Cherreads

Chapter 39 - Chapter 039: Violet Gambling Den

The nameless princess wasted no time in abruptly leaping into the air with her still firmly holding hands with him against his own will. Of course she didn't care about his screams as they flew through the fall yet what comes up must go down. Falling back down to the streets was even scarier as he was quite certain that there was no way he'd survive such a fall by himself.

Sadly his suffering didn't end with him becoming a pancake as she braced from the fall, entering a squat, only to spring back up and fly through the air. Repeating that over and over again as they eventually found themselves facing one of the gigantic stone walls that separated the districts. His screams exploded out in even greater intensity which she promptly ignored as she bounded up atop the parapet.

One last leap they ended up being so far into the air that they actually breached the cloud layer; finding himself shivering as his entire outfit quickly became drenched as the water condescend upon him.

What comes up must come down, however.

He may have screamed but at this point it just felt like gargling nails so all he could do was cough and sputter in pain at his attempts. Fortunately having his eyes closed made falling to his death a far more pleasant experience. Even if he only felt like death when they landed in front of their destination.

A simple innocuous wooden building with a crimson cloth entrance with an unusual symbol upon it; the simplified violet flower in the matching shade of purple.

Not that he could pay much attention to all of that when he was soaked to the bone in ice cold water.

With how busy the building in front of them was - people were beginning to pile up both behind and in front of them as they stood at the entrance. Giving him strange looks. Though nobody was brave enough to give those same looks to the Nameless Princess of Questions as just about everyone recognised her.

Plus she managed to become completely dry by merely pushing her energy out from her body. Not simply pushing the water aside but instantly evaporating it into plasma.

Not steam, plasma.

PLASMA.

Being that close at least meant that Reolf was now dry.

She either did not care about the building crowd on either side of her as she simply began to walk with the crowd in front of her. That ruffled feathers nevertheless none of them were brave enough to turn their glares on the walking trash compactor. As such they all turned their glares onto her companion.

Reolf.

At this point he couldn't even find himself caring about those stares after the sheer terror he had just been forced to endure. It also wasn't as if he could say anything about it. His vocal cords were well and truly shot at this point in time.

As such he decided to look around where he found what could only be called a gambling den with many low tables surrounded in cushions. Upon which dealers & gamblers all took part in many different types of games according to what the house decided. Since nobody was going to complain even if they did lose.

Even the interior was mostly wooden except the energy efficient lighting above.

He didn't get much of a chance to take it all in as she dragged him past all the tables and towards those gigantic fabric curtains that proudly displayed that same violet logo. Her pace was not interrupted by anything as she pushed them aside. Stepping inside him at which point… All the sound from the gambling floor had completely vanished.

In front of them was three rather distinct figures as Reolf could only lament his fate at both executives also being present.

At that thought the well dressed figure looked up from the book they were reading; moving a hand to adjust their glasses as they simply offered a smile. Meanwhile the obviously nefarious mage looked up from piles of paperwork with a frown. Narrowing his eyes at them both.

"What are you doing bringing trash in? Are you a cat or something?"

"I would love to see how Cheshire and Munzumira react to that."

That caused the archdemon's brow to grumble with a twitching face. Revealing that the demon certainly didn't like the idea of those "two" "people" knowing about what he had just said - clearly not as uncaring about it as he seemed. Especially with how his hands subtly shook as he rifled through the documents in a far more disorganised manner than before.

Then there was her… The master of the Yakuza.

Who was watching kids television?

"Vihihi~ good Socks, assert dominance, prove your strength!"

Happily clapping her hands while paying literally no attention to the brewing drama between her subordinates occuring right behind her; far too focused on the screen. Rolf had to admit she was inherently a terrifying woman even with her current… Activities. Even just sitting upon a seating pillow she had an unquestionable aura of confidence that carried a certain weight.

Not to mention the abyssal black markings across her face. Especially those along the side of her mouth that made it seem like her cheeks were cracked open, making it hard to appreciate her apparent beauty under the eerie theming, along with those piercing eyes. Even her slender fingers were made more menacing with them being dyed pure black with eerie crimson nails.

The other hand's fingers may have kept their snow-like tone intact yet the back of the palm and her nails still helped from her looking delicate.

Not to mention the flaming marking across both arms was quite intimidating.

Of course he was already well aware of her unique look as she did not exactly stay very incognito like one may have expected for a career criminal. Literally making appearances on television. That was the benefit that power like hers naturally grants; even still it was far different to be standing in front of her in person.

No screen could fully capture the sheer presence she naturally possessed; especially as she hadn't bothered to hide her crown of demonic horns or her grander oni pair. Those horns made sure nobody mistook her for anything but a demon. A race that they had believed to simply be the thing of myths until she had shown up.

Although some people originally thought she may have been a dragon in humanoid form… Fortunately she did not possess nearly the same hatred as some did for dragons. Having quite a few dragons under her service certainly softened her opinion on them.

Despite all that she was still, unquestionable, watching a child's television show with a strange level of innocence as she was perhaps learning the wrong lessons.

"Grrr fight back and assert your power as the most special!"

Bearing her honestly terrifying fangs at the kind of anthropomorphised (very stylised) dogs who were clearly growing fed up with the younger dogs' antics. It honestly left Reolf quite unsure of what to do as he just stood there watching everything happen. Part of him wondered if they'd notice him running away.

Just as he thought that, much to his existential horror, the crimson haired demoness' head whipped backwards with those crimson slips eyeing him up. Eyelids narrowing into a glare as she silently studied him with her head slowly falling to one side. Sweat poured out of every pore as he stood ramrod straight while regretting ever thinking something so stupid without considering she'd be able to read his mind!

It seemed that the nameless princess also notice the stare of the demoness. Turning their head away from the squabbling archdemons in favour of studying their leader. As strange as her hobbies may have been to some people; there was no doubt she was the one who held all the cards.

Just as his heart felt as if it was about to finally burst out his chest… She turned her head way, completely ignoring his existence, in favour of turning to her archdemon supporters with an innocent head tilt.

"Should record this show for Nameless to enjoy; she would like it!"

Nodding her head with confidence.

Reolf could only turn to look at the nameless princess while wondering why her leader would be talking about someone who was right there like that. There was no way the Yakuza leader knew someone else who just so happened to have no name. It was not every day you ran into someone like that!

Yet none of the other people in the room took issue with her statement nor her hobby - the ikeman warlock did momentarily pause his rifling through. Faintly frowning at the demoness. Finally the wolf-kin believed someone had finally begun to question why she was being so weird.

Only to be majorly disappointed as that arrogant boy began to speak; everyone could practically see a tail happily wagging behind him as he fawned on the crimson haired demonic oni.

"As if she is worth your attentive grace, my Absolute Monarch. It simply is beneath you - as you are clearly the strongest of archons - to actually cater to her like that. Not to mention I doubt a sociopath like that scaless nameless bitch could understand the same complexities that your absolute mind could"

"More glazing than on a honey roasted ham…"

That caused everyone in the room to stop what they were doing to turn towards him. It was only at that point when he realised he had actually said the very very quiet part out loud for everyone to hear. To say the fear of god was in him was an understatement.

At leasts gods were supposedly known for their mercy; at the very least the god of the beast-kin was very merciful to even humans who did not deserve it.

All of a sudden a bell-like laughter cut through the unnerving silence as the demoness reared her head back to laugh. Her laugh was surprisingly beautiful, almost serene in nature, as Reolf found a blush slowly forming across his cheeks. Who else could say they made their idol laugh like that?

His horrible day quickly turned around as she snapped her head down to lift a hand up; outstretching a single finger to point towards him while displaying her infamous toothy grin.

"I like him, let's keep him, so why are you back already princess?"

He wasn't crying in relief.

Everyone else was merely blurry.
