Chapter 301 - Chapter 301

As per usual Eve was the one to fire the first shot, and fire she did. Her head laser carved a path through the building as she strafed it across her view, two of the cultists were immediately incinerated, one was cleaved in half, and a fourth was variously injured but not dead. Deccanus followed it up quickly, firing his cowboy repeater round after round as he dispatched two additional cultists. Rae was the next to begin to fire. Their effectiveness was less pronounced than the other two but they had effectively cut off an entire side of the building from being able to reinforce the front with serious suppressing fire.

Adam could not see Mira however he was sure she was out there, somewhere, doing her job, so Adam focused on his.

From the rooftop he could see several cultists running from the other side, trying to get to the front to engage with their enemy. However what drew his attention was instead a group of three cultists positioned on an opposite roof nearby. They had not yet noticed Adam yet and were instead focused on getting a shot on the crew below. Adam was not going to let them have that chance.

His first shot rang out through the air nailing one of the cultists in the head cleanly. Killing him instantly. Adam quickly ducked down behind the lip of a wall that surrounded the roof of the building, giving himself cover. There was no way they would be able to tell where he was right away, so he would instead force them to waste time searching for him.

After a good ten seconds or so he popped back out and took aim at the roof again. Once more the shot rang out. This time while it still hit a cultist in the head it was not as clean of a shot as the previous one was. Perhaps because the cultist was moving around. Regardless it clipped through the side of his head and when he saw brain matter come flying out he was sure it was good enough.

However Adam did not have time to celebrate, he could tell that the third cultist had spotted him now and was taking aim at him with a long rifle of his own.

There was a moment where Adam lined up the cultist's head in his scope and he could tell the cultist was doing the same. Then, they both fired.

A bullet whizzed past Adam's head. The bullet tore through a small portion of his cheek but nothing substantial, instead it was the immediate tinnitus that followed the bullet whizzing mere centimeters from a more grievous wound that hurt more.

However his opponent was not so lucky. As Adam maintained his composure and kept looking down the scope he could see the cultist's head flower open like a spring field in bloom. Red rose colored viscera and all.

Adam took a moment to release his held breath, resteel himself. He had almost been shot in the head after all, he deserved to have a moment to himself. But he did not allow this moment to carry on for long as he immediately swung his scope back down the battlefield below.

The scene before him had already advanced much further than he had expected. There were a number of dead cultists laying all over the sidewalk in front of the building and it seemed like the only ones still reinforcing were ones coming from inside.

Deccanus had taken cover behind the wreck of a car, Rae was standing in partial cover, shooting overtop the car, and Eve had, as expected, run into their midst and started tearing men limb from limb. It was a miracle she had not yet been shot.

Adam, for his sake, began to methodically pick off the cultists behind cover that he had a good vantage point on. The fight was so chaotic that the cultists hardly seemed to notice that there was a sniper in their midst.

At one point Adam brought his scope down on one woman, aimed his shot, and got ready to fire, however before he could he saw the woman get her throat slit and then collapse to the ground dying. There was nothing that slit her throat, no warning, no person. She just was alive one moment and then dead the next. It had to be Mira, there was no other explanation. At this distance the stealth mode of the stealth suit was so effective that she truly was completely invisible.

Regardless, more cultists began to pour out of the main building to join the fight and it seemed as though Eve might get overwhelmed. However then, as if to join Eve in her brazen melee scramble. Deccanus vaulted over the car he was using for cover, drew his machete and dove head first into the melee.

It was hard for Adam to pick out targets in the fight. Of course there were a ton more cultists than his friends in the melee but he was unable to ensure he would get a clean shot with all of the movement.

Then a flashbang went off in the center of the group. Deccanus and all the cultists currently fighting were momentarily blinded. Adam was too, partially, since he was looking in that direction, however he quickly swapped to his other eye and watched as Eve, completely unaffected by the flashbang, quickly tore through the remaining cultists with a fervor that could not be described in words.

Within moments the battle was over, Eve stood tall on top of the dead bodies of her slain foes, and Deccanus was desperately trying to see out of his still blinded eyes. For the moment, at least, it appeared as though they had killed all the cultists.
