While driving, Alia suddenly hit the brakes. Leaving behind the city's hustle and bustle and its blanket of neon lights, her car came to a halt on a deserted, dark stretch of road near Marine Drive, close to the sea. The moment she killed the engine, the inside of the car plunged into absolute, pin-drop silence.
And right at that instant, with the car window rolled down, a familiar and distinct sound drifted to her ears the deep, roaring rumble of the ocean waves crashing from afar. Together with the cold night breeze, the salty sea mist, and the sound of the pounding surf, the entire atmosphere suddenly took on a mysterious, tense, and heavy mood.
Viktor's call was still active on the screen. Noticing this unexpected background sound of ocean waves and Alia's abrupt stop, Viktor furrowed his brow slightly and asked in a curious tone:
"What's going on, janu? Why did you suddenly stop the car? And what is that sound I hear in the background... are you by the sea?"
Looking at the screen, Alia let a mysterious and cold smile play on her lips. The chilly breeze of the night ocean lashed against her open hair, and in the dim light of the car cabin, her eyes seemed to glow.
She answered in a soft yet solemn voice:
"Yes, Viktor... you guessed right. There's no need to go all the way for your surprise, because I've come straight to you. Take a look outside I'm standing right at the far end of Marine Drive."
Hearing those words, the smile vanished from Viktor's face in an instant. He quickly shifted his gaze away from the screen, trying to look past his driveway window or turning his phone slightly to peer out at the dark road outside. Alia's sudden, unannounced appearance and the sight of her standing amidst the roaring, surging ocean sent a strange, chilling shudder running down his spine.
Stepping out of the car, Alia walked up to the door of Viktor's house. Before she could even ring the bell, the door swung open from the inside. The lingering traces of unexpected surprise and a hint of hesitation were still visible in Viktor's eyes.
Yet, the moment the door opened, without a single word, Alia suddenly pulled him in and wrapped her arms tightly around him in a fierce embrace. Caught off guard by her chillingly intoxicating scent and this sudden, overwhelming sense of possession, Viktor froze for a split second. Without wasting a single heartbeat, Alia fixed her gaze into his eyes and pressed a deep, intense, and possessive kiss straight to his lips.
The sheer, reckless passion of Alia's touch instantly melted away any hesitation left in Viktor. The dormant desires and excitement burning within him flared up like wildfire. Unable to hold back any longer, he pulled Alia even tighter into his arms, surrendering completely to the moment and eagerly returning the kiss with a surge of raw emotion.
Pulling back slightly from the kiss, Alia flashed a mysterious smile. Viktor hadn't fully shaken off the daze and intoxication of that deep kiss yet; his eyes were slightly flushed, and his chest rose and fell heavily.
Without saying a word, he took Alia by the hand and pulled her inside the house. Passing through the living room, they walked straight into his private bedroom. Closing the bedroom door behind them, Viktor gently turned Alia toward the bed, looked into her eyes with a mischievous smile, and said:
"Now it's time for the real surprise, janu..."
With that, he walked over toward the corner of the room, heading straight for the lighting switch and a special surprise hidden beneath a large cloth covering a table.
Viktor yanked the heavy cloth off the table with a single swift pull. Beneath the soft lighting gleamed a custom display box encased in premium glass, inside of which an exquisite art piece shone under a silvery glow an exclusive collectible figurine designed around their shared theme, its intricate craftsmanship making it instantly clear that an immense amount of time and money had been poured into it.
Standing beside the table, Alia glanced at the surprise for a fleeting moment. A trace of mild astonishment flickered in her eyes, but the very next second, her expression hardened back into its usual cold, unreadable mask.
Beaming with pride and excitement, Viktor looked at Alia and said:
"How do you like it, janu? Completely unique and striking, just like you! It took me nearly a full month to get this made."l
Taking a step forward, Alia moved right up to the edge of the table. She reached out and lightly brushed her fingers against the glass of the display box, then looked straight into Viktor's eyes, speaking in a voice that was eerily calm and sweet:
"It's beautiful, Viktor... truly remarkable. I will remember this gift of yours forever."
However, Viktor remained completely oblivious to the freezing, ominous undertone hidden beneath Alia's sweet words. Drunk on her praise, he reached out to pull her closer into his arms and right at that exact moment, with lightning-fast speed, Alia's hand snapped out to grab a heavy metal paperweight resting on the table.
As Alia froze, caught in her momentary shock, Viktor pulled a small, velvet-blue box from his pocket. Gently taking the heavy paperweight from her hand and setting it aside, he looked into her eyes and spoke in a tender, affectionate tone:
"Not that one, janu... this is the real surprise."
Viktor opened the box. Inside lay a stunning, antique-style silver locket, exquisitely engraved with their intertwined initials. The craftsmanship made it instantly clear just how much care had gone into making it.
Staring at Viktor's soft, unexpected gesture, Alia froze for a beat. The hostility that had gripped her moments before completely melted away under the warmth of his touch. A genuine look of breathtaking surprise crossed her face, entirely stripping away her usual cold facade. Catching her off guard, Viktor smiled softly, leaned in, and gently fastened the locket around her neck.
Wearing the silver locket gifted by Viktor, a strange, satisfied smile played on Alia's lips. Wrapped in the guise of love, that cold and mysterious smile lingered as three more days slipped by. Those three days felt like a different kind of time flowing through their world isolated from the outside world, they spent the time entirely on their own terms.
Meanwhile, one afternoon, five young peoplefour young men and one woman arrived at Alia's flat. Some of them were her long-time acquaintances, while others were trusted associates in her secret operations. Traces of exhaustion were clearly visible on their faces, as they had traveled a long way from afar to reach Alia.
The moment she opened the door, Alia welcomed them inside and seated them. Without wasting a single moment, she personally arranged plates of hot food and drinks in front of them. Sitting around the table, they heartily partook in the meal. Between bites, they whispered among themselves, discussing crucial details regarding upcoming secret plans, work updates, and their next steps. Alia listened to everything with extreme composure and a cool head, providing necessary instructions and advice.
Once the meal was over and all confidential discussions and plans were finalized, the five young men and women prepared to take their leave from Alia. They stepped forward one by one, bowing their heads with a mix of deep respect and lingering fear. Looking at them with a sharp and mysterious gaze, Alia smiled faintly, waved her hand to signal a safe departure, and silently bade them farewell.
