Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: A New Life With New Beginnings

✨🌱 — The Awakening

Consciousness drifted back slowly, like rising from a deep, heavy sleep. The first thing she registered was the strange, unfamiliar weight of a smaller, lighter body.

Limbs thin and fragile. Skin soft and youthful.

She blinked open her eyes, staring up at a ceiling she had never seen before.Memories flooded in—fast, sharp, vivid, and overwhelming. They belonged to a twenty-six-year-old office worker named Yoo Jaehyun, rushing toward her brother's wedding, the screech of tires, the blinding flash of impact... and then nothing.

Until now.

"There's tears in my eyes... I better wipe them off!"

She raised small, trembling hands to her face, dabbing gently at the wetness on her cheeks. Confusion warred with sharp curiosity. How had she ended up here? In a child's form, in a world that felt entirely foreign?

"My name was Yoo Jaehyun. Twenty-six years old. I was an office worker in my past life. I died in a car accident while heading to my brother's wedding... I never imagined I would be reincarnated into another world. First, I need to remember who I am now."

Her mind raced, sifting through fragments and echoes until slowly—like mist clearing beneath the morning sun—the answers settled into place.

Her name now was Lena Dunham.

She belonged to a noble family, though their story was far from the usual tales of high society. Her father, a gentleman of standing, had met her mother by chance one fateful night—when the man found her, surrounded by thugs

He saved her but got a fatal wound and lost consciousness, then-commoner had saved his life and nursed him back from the brink of death. Against the sharp disapproval of the court and other nobles, they had fallen in love, married, and eventually welcomed Lena and her siblings into their home.

The sun was dipping low now, painting the sky in warm hues of amber and rose.

"I better get home. My new family must be worried sick by now."

She stood, brushed grass and dust from her simple dress, and began walking along the winding path toward the family estate. The countryside stretched wide around her—rolling green hills, swaying fields, and trees rustling softly in the breeze. Birds chirped in the distance, and for a moment, despite the shock of everything that had happened, a quiet sense of peace settled in her chest.

As she neared the manor, a figure hurried toward her—quick, yet careful, her face tight with worry, moving as fast as her pregnant belly would allow.

"LENA!!"

Before Lena could speak, she was pulled into a tight, trembling embrace.

"There you are! We were beside ourselves with worry! Where on earth have you been?!"

"Mother?"

Amelia pulled back, hands resting firmly on her hips, her expression shifting from overwhelming relief to gentle scolding.

"I can't believe you wandered off alone without telling anyone! Do you have any idea how scared we were when we realized you weren't home? And look—the sun is already setting! You know you aren't supposed to be outside after dusk."

"I'm sorry... I was just gazing at the sky, and... I must have fallen asleep."

The tension in Amelia's shoulders softened slightly.

"You... fell asleep?"

She sighed, raking a hand through her dark hair.

"Honestly, you gave us quite a scare. You can't just disappear like that without letting someone know where you are."

A deeper, warmer voice interrupted them, calm and reassuring. Lena looked up to see her father approaching, with two older children trailing close behind him.

"Now, now, Amelia—no need to be so stern."

Amelia turned toward him, her frustration flaring again. "You try staying calm when your child vanishes without a trace!"

James stepped closer, his tone softening as he gestured gently toward her stomach. "And please, do not run—not while you are still carrying our baby."

Amelia took a deep breath, her anger melting away into weariness. "I know, I know... I just couldn't help it."

She turned back to Lena, her voice firm once more. "Don't do this again, do you hear? Or I will send an escort to follow your every step."

Lena stared at the ground, guilt and embarrassment swirling in her chest. "I'm sorry..."

Amelia Dunham was a woman of contrasts—strict but kind, sharp-eyed but warm-hearted. She loved fiercely, and her concern today came from a place of deep fear; being pregnant only heightened her need to protect every member of her family.

James Dunham placed a gentle hand on Lena's shoulder and smiled down at her. "It's getting late. Let us head back before the light fades completely."

Lena nodded obediently. "Yes, Father."

She fell into step beside her older sister and brother as they walked toward the manor. James walked tall and confident, with neat brown hair and pink eyes that held a quiet, natural authority—though to his family, he was nothing but a devoted husband and father. As a landlord and merchant, he traveled often for business, but always returned with gifts and stories to share with his children.

Louise—full name Louisette—turned to her with a scolding tone, though her eyes betrayed nothing but concern. "Geez, Lena, you really need to be more careful! Mother was so stressed she was nearly beside herself. You have no idea the panic we felt when we couldn't find you anywhere."

Lena shifted uncomfortably. "Sorry..."

Louise shared their father's brown hair and their mother's sharp, observant gaze. Diligent and hardworking, she spent most of her time studying or practicing the piano—a passion James supported by hiring a skilled private tutor. She might be strict, but her affection for Lena was never in doubt.

Then her older brother Thomas chimed in, his tone lighter but serious. "She's right, you know. You're lucky we found you napping out here. What if someone with bad intentions had seen you? You could have been taken! You have to be more careful, little sis."

Two years older than Lena, Thomas favored their mother in appearance. Unlike their father's commanding presence or Louise's strict discipline, he was calm and thoughtful, already showing a keen interest in politics and leadership well beyond his years.

Lena sighed and raised her hands in surrender. "Okay, okay—I won't do it again. I promise."

Thomas nodded, satisfied. "Good. Remember—next time you feel like wandering off, at least tell someone where you're going."

A familiar insecurity crept back into Lena's mind, and her smile faded. "Taken? Why would anyone kidnap a magic-less girl like me? I can't even cast a single spell."

She had heard the whispers from other noble families, the mocking remarks about their household—and especially about her own inability to wield magic. No matter how much her parents reassured her, those words still stung like thorns.

Amelia knelt down so she was eye level with Lena, her expression fierce and protective. "Don't listen to them! Their words are only meant to hurt and belittle us."

James knelt beside her, placing a hand gently on the top of her head. "Exactly. Your worth is never determined by whether you can use magic or not. And do not worry—if you wish it, I will teach you martial arts myself, so you can defend yourself against anyone who dares look down on you."

True to his word, James made time in his busy schedule to begin Lena's lessons. He also hired tutors to ensure she kept pace with her studies, even though Lena sometimes felt her lack of magic set her apart from others.

To escape those heavy thoughts, she often wandered outside—and it was during one such walk that the full memories of her past life finally surfaced.

Louise walked beside her now, her voice soft but steady. "You are still a noble, Lena—and you are far from useless. Don't let their jeers get under your skin. They are only resentful because Mother was born a commoner before marrying Father."

Lena nodded slowly. "You're right."

Thomas turned to Louise, changing the subject to something brighter. "Speaking of the future—aren't you planning to attend the Royal Academy in five years?"

Louise's face lit up with excitement and determination. "Yes, I've been preparing for years. The curriculum is rigorous, and the expectations are high, but I am ready."

Thomas raised an eyebrow playfully. "Just practicing the piano all day, then?"

Louise laughed softly, the sound warm and amused. "Not just that! The academy teaches far more than music—history, magic theory, statecraft, combat, and even how to explore and clear dungeons. There is so much to learn there."

Thomas nodded, conceding the point. "Fair enough. Sounds like you'll be kept very busy."

🏰✨: Reincarnated in a New World

Soon, the manor came into view. Once inside, the siblings parted ways—Louise to her room to rest and practice, Thomas to his quarters after a long day.

Lena walked to her own room, her mind still turning over everything that had happened. She lay back on her bed, staring up at the ceiling.

"The Royal Academy... they teach magic, martial arts, even dungeon exploration. There is so much to learn there..."

A heavy sigh escaped her. She thought of her brother from her past life, and a quiet ache settled in her chest. "I wonder how Jaekyun is doing back home... I wish he were here to experience all this with me."

A soft knock pulled her from her thoughts.

"Lady Lena? Dinner is ready—everyone is waiting for you."

Lena sat up quickly, pushing aside her longing. "I'll be right there."

She stood and opened the door. "Lead the way."

Waiting outside was Sophie, the household's head maid. A hardworking and loyal woman, she had fallen into hardship after her late husband's gambling debts left her penniless and desperate. James and Amelia had found her collapsed by the roadside, nursed her back to health, and given her a position within the estate. Even after her debts were settled, Sophie chose to stay—out of deep gratitude and unwavering loyalty to the family that had saved her.

As they entered the dining room, the rich aroma of home-cooked meals filled the air. James looked up with a warm smile.

"Hello, Lena. Thank you, Sophie, for bringing her here."

Sophie bowed modestly. "It is my duty, my lord." She excused herself quietly, leaving the family to gather around the table.

Amelia and Louise waved for Lena to sit. "Come, sit down—eat while the food is still warm."

Thomas gestured to the empty chair beside him. "Hurry up, or we'll start without you!"

Lena quickly took her seat, her stomach growling softly as she looked over the generous spread.Conversation flowed easily at first, until Amelia turned to James, curiosity in her voice. "Darling, how did your business meeting go today? Did the king receive our offerings well?"

James paused, his expression turning serious. "Actually... I met with representatives from the Dran family."

"THE DRAN FAMILY?!"

Louise and Thomas exclaimed in unison. Lena froze, her fork hovering mid-air. The name felt strangely familiar—though she could not place why.

"The Drans? Why would they seek a contract with us?" Amelia asked, leaning forward in surprise."I was just as taken aback,"

James replied. "They have expressed interest in carrying our products. In exchange, they will help expand our sales across the kingdom and supply us with higher-quality raw materials to make more medicine."

The Dunham family's trade was built on remedies and health products—James handled the commerce and trade routes, while Amelia used her knowledge and skill to craft their treatments and beauty preparations.

Louise's eyes widened. "Father, that is incredible news!"

Thomas leaned in eagerly. "What did you say? How did you respond?"

James smiled. "I was pleasantly surprised. I asked them directly why they wanted our goods specifically, and they explained that our medicines are far more potent and consistent than any others on the market. They gave me time to think it over before signing anything."

Lena spoke up, her curiosity growing stronger. "Father—can you tell me more about the Dran family?"

James blinked, clearly surprised by the question. "I suppose we have not spoken much about them, have we?" He glanced briefly at Amelia, wondering what had prompted this sudden interest. "Strange... she is usually so quiet during meals."

He explained carefully, his tone measured and respectful: "The Drans hold far higher standing and influence than our own family. The current Duke Dran and the Emperor have been close friends since their days at the Royal Academy—they fought side by side in many wars and helped build much of this kingdom's prosperity. Their bond is so strong they swore an oath that their children would be bound together, either as sworn siblings or through marriage. In fact, the Duke's second son is already engaged to the Crown Princess herself."

😱💭: Reincarnation Realization

Louise and Thomas listened in awe, impressed by the weight of such a powerful alliance. Lena's heart began to beat faster, a strange sense of foreboding rising in her chest.

"And what are their names?" she asked, her voice growing tight.

James thought for a moment. "Ah, yes—Edmund Dran and Princess Rosalie Avila Beltran."Lena's fork clattered loudly onto her plate.

"W-WHAT?!"

She slammed her hands lightly onto the table, her face turning pale as snow. Everyone turned to her in sudden shock.

"Lena?" James leaned forward, concern clear in his eyes.

"Edmund Dran and Rosalie Avila Beltran..." she whispered, her mind reeling.

Amelia stood gently, placing a hand on her shoulder. "Lena, take a deep breath and sit back down."

Lena sank slowly into her chair, her thoughts spinning wildly. "No way... those two are characters from the RPG game I used to play with my brother in my past life!"

James studied her closely. "Are you quite alright? You look unwell. Do you know who they are?"

Lena forced a shaky smile, trying to calm her racing heart. "I am fine—just surprised by how important this engagement is to the kingdom."

James accepted her answer, though Amelia and Louise both noticed her trembling hands and distant expression.

Later that night, after dinner had ended and everyone had retired to their rooms, Lena lay awake, staring at the moonlight filtering through the curtains.

"Is it true? Did I really reincarnate into the world of that game?"

She turned over, recalling every detail she could remember: Edmund Dran—the cool, ambitious antagonist who wielded forbidden dark magic. And Rosalie Beltran—the kingdom's beloved princess, the heroine, and one of the main love interests of the game's protagonist.

📜💫:Secrets and Surprises

Then a sudden thought struck her. She threw off the covers and hurried straight to James's study.

James looked up from his paperwork, startled. "Lena? What are you doing here at this hour? And do not slam the door—you might damage it!"

Lena ignored the scolding, breathless and urgent. "I am sorry, Father... I just need to ask—how old is Edmund Dran?"

James blinked, thoroughly confused. "Why do you ask about him all of a sudden?" He answered anyway. "He is around your age. Why does it matter?"

"Just curious!" Lena waved her hand and backed quickly toward the door. "Good night, Father—please do not let me interrupt your work!"

Before he could question further, she was gone. James shook his head, smiling faintly. "Girls really are a mystery, no matter the family."

Back in her room, Lena threw herself onto the bed, her mind racing again."So it is true... I will be attending the Royal Academy in nine years—right when the game's main story officially begins!"

She froze for a moment, then let out a long breath of relief. "But there is no character named Lena Dunham in the game. That means I am just a background NPC! If I stay out of the way, avoid the main plot, and keep to myself, I will be perfectly safe."

Relief washed over her. She hurried to her desk, pulled open a drawer, and took out a blank notebook and pen.

"To make sure I do not accidentally interfere or alter events, I will write down everything I remember about the story. And since I will write it all in Korean, no one else here will be able to read or understand a single word."

She scribbled furiously through the night—recording key events, major characters, and turning points, so she would always know where danger or conflict would arise.

When the last line was written, exhaustion finally caught up. The adrenaline that had kept her going faded, leaving her heavy-eyed and weary.

"What a long, overwhelming day... I hope nothing happens that would disrupt the story or draw attention to me."

She set the notebook aside, slid under the warm covers, and let out a long breath. Slowly, her eyes drifted shut, and sleep finally came.

But as she dreamed, the threads of fate were already shifting—weaving in ways she could never predict. Her simple wish to remain a quiet, unnoticed background character was already being tested. The peaceful life she hoped for might prove far harder to protect than she imagined.
