pen? Double check.

I zipped up, swung my bag onto my shoulder, and kicked open the door into the hallway.

I was flying.

Almost literally.

Because there was one last stop I refused to miss.

No matter how late. No matter how cursed. No matter if a meteor was falling from the sky or demons were clawing through the floor.

Breakfast.

I wasn't skipping breakfast.

Not now. Not ever.

I speed-walked to the dorm dining room like a man on a mission. The door opened with a dramatic creak that really didn't help the "I'm definitely not late" narrative.

"Morning," I announced like I hadn't just sprinted through a hurricane of my own creation.

Lilith looked up from the table, coffee in hand, absolutely flawless in her midnight silk robe like she hadn't aged a second since last night. Her voice was amused and dangerous.

"Well well… I thought you were going to miss class, Evan. I was this close to sending a notice to the academy claiming you were ill."

I winced, already halfway into my seat. "Overslept," I muttered. "Definitely not dead."

The dining table was nearly cleared out. All the other girls were already finishing or sipping their tea with the relaxed air of people who woke up at normal hours like civilized humans.

My stomach growled so loud it made a bird outside the window flutter away.

"Do not judge me," I said, grabbing a plate and whatever food was still warm.

Sausages. Toast. Egg. Still steaming. Bless.

I started shoveling like someone in a speed eating tournament. Grace was gone. Dignity was on hold.

Around me, the girls were watching.

Some with amusement.

Some with that too soft expression that meant trouble.

And then…

The bomb dropped.

Sera lounging in her seat like a sleepy queen, said in her gentle, droopy voice, "Thanks for the bun, Evan~ it was really sweet."

I froze mid-bite.

Chewed. Swallowed.

"Oh—yeah. You're welcome!"

Val added casually, "I wasn't expecting it… especially not from someone who values items more than emotions."

I raised an eyebrow. "I value both equally. Emotionally priced items are still items."

She smirked. "Still, thank you."

Next to her, Evelyn blushed and looked away as soon as I looked her way.

"I liked the heart doodle," she whispered into her mug.

My brain announced to me 'Danger. Cute detected. Do not engage. You will fall.'

Rivy suddenly said, "It was good."

I blinked. "Wow. That's high praise from you."

She looked away. "Shut up before I change my mind."

Gladia chimed in, "Yours was the only one with the sweet filling. I could taste the love, Evan."

"Pretty sure that was jam," I mumbled, but she winked anyway.

Lilith sat down beside me. Gently. Like she knew exactly what she was doing.

"I ate mine in bed," she said, dreamy and content. "It made me sleep even better."

I choked slightly on my eggs.

She smiled. "You're quite popular, you know."

I wiped my mouth with a napkin and said, "I'm just… a guy."

The table froze for a second.

Rivy snorted.

Val tried not to laugh but failed.

Evelyn covered her face with both hands.

Lilith sipped her coffee, smiling. "Oh, I know."

I swallowed the rest of my breakfast like I was trying to flee the moment with food.

By the time I pushed the plate away, I had exactly five minutes left.

"Okay, I gotta go."

I exploded out of the chair so fast the air pressure made a napkin fly off the table and grabbed Evelyn's hand.

"Run, little devil," Lilith teased.

I was already out the door.

Back into panic mode.

Sprinting again.
